10 Accident
Part 10 Accident
Arnav banged on a tree intentionally. Yes, intentionally! He was skilled in driving. He knew how to stop the car without getting hurt after banging into the tree. Yet, he gave himself a cut on his forehead because he didn't want Nandhini to doubt him. He stayed leaning his head on the steering wheel, as if he was unconscious. People surrounded his car and started murmuring, but none of them touched him.
That was when the police man who crossed the path stopped his bike and came to the crowd.
"What happened?"
"Accident, sir," someone said.
Opening the car door, the policeman checked Arnav. He flinched as Arnav was stinking.
"Drunk and drive..." The policeman said.
He saw Arnav's phone in his shirt pocket. Removing it, he checked the emergency number and found DAD in that. Immediately dialled the number. Arvind, who was serving tea for Nandhini's men, attended to it.
"Chotte, how are you?" He asked and heard,
"Are you this man's father?" In return.
"Who is that? How did you get my son's phone?" Arvind asked, frowning.
Nandhini's men looked at him with confusion and then spared a glance within.
"Your son's car met with an accident..."
"Whaaaat? Accident? When? Where? How?" He shouted in shock.
One of Nandhini's men snatched the phone and turned the speaker on.
"Just now. His car banged into a tree. I'm Sub Inspector Rahul. This is a drunk and drive case. Your Son is unconscious. Could you come to the police station?"
"Yes, sir, I'm coming..." Arvind disconnected the call and rushed inside to get changed.
He came out, looked at Nandhini's men, and said,
"Let's go..."
They looked at each other.
"What are you waiting for? Didn't you hear what the SI said? My son met with an accident. Are you guys coming with me, or shall I go alone?"
"You are going to the police station. How will we come with you?" One of them asked.
"Ok, I'm going..."
"Wait..." The head of the gang, Keshav, said.
He looked at someone and said,
"Gagan will come with you. He is new to this place. So, the police will not identify him."
"Maybe... But I will not enter the police station because we should not underestimate the police." Gagan said, and the head nodded in agreement.
"So what if the police identify him? Will not your Nandhini madam handle it?" Arvind asked wearily.
They didn't answer. But Arvind knew the answer. Nandini would not want her dark activities to come to light. After all, she was a reputation freak. He didn't know what she would do knowing Arnav's drunk-driving scenario. He sighed and walked towards his car, followed by Gagan. They headed to the police station.
Arvind dialled his lawyer and asked him to come to the police station.
The police station
Gagan didn't go inside the police station and stayed in the car. Arvind rushed inside. A constable was waiting for him.
"Sir is waiting for you. Please, go to his room," the constable directed him to the SI's room.
Arvind came there and saw Arnav sitting in front of the SI. He smiled at Arvind. He reciprocated to him.
"How are you, uncle?" The SI asked.
"I don't know if I can say I'm fine." He said, feeling helpless.
"Everything will be alright, uncle."
"I too want the same, but I don't know how it will happen. Arnav's condition is not even letting me sleep peacefully." He said and sat next to him.
"Arnav said, You got transferred to our area. I'm glad about it, Rahul..."
"I, too, wanted to meet you, but didn't expect it would happen this way."
"Did you bring it, Dad?" Arnav asked.
Arvind nodded and gave IT to him.
"Are you sure about what you are doing, Chotte?"
"I'm damn sure about what I'm doing, Dad."
"How do you think the girl will be in your favour? What if she is loyal to Nandhini?"
"Dad, I will get her on track. You don't worry about it."
"Chotte, don't forget, Nandhini brought her to you. We don't know what terms and conditions Nandhini applied to her."
"I will take care of her."
"I don't know how you are so confident about the girl."
Arnav was stuck. He too didn't know how he was so confident about Khushi. He just met her the previous day. Even though he found her innocent, he didn't know how he could trust that he could get her on the track.
He was so confident about one thing that any girl would become passive toward her husband, no matter what! Didn't she ask him to fill her partition? Even though Khushi didn't want to snatch Nandhini's position, at the corner of her heart, she would start believing him as her husband if they took their relationship to the next level.
In addition, he seeded a fear in her mind about Nandhini that she would even kill anyone. Khushi, like an innocent girl, would not dare to get close to a woman like Nandhini. And, he was there to water her FEAR about Nandhini in the upcoming days. So Khushi would need someone to get firm. Who else other than him would be the one? So Khushi would not have a choice other than to be true to him. Arnav supposed.
More than anything, he liked Khushi. So, he was ready to mend things between them because he wanted her in his life. He thought she would be the BEST.
"Uncle, however, Arnav should do something, going against Nandhini. He could not ruin his life like this... He doesn't have to...! However, he could not do that outside her premises because you are in her custody. She is watching you. A man is waiting outside the police station. Do you think I can't arrest him right away? He will say, 'I don't know who Nandhini is.' And, we can't say Nandhini's other men don't follow you. We should not do anything in haste, uncle." Rahul said.
Arvind sighed and said,
"Be careful, Chotte. Don't trust the girl completely."
"Ok, Dad. I will be careful..."
"Doesn't the wound need to be bandaged?" Arvind asked, pointing at Arnav's forehead wound.
"No, Dad, let it be..." He said, wiping the blood from the wound.
That was when Arvind got a call from Nandhini. He gave his phone to Arvind. He attended the call.
"Hello..."
"Where is Arnav? What happened to him?"
"Your men should have told you what happened to him."
"Send him with my lawyer." She disconnected the call.
Arvind sighed.
"Nandhini's lawyer is coming to take you home..." Arvind said.
"She doesn't want to face you because she knows I will do some atrocity in my drunken state", Arnav said.
Arvind nodded.
"Where is your lawyer?" Arnav asked.
"He will be here anytime."
They saw Arvind's lawyer rushing inside. Nandhini's man saw him. Within a few minutes, Arvind and his lawyer brought Arnav outside.
Aman waited there with NK. They made Arnav lie in the back seat. Aman got inside, and NK drove the car.
Arnav mumbled... Correction, scolded Nandhini all the way.
"Poor him, how gentle he was! The woman ruined him." NK said, and Aman was silent.
When they reached Nandhini's place, she didn't come out but watched them from her room. Aman and NK brought Arnav to his room and made him lie in the bed. They left the room, closing it. Arnav sat on the bed, sighing. He was weary of his life. He didn't know how long he would be like that.
Evening
Khushi woke up from her sleep. She stretched her hands and looked at Durga, who was gazing at her. Khushi became alert.
"Sss..." She hissed as if her body ached.
She stood up and asked Druga in sign language about the washroom. Durga pointed at the washroom. She nodded and went with her clothes.
Khushi came out, taking a bath.
Durga gestured for her to meet Nandhini and brought her to Nandhini's room. Nandhini smiled at her.
"How are you?" Nandhini asked.
"My lower body is still aching..." She said, bringing the pain in her voice.
"Don't worry. You will be free tonight" Nandhini was so confident that Arnav would not think of intimacy as he met with an accident.
"Yes, he met with an accident..." Nandhini said, observing her expression.
Khushi struggled to hide her shock. Accident? Was he all right? Why did Nandhini say 'she will be free TONIGHT?' Wasn't he hurt severely? Would he be all right tomorrow? She felt relief.
"Did you eat anything?" Nandhini asked.
Khushi nodded no.
"Go and eat something first," Nandhini said lovingly.
Khushi could not believe she was the same woman who had been ready to break her husband's leg, but her next stance confirmed something to Khushi.
"After having dinner, come to my room and clean it."
Didn't Arnav say Nandhini would make her feel like she was a MAID!
Khushi nodded and went to have dinner.
She returned to Nandhini's room after dinner. She started cleaning the window with a wet cloth.
That was when she jerked, hearing,
"Where is the girl?" Arnav shouted.
She looked at Nandhini, who was also looking at her, with an expression of embarrassment on her face. Khushi composed herself and said,
"You said I would be free tonight? Should I go to his room today also?" She asked fearfully.
"Hey, Nandhini..." Arnav again shouted.
"Oh god, he is coming," Khushi looked around and rushed behind the bed. She sat there hiding.
Arnav entered the room exactly at the same time. He saw her doing that. Yet, he didn't react. He went to Nandhini and asked,
"Where is the chick?"
Nandhini stood silently. He clutched her jaw.
"Where the hell is she?"
"She is hurt... So is you... Take a rest today."
"Shut your damn mouth and send her to me... Or else, you come..." He dragged her.
Nandhini shrugged his hand and gestured for him to look at Khushi.
"Whaaat?" He asked as if he didn't understand.
"She is there..." Nandhini said with no choice.
Arnav went to Khushi and saw her sitting. She looked at his wound, which was fresh. Arnav winked at her smilingly. Then, he held her upper hand and lifted her. Of course, pretended to...
"Why are you hiding from me? Didn't you get money to sleep with me? come..." He pulled her, swaying.
Khushi looked at Nandhini miserably.
Arnav walked, pulling her with him.
"Didi... Didi... Please help me..." Khushi pleaded with Nandhini, who stood looking at her blankly.
Arnav locked the door and said,
"I'm sorry for talking rudely..."
"Didi said you met with an accident. Are you all right?" She asked, looking at his wound worriedly.
Arnav smiled, feeling delighted.
To be continued...
