Part 17 Jealous

It was 10 pm. Aman switched the lights off. He waited, sitting on the couch. He took the bag that he had already packed. He came to the backyard and looked at his surroundings cautiously. He made sure that he wasn't noticed. He jumped over the compound wall and walked to the main road. He stopped an auto and got in it.

After a thirty-minute ride, he got down from the auto and again walked. He knocked on a house door. NK opened the door and frowned.

"Who are you?" NK asked.

"NK..."

NK was shocked hearing Aman's voice.

"Aman sir... you?"

"Yes,"

"Please come in..."

Arman entered. NK closed the door and looked at Aman weirdly.

"Why are you in disguise?"

Aman removed the fake beard and sat on the couch.

"What happened, sir?"

"Nandhini wants me to watch Arnav. He is going to attend an alumni function at his school tomorrow. I'm going to go there in disguise. I don't want anyone to know that. That's why I came here. If anyone follows me, they would get to know I'm in disguise. Even Arnav could do that. Then, he would become alert. Then, everything would be spoiled. I don't want him to know that."

"What could he do, sir? Nandhini took his father under her custody. He is on house arrest. What will he do, sir? Let him be happy with his friends in the alumni function at least." NK said wearily.

"Shall I stay here tonight?" Aman asked.

"You can stay here as long as you want..."

"Thanks..."

"Did you eat anything, sir?"

"Yeah, I did... I just want to sleep peacefully."

"Come, sir..." NK took Aman to his room and gave him his bed.

The next day

It was Arnav's school alumni function. Arnav was eager to meet his friends. Khushi saw Arnav getting ready.

"Are you going somewhere?" Khushi asked.

"Yes, it's my school alumni function..."

"Means?"

"I'm going to meet my school friends today..."

"Oh..." Khushi bit her nail nervously.

"Oiii... what happened?"

"Will SHE come?" she asked hesitatingly.

"Who?" he frowned.

"The one who loved you?"

Arnav rolled his eyes, keeping his hands on his hips.

"She didn't study in my school but in my college..."

"Oh... means, she won't come?"

He nodded no.

"Will you be late?"

"I don't know, Khushi... maybe, yes. I'm going to meet all my school friends today. It will surely take time."

"Will all your friends come?"

"Maximum number of friends will come..."

"What will you do there?"

"Will talk about our school memories... a few games may be conducted..." he said, tucking his shirt.

"Will they provide you lunch?"

"Yes... we will eat together..."

"Won't your college friends meet?"

"Oh, yes..." he took his tie and put it around his neck.

"Really? When did your last meet?"

"Did you meet the girl?"

Arnav's hand stopped, tying the tie. He looked at her, smiling.

"Khushi, why are you so bothered about the girl?"

She nodded NO and bit her lip.

"Khushi, you are unbelievable..."

"Why?"

"The biggest enemy is in the same house with you... Nandhini. You are not bothering about her, but the girl who proposed to me once... this is so funny..."

"Nandhini Didi is in the same house, but you don't like her..."

"Oh... did I like that girl?"

"You were supposed to meet the girl before your wedding fixed..."

"So, what will happen if I meet her?"

She nodded, no, pouting. Arnav chuckled.

"You became a typical wife..."

Arnav opened the cupboard and removed his watch from a box. That was when a folded paper from under the box fell. Before Arnav took it, Khushi did that. Arnav snatched the paper from her, making her perplexed. He looked at him, dumbfounded. Arnav unfolded the paper and read it, smilingly.

Khushi read his eyes, which were smiling. She became curious.

"What's that?" She asked.

Arnav looked at her, who was smiling at him with curious eyes. He thought something and tore the paper. Khushi looked at him disappointedly.

"It's nothing..."

She looked down, pouting. He rolled his eyes and lifted her chin.

"I don't want you to read it..."

Cutting him off,

"I don't know to read..."

Arnav was stuck. How did he forget that? He should not have torn the paper without showing it to her.

"Why did you tear it?"

Arnav sighed.

"It was the letter the girl wrote for me..."

Khushi widened her eyes.

"Did she write you a letter?"

Arnav nodded yes.

"Love letter?"

He again nodded, controlling his smile.

"What was in that? Why did you tear it? Did she write anything wrong?"

Arnav nodded no. He didn't tell her that she wrote it so beautifully.

"I'm married. I don't want to think about it anymore. That's why I tore it. Nothing more than that."

Khushi became relaxed.

"You are a nice man, Arnavji..."

"Is it?' Arnav smiled.

She nodded yes.

"You are so right in your stand and wanted to be true to your wife..."

Arnav spread his hands, asking her to come to him. Khushi rushed to his arms and embraced him, making him surprised.

"It seems someone is getting jealous?"

"Haan...I don't want to... but I can't..." Khushi pouted.

Arnav chuckled.

"I like your possessiveness..." he dashed her forehead.

"I like this..."

"What? Dashing your forehead?"

"You, me and our small world..."

Arnav admired her. He saw her facial expression change.

"What happened?"

"I can't be with you all the time..."

"You will be with me...always..."

"But, Didi will not let me be with you,"

"I will take care of her..."

"No, Arnavji. Don't do anything that she doesn't like. What if she harms you?"

"I'm not here to live what she wants... I will live my life as per my wish..."

Khushi became worried.

"Don't confuse your mind. Everything will be all right."

She smiled.

"I'm leaving. Be careful. Remove the mangal sutra. Anyone may come when I'm not here..."

Khushi nodded yes and removed the mangal sutra. Arnav took it from her and kept it in the cupboard.

"I will try to come soon..."

"No need, Arnavji. Enjoy the party with your friends. You meet them rarely..."

Arnav nodded.

"Take your time, Arnavji."

"Thank you, darling..." he kissed her hair and left.

Khushi smiled.

...........

Arnav headed to the car, talking on the phone. The servants looked at him, awestruck as he was steady.

"Yeah, I'm coming... wait for me..."

"............."

"No way... how would I drink when I'm eager to meet my friends?" Arnav disconnected the call.

The servants understood where he was going. He was going to meet his friends. That was why he didn't drink, they concluded.

Arnav reached his school. He got out of the car and headed to his gang. They hugged him excitedly. They started sharing their life experiences.

As Aman said, he came to the venue in disguise. No one could identify him. He looked different. The man who always maintained a clean-shaven look had a beard. Aman wanted to check if Arnav would identify him. He headed towards Arnav and stood in front of him. Arnav saw him and turned his gaze. Something kicked his mind, and he again looked at Aman. His eyes sharpened. His eyes widened.

"Aman..." he shouted.

In no time, Aman hugged Arnav and vice versa.

"I'm waiting for you, man..." Arnav said excitedly.

"How won't I come?" Aman said smilingly.

Their friends looked at them cheerfully. Yes, Arnav and Aman were school friends.

To be continued...
