The Sirius Star
"Do you know the star Sirius?"
Subaru asked me while casually lighting and wasting another cigarette. Recently, I could tell he smoked less. The ashes on the top of the trash can were much less.
I shook my head. I really didn't know anything about stars and stuff.
"Sirius is that one!" He pointed at the sky. The sky was clear, and there were lots of stars. While I was at a loss, Subaru added "It's always the brightest"
"Sirius is the brightest star visible on Earth, it is 23 times as luminous as the Sun and way hotter than the Sun"
"Is there some kind of myth about this star?" I asked.
Subaru seem to enjoy the smoke coming from the bud but didn't smoke himself. The smoke went up the air, making a weird spiral shape, and gradually vanished.
"It's just a normal star, happens to be the brightest, its color change is even visible through a telescope! It's not just yellow, or white, it's green, pink, orange, red, all kinds of hues"
I couldn't help but turned my head slightly away and yawned.
"Nothing's in the world is black or white, this or that, life or death. There are always the third, the fourth, the fifth dimensions to it. That's why it's beautiful."
It's so cold, I want to take a shower and go to sleep soon.
"Do you want to com...?"
"Do you want to c...?"
We spoke at the same time, and the whole atmosphere suddenly became awkward.
Subaru looked at me.
"Sorry..."
"Sorry..."
Once again, we said in unison.
I didn't know why I broke into laughter. And so did Subaru.
After a moment, Subaru cleared his throat.
"Would you like to go stargazing with me next weekend, Chung?"
