The warmth of his blood made Okuyasu's hands shake. It was warm, much too warm.
"Stay behind the tape! Stay back! Right now!"
With hands still shaking nonstop, he gently gripped Josuke's shoulders, as if it were some lame attempt to soothe his agonized friend. Josuke couldn't stop trembling, that hauntingly warm blood painting the pavement beneath him.
"H-He's dead...".
That accursed note. What would have happened if that meeting never took place? What if him and Josuke walked to school, buddies once again, blissfully ignorant to the kissed they shared many days ago? What if he wasn't so careless, leaping into action only to be fatally wounded at the hands of Killer Queen and Stray Cat? He could only further push the question into his head. What if...what if...what if? In a way...he felt as it was his fault.
Okuyasu felt the need to bend down and cradle his weakened friend, as he could see fragments of fear lingering in those once ocean blue eyes. He could only see a dying shade of blueish-gray. He didn't have much time. As he watched Josuke brush off a concerned paramedic, a gentle meow was pushed from Stray Cat, tucked in his belt, looking up at him with strangely concerned eyes. Okuyasu hesitated for a moment and took a free hand to try and pet the distressed cat. In a flash, Stray Cat snarled, nipping at his finger, a line of blood sliding down his index finger. Okuyasu drew back and reasoned with himself. "The cat's been through a lot I guess..." he muttered, as he turned his attention back to Josuke. Josuke coughed lightly, doubling over into Okuyasu's arms, his head resting against his chest. His breathing was scarcely shallow, and he shook violently. He rose a hand to grab ahold of Okuyasu arm with a helpless and frail grip.
"Don't go..." he whispered, his eyelids sinking shut, laying slack against his beloved friend. panic rose in Okuyasyu's chest, as he seized Josuke with panicked hands. "I'm right here bro, I'm right here!" he assured, feeling pricks of tears at the corner of his eyes. "This is my fault...shouldn't...have been so ca-careless..." Josuke coughed, resting a cheek in the crook of Okuyasu's elbow. Okuyasu shushed Josuke quietly and slowly cradled him, touching a calloused hand to his cheek. "Don't say that," Okuyasu lamented, a tear streaming slowly down his scarred cheek. "It was all me...if I wasn't so fucking stupid...I woulda used my head and you wouldn't have ended up this way!"
Josuke shook his head. "You were dead..." he mumbled. "And I couldn't do a damn thing...". Josuke coughed out a breath, spittles of bloody spit hanging to his lips. "I'm so sorry Okuyasu, I-."
Josuke sighed and fell limp into Okuyasu's arms. The blood was warm. Too warm against his shaky palms. "Josuke!" Okuyasu blabbered. "Josuke stop fooling around, get up!" He slowly shook his head, fresh with sudden shock. "Josuke..." he whispered. "Josuke don't do this to me...I came back...big bro...he...he helped me realize what's important to me here in Morioh."
As his head spun, he felt paramedics shaking him, asking for his name, asking him to let go of Josuke. It was easy pulling Josuke from his grasp, as he crumpled to the ground, Josuke's blood still fresh in his hands.
"What's your name, son?". It felt muffled, as if he were trapped in a little glass bottle. He could see, yet could hardly hear the world around him. The figures around him looked distorted as vertigo rushed his senses. he doubled over and felt like dry heaving. His lips trembled, as he could hear his pulse rapidly increase in his ear. "We need a name. If you can, what's your name kid?". Okuyasu was hoisted up, two paramedics bracing his arms around their shoulders. "He's in shock, either traumatic or some kind of hypovolemia..."
"I don't get it though, he's hardly got a scratch on him...". His lips quivered, as he slumped over and gave a last attempt at emptying his stomach. Steams of clear bile fell to the ground, as he rolled his head upward and cried pathetically. "Josuke," Okuyasu bawled, as one of the paramedics gently tipped his head forward. "Get a gurney, we should bring him along, this could get serious."
The world was a wash of milky pale colors, as noises felt distorted and thoughts were none the less shallow and nonsensical. Okuyasu's head was slowly tilted forward, as someone placed him on a soft white surface. Siren wailing, bloody streets and hands, the ringing in his ears, it all left him in a pathetic fragile state. Thoughts could not be gathered nor emotions or deep feelings. Through all the chaos in his mind, he was still haunted by the warmth of that blood. His body felt tightened, as some sort of restraints were fastened to his quivering body.
"Okuyasu! Okuyasu!". A blurry face stared down at him, speaking frantically with the paramedics. Through the blur in his sight, he could make out the spiky gray hair of his friend Koichi.
"He's in shock? He's gonna be fine right? And where's Josuke?!"
Everything felt grainy, as he choked on his breath and sucked in desperately for air. Someone gently elevated his head, and he gasped for air, sipping for as much air his lungs could hold in his shocked state. Something was slid over his head and gently adjusted. Air suddenly flowed into his lungs, and Okuyasu could tremble with relief.
"Mr.Kujo is with Josuke, do you know who this kid is?". "Yes, he's my friend Okuyasu," Koichi frantically responded. "Does he have any family of sorts?" The paramedic asked, signaling the other paramedic to help him load the gurney into the ambulance. Okuyasu felt a cold hand gently press down onto his forehead to hold him in place, as the top half of the gurney was propped up. As the gurney was pulled into the ambulance, he focused his eyes on Koichi. "Well erm...yes it's kinda complicated," Koichi sighed, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
"Would you mind coming with us? It'd be nice if we could get this whole family situation straightened out when we get to the ER."
Koichi only responded with a nod and climbed into the ambulance and took a seat next to the gurney swiftly and quietly. One of the paramedics signaled the other with a swift pointing motion, as he climbed into the back of the ambulance, shutting the doors behind him.
Koichi leaned forward and put a hand on Okuyausu's shoulder. "It's all over, Kira is gone, you did good."
His heart raced and he felt cold from being soaked with sweat. He slowly shook his head, trying to find the words to his dismal situation. Koichi squeezed his hand. "Josuke is gonna be okay, we're gonna be at the ER very very soon. Hang in there for me and Josuke. He needs to tell you how much he cares about you."
Koichi flinched for a moment and thought to himself, as if he were contemplating.
"Okuyasu, Josuke cares a lot about you more than just a friend, Josuke...he-"
With fear in his eyes, he was consumed in a sudden increasing blackness, his thoughts now grainy and slow. He could still hear Koichi, but he sounded gargled and grainy. He heard the voice of the pandemic, saying something that would have been reassuring. He thought hard and heard him say, "stay with us, we're almost there!"
He felt increasingly dizzy and suddenly tired. It was so cold and he ached. Under the air of the mask, he slowed down his deep breathes and slumped over. Was someone shaking him? He couldn't tell. Just a little longer. Just a little longer....he wanted to sleep.

Hey germs and fans! It's been more than a month I know, and as I have said before, it's been extremely stressful these past couple of months and I haven't had time to brainstorm and work on the story as much. BUT I'm gonna finish it that's a promise!! So be patient, and know that I could REALLY use some ideas! But yeah I'm sorry for the short chapter, but hey here we go, some sad shit :0
But yeah things are slow, me and another family member are really sick so ye gotta go get tested on Wednesday so be patient, I'll be back :) Also as I am writing this my dog ran into my room soaking wet from the snow and ran across me and my keyboard, so that's pretty cash money!
