Blood Group
I was still in shock when I entered the national literature class. I didn't even notice that the class had already started, so I casually walked in.
"Thank you for joining us, Amy," Mr. Kim Woo Bin told me in a sarcastic voice.
At that moment, I was dumbfounded, hurriedly walking to my table.
Today, Baekhyun didn't sit with me as usual, causing my "guilty guilt" to rise again. But in return, both Baekhyun and Suho were waiting for me at the door. As it turned out, I was somewhat "forgiven" as well. We walked side by side, Baekhyun showed more and more his talent, he kept rambling about the weather forecast for the week. Rain will not fall often, and for that, the plan to go to the beach will still proceed as planned. I try to look eager to erase the disappointment in Baekhyun's heart yesterday. But it's very difficult, because with or without rain, the temperature is only about 10oC, that is if we are lucky.
The rest of the morning passed quietly. It's hard to believe that what Jungkook said, and the way he looked in his eyes, wasn't my imagination. Did I confuse dream with reality? That's for sure, but I can't "catch" him.
Then I became impatient and panicked when I walked into the restaurant with Jisoo. My heart is eager to see Taehyung's face again, to check if he's wearing the "cold face" and indifference like he's had in the past few weeks? Maybe there will be some miracle for me to hear again what I thought I heard this morning. Jisoo was busy chirping about her dance plan - Min Ji and Nayeon finished inviting the boys, they'll all go together - she didn't know that I heard this but gave up. right to the other ear.
I was so disappointed that I looked directly at Taehyung's dining table. Four of them were present, still sitting there, but Taehyung was nowhere to be seen. Or has he already left home? I just sat there and endured Jisoo, with no appetite at all – and I decided not to buy anything, just paying for the lemonade. At this point, all I want is to sit down and "sulk" alone.
- Kim Taehyung is looking at you - Jisoo reminded, his name finally pulled me from the clouds back to the ground - I don't understand why he's sitting alone today.
I woke up, hurried and followed my friend's eyes to find Taehyung. He was sitting alone, across the diner, looking at me and smiling absently. Then when he met my eyes, he raised his hand as if to call me to him. I don't understand anything, just sit still and look back. He winked as a signal.
- Is he calling you? – Jisoo asked me, her voice filled with surprise.
"He probably wants me to help him with his biology homework," I mumbled. "Well, I guess I should go see what he needs.
I can clearly feel Jisoo's eyes glued to my back from the moment I get up and leave the table.
Arriving in front of Taehyung's desk, I carefully stand behind the chair next to him, feeling inexplicably lacking in confidence.
- Why don't you sit with me today? - He asked, smiling.
I sat down immediately, my eyes still on Taehyung. He still kept his smile. I can't believe how in the world there is such a beautiful person. In my head, I kept thinking that he would disappear like smoke, and that I would have to get up. I was filled with anxiety.
Looks like Taehyung is waiting for me.
"This is different," I said at last.
- Um... - He paused for a moment and then continued with meaningless words - I have decided, even if I go to hell, I will still do it.
I waited to hear something more understandable, but time passed...
"You know, I don't understand what you're saying," I confessed.
"I know," Taehyung smiled again and changed the subject. "Your friends must be angry about me kidnapping you.
"They can't stand it." I felt the look of boredom behind me.
"But I can't give you back." Taehyung's eyes flashed again.
I swallowed the saliva in my throat.
Taehyung laughed.
- She looks worried.
"No," I answered, but it was funny, my voice cracked. "Really... just surprised. Why is that?
- Well, I already told you... I'm tired of avoiding you so much. I give up – Taehyung continues to laugh, but his terracotta eyes are serious.
- Surrender? – I asked again confused.
- Yeah... giving in to the good stuff. Now I'll just do what I want, give Caesar what belongs to Caesar... – Taehyung's smile fades as he explains it to me, there's something bitter in his voice him.
- Then you'll leave me again.
A mischievous yet seductive smile appeared again.
- Every time I talk to you, I talk a lot... That's also a problem.
"Don't worry... because I don't understand," I said sarcastically.
- I did it on purpose.
- Come on, let's be frank, are we friends now?
"Friends..." Taehyung froze, dumbfounded.
"Or not?" I asked softly.
He grinned.
- Yeah, give it a try, I believe. But I must warn you that I am not a good friend of yours – Behind that smile lies a real concern.
"You've said that a lot," I remarked, ignoring my growling stomach, trying to keep my voice natural.
- Yeah, why wouldn't you listen to me? I'll wait until you believe it. If you're wise, stay away from me.
"Looks like you've thought about my brain problems too." My eyes darkened.
Taehyung smiled, apologetic.
- That means if I'm... stupid, we'll be friends, right? – I make the final conclusion so that this ridiculous contract will end soon.
- Yeah, that's right.
I looked down at my hands holding a bottle of lemonade, not knowing what to do now.
- What are you thinking? Taehyung looked at me curiously.
Looking into those dark yellow eyes, I suddenly became dazed, and as usual, I confessed the truth:
I'm trying to figure out what kind of person you are.
Taehyung's jaws tighten, but he still manages to smile.
- Did you find anything yet? – His voice is natural.
"Not much," I confessed.
Taehyung burst out laughing.
- So, what did you see?
My face turned red. For a whole month, I had to decide whether to classify him as Brune Wayne (Batman) or Peter Parker (Spider-Man). And in the end I gave up, I don't know who he looks like...
- Why didn't you tell me? Taehyung asked, his head tilted to the side, accompanied by a charming smile.
I shook my head at the counter.
- Well, that's great.
"That pisses people off, do you understand," he grumbled.
- No - I retorted immediately, my face falling - I don't understand why you should be angry... just because other people don't tell you what they think; even when people have actions and gestures that make you difficult to understand, make you wake up in the middle of the night and scratch your head, pull your hair... And that's why you're upset?
Taehyung grimaced,
- It's best... - I continued, the troubles that have been suppressed for so long now have a chance to release - ... accept that every person has strange things. For example, it is possible to save someone's life in a difficult situation, but then treat that person like a "lower creature" nothing more or less. Yet never explained the reason, even promised. So there's nothing to be upset about.
- You're pissed, aren't you?
- I don't like "two gills".
We looked at each other seriously.
Suddenly, Taehyung bursts out laughing as he looks over my shoulder.
- What's wrong?
"Looks like your boyfriend thinks I'm troubling you, he's considering whether to interfere in our conversation or not." After saying that, he opened his mouth again and continued to laugh. .
"I don't know who you're talking about," I replied nonchalantly, "but I can be sure you're wrong.
- I'm not wrong. I told you, most people are very predictable.
- It's just me.
- YES. It's just you – Taehyung's voice chokes, his eyes darkening - I keep wondering why.
I turned away, not daring to meet those emotional eyes, my hands flailing open the bottle of lemonade. Then I took a sip of the water, my eyes fixed on the table without really looking at it.
- Aren't you hungry? - Taehyung spoke up, obviously trying to suppress his emotions.
- No - I'm not hungry at all - What about you? I asked, looking at the empty table in front of him.
"No, I'm not hungry." His expression was unreadable, as if he had just thought of something funny.
- Can you do this for me? I asked after a few seconds of hesitation.
Taehyung was immediately alert.
- It depends on what you want.
"Nothing terrible," I replied firmly.
He looked like he was waiting, still wary, but he couldn't hide his curiosity.
- Can you... let me know in advance when you want to avoid me... for my good. That's just for me... to prepare, that's all – As I spoke, I focused my eyes on the lemonade bottle, my little finger stroking the contours of the bottle without leaving it.
- Okay!
I looked up, noticing that his lips were pursed... to keep from bursting into laughter.
- Thanks.
- In return, I want an answer, okay? It's Taehyung's turn to suggest.
- Just one.
- Tell me one of your comments about me.
(Ooh...)
- That can't be.
"Don't be like that, didn't you just promise to give me an answer," he reminded him.
- But you also made a promise (If you want to remind, I will remind you!)
- Just a comment... I won't laugh.
"No, you'll laugh again," I replied firmly.
Taehyung lowers his eyes, but then he immediately lifts them up and stares at me through his long jet-black lashes, his golden brown eyes glowing.
- Any? Jungkook leaned forward slightly and inhaled deeply.
I blinked, my mind going blank. Oh my god, how does he do that?
- Oh, what?
- Tell me one of your comments about me- He was still staring at me as if trying to get a new answer.
- Um, um... In the past, have you ever been bitten by a radioactive spider?
Does he have the ability of a hypnotist? Or am I a manipulator?
Can't you think of anything better? Jungkook deliberately mocked.
- Sorry, that's all in my head-I replied, feeling proud.
- You only think of nonsense- he continued provoking.
- So no spiders bite?
- Are not
- So there's no radioactivity at all?
- What to do.
- Damn it, damn it- I sighed.
- If you told me I came from the planet Kryptonite, I wouldn't be surprised- He started laughing again.
- You promised not to laugh, remember?
Taehyung bit his lips to stop laughing, looking miserable.
- I'll find out anyway- I announced confidently.
- I hope you don't try to do anything - he said with a serious face.
- Why that?
- What if I'm not a hero? What if I'm a bad guy? – Taehyung tries to put on a funny smile but his eyes are hard to read.
- Oh - I seem to realize what he just hinted - I get it.
- Do you understand? Taehyung's face stiffens, he looks worried because he accidentally revealed so much to me.
- Are you a dangerous person? – The blood vessels in my body suddenly increased their circulation when I realized the meaning of my words. Scary Taehyung. And he tried to warn me about that.
Taehyung just looks at me, his eyes trying to say something, but I can't understand.
- But not bad- I whispered and shook my head slightly. "No, I don't believe you're a bad person.
- You're wrong-Taehyung's voice was barely audible. He lowered his eyes, grabbed my lemonade bottle cap and twirled it between his fingers. I stare at Taehyung, feeling strange that I'm not afraid of him. What he just said... was a clear statement. But in me there is only a feeling of anxiety, irritation... And, above all, the feeling of being enchanted. It's still the same feeling when I'm near Taehyung.
The silence between the two of us suddenly ended when I suddenly realized that the restaurant was empty.
I almost jumped up.
- We're late!
"I'm not going to class today," Taehyung replied, twirling the bottle cap on the table.
- What's up?
- Once in a while, you'll feel better after a meal- He smiled, but his eyes were full of worry.
- But I have to go to school- I said (being a coward, I was so disgusted when the school found out about truancy).
As if suddenly remembering his "reluctant gyroscope" lying dormant for a long time, Taehyung raised the bottle cap again, twirling it on the table.
- See you later.
I hesitate, half wanting to go to class, half wanting to stay with Taehyung. And I woke up when the first bell rang. I staggered to the door, after tilting my head slightly to look at the "mystery person" one last time. He was still sitting there, motionless.
Outside, the rain has stopped. I ran to class, my mind spinning faster than that bottle cap. Only a few questions have been solved while dozens of new questions have surfaced...
I'm lucky, teacher Dong Wook hasn't entered the class yet. Rest assured, I quickly settled into my seat, realizing that both Baekhyun and Nayeon were watching me. Baekhyun looks angry, and Nayeon looks surprised, but something like...respect!?!
Teacher Dong Wook entered the class, demanding all order. In his hands are cardboard boxes. The teacher put everything on Baekhyun's desk and asked him to distribute it to the whole class.
"Come on, kids, I want you all to take something out of each box." He said as he pulled out a pair of surgical gloves from his coat pocket. The squealing sound of gloves when hugging my wrists gives me a vague premonition of something bad... – Firstly, the instruction sheet - Teacher Dong Wook continued and pulled out a card. white card with four squares engraved, hold it up for us to see – The second is a four prong test piece – With that said, the teacher took out what looked like a comb but had almost no teeth left – And the third one was sterile needle. – As soon as he finished speaking, the teacher took out a small flat, plastic, blue box; open its cover.
In the distance, I couldn't see the needle, but my stomach started to quiver.
- I will take the dropper and go around the class to prepare the experiment for you, you just sit still, until I give you permission to do it, it will be done - And teacher Dong Wook starts at Baekhyun's desk , I carefully put into four squares, each square is a drop of solution – Then, I want each of you to prick your fingers with a needle...
Teacher Dong Wook picked up Baekhyun's hand and pricked Baekhyun's middle finger. Oh my God. Cold sweat started to fall on my forehead.
- ... Please put a drop of blood on each of these prongs – Teacher started modeling again, squeezing Baekhyun's fingers until the blood came out.
My whole body started to "protest", my stomach kept boiling.
- ... And attach it to the indicator plate.
Teacher Dong Wook finished his tutorial and held up the bright red indicator for us to see. I quickly closed my eyes, trying to grasp the progress of the class through the rustling, jingle, and crackling sounds in my ears.
- ... Next weekend, the Red Cross car will come, so I want all of you to know your blood type – It seems that Mr. Dong Wook is very proud, just listen to his words. The teacher alone is enough to understand – Children who are not yet eighteen years old need to ask their parents' permission. There is an application form on the teacher's desk.
Then teacher Dong Wook continued to walk around the class with a dropper of solution in hand. I stretched my body to the table, leaned my chin on the black, cool table and encouraged myself to calm down. All around me, there were sounds of emotion: squealing yes, groaning yes, giggling yes – as my friends pricked their own fingers. I started breathing hard through my mouth.
- Amy, are you okay? – Teacher Dong Wook's voice echoed above my head. The teacher seems worried.
- Teacher, I already know my blood type- My voice whispered, sounding like a breeze (It means: I'm so scared, I don't dare to look up!)
- Do you feel uncomfortable inside?
- Yes-I replied softly, but in my heart, I was vehemently opposed to my intention to "escape".
- Can anyone take Amy to the infirmary? – Teacher Dong Wook called.
I don't dare look up, but I know Baekhyun will volunteer to do it.
- Can I still walk? – Teacher Dong Wook asked again.
-Okay-I mumbled in my throat again (You just let me out of here and I'll be on my own!)
Baekhyun looks eager as he wraps his arm around my waist, lifting my arm, wrapping it around his shoulder. And just like that, I felt like I was completely leaning on Baekhyun and dragging my feet out of the classroom.
Baekhyun slowly led me out to the yard. After going around the restaurant, disappearing from the four-story building with teacher Dong Wook watching, I immediately stopped.
-Give me a break-I said.
Baekhyun then helped me sit down on a sidewalk by the side of the road.
-And whatever you do, just put your hands in your pockets for me-I continued. Right now, my eyes and nose are still dizzy. I stretched out again, resting my chin on the cold, damp cement of the sidewalk, closing my eyes. There's a little bit more help.
- God, you look so green. Amy! Baekhyun panicked.
- Amy? - A voice called to me from afar.
- What's wrong... Is she hurt somewhere? – That voice was a bit closer and filled with panic
