Part 9 Daring Khushi

Shilpa could not understand anything. How was Arnav so easy with Khushi? He was not that kind. How did he eat her food?

She stood without moving to hear more.

"Is it? Did Arnav give it?" Aman asked.

"Yes, he ate my food. I usually bring sweets and juice, but he didn't. So, he bought it for me." She said proudly.

"That's nice." He took a sweet from the box and ate it.

"You know what? I like sweets..." she said, eating the sweet, relishing.

"It seems you would have felt sad if Arnav hadn't got you sweets...?" he asked teasingly.

"Not at all... but yes..." she ate another sweet.

Aman chuckled.

"Will you always be like this?" he asked.

"How? Like mad?" she asked, sucking her finger.

"Not mad... funny..."

"Of course, what would we gain by being serious? Be happy and make others happy is my motto..."

"Good motto. Keep it up." Aman smiled.

Khushi ate the sweet and drank the juice.

"It's so devious..." she said, finishing the bottle.

"Shall we start the training?" Aman asked.

"Yeah..." She sat straight.

"First, know the power of your post. You are a PA of the BOSS. That means, next to him... the second most powerful person in this company."

Cutting him off,

"Manager?" she asked.

"Next to you..."

"Is it?"

"Yes, you can even stop me from entering the Boss's cabin..." he smiled.

Again, cutting him off,

"No, no... I won't do that. You can enter his cabin..." she said as if she was doing him a favour.

"Thank god..." Aman chuckled.

"I meant, if it is necessary," he said.

"I see... did the Ex-PA do that ever?"

"No, because he knew I'm Arnav's friend."

"Oh... is this for me?" she asked, teasingly.

"Not at all because I know you won't mind me being his friend."

Khushi laughed.

Shilpa left the place fuming. Why the hell was Aman teaching her unnecessary points? Was it important to tell her that she could stop the manager from entering the Boss's cabin? She didn't like a NEW girl getting power in the office.

That was when she received a call from her friend, Alice. She was Arnav and Shilpa's schoolmate.

"Hi..." She said with disinterest.

"What happened? Why do you sound weary?" Alice asked.

"It's because I'm weary..." she said wearily.

"But why?"

"It's because Arnav is not giving heed to me." She said irritably.

"I can't believe this. How many guys had fallen for your charms...! How doesn't he?"

"I can't understand anything. I'm in India for him only, but he makes me irritated."

"Do one thing. Find another way to get him..."

"How?"

"Do you remember, he said in our alumni meet, that he is so thankful to his Mami?"

"Yes, I do... she is the one who helped him to start a business. His gratitude for her is unimaginable."

"Exactly. Try to get into her goodbook. If she likes you, Arnav will definitely accept you..."

"What an idea! I love you for this idea..." she literally hoped.

"Behave politely with the woman. She should think no one is better than you for Arnav."

"Yeah... just wait and watch... how I will make her chant my name..."

"Feb 14 is her birthday..."

"Yes, Arnav told us once about it. He wished her on Feb 14, which was Valentine's Day. How could I forget it?" Shilpa said in excitement.

"Yeah, go to his house and touch her feet. She will flat..."

"Yes, yes, I will do that. I will buy a costly gift for her and make her flat..."

"Go ahead..."

They disconnected the call. Shilpa was on cloud nine as she came up with a great idea to trap Arnav.

Two days later

Khushi completed the training. She came to Arnav's cabin to take charge as his PA.

"Good morning, Sir," She wished with a bright smile.

"Good morning..." he said.

Khushi didn't find it brisk.

"What happened, Sir? You look tired..."

"You said you would bring me lunch, but you didn't..." he sighed.

"But, you said no..." She said, horrified.

"Of course, I said NO, but how could you take it seriously?" he asked, suppressing his smile.

"Shouldn't I take it seriously? She asked, raising her brows.

"Not every order to be obeyed..."

"Oh...what if you don't like it if I didn't obey you for something?" She became thoughtful.

"I hope you know what to obey and what not to..."

She nodded.

That was when Shilpa came to Arnav's cabin to submit a file to Arnav.

She knocked on the open door and entered without waiting for Arnav's permission. She kept the file on his table.

"You should sign the file." She said.

Before Arnav said anything,

"I will check it first, sir. You can sign after that, sir." Khushi said.

More than Shilpa, Arnav was stunned.

"What do you mean?" Shilpa asked.

"I said I will check it."

"Are you insulting me?" She sneered.

"I just said what was taught to me..."

"This is ridiculous..."

"I will do what was taught to me, even though it was ridiculous..." Khushi said with no fear.

Shilpa looked at her, controlling her anger.

"Khushi, Shilpa is sincere, you know?" Arnav said that calmed Shilpa down.

That gave her guts.

"I want to talk to him, get out," Shilpa said, looking at Khushi.

Before Arnav said anything,

"Why should I go out? I am his PA. It's you who trespassed on my Boss's cabin without my permission."

"Your permission?" Shilpa asked sarcastically.

"Yes, I am his PA. What do you think about the PA post? I have the right to question anyone who enters my boss's cabin." She said daringly.

Shilpa looked at Arnav, who was speechless.

"Arnav, won't you control your PA?"

Before Arnav replied,

"He won't control me because I don't do anything beyond my limit. I am doing my duty; then how could he control me?" Khushi said confidently.

Arnav was dumbfounded. He didn't expect Khushi to lash out at Shilpa without fear.

"I am his girlfriend," Shilpa said.

Khushi was shocked.

"Whaaaat?" Arnav said, frowning. That gave Khushi courage.

"You can't be his girlfriend. If you are his girlfriend, he would not have let me talk a word against you. Even though you are his girlfriend, I can do nothing with that. Because this is an office, not a lovers' park."

Arnav was surely amazed.

"How dare you...!" Shilpa sneered.

"Why won't I dare? I'm your slave or what?"

"Arnav, why are you letting her talk against me? Don't you have concern for me?" Shilpa seethed.

"Why would you lie that you are my girlfriend?" Arnav asked, making her disappointed and Khushi delighted.

"I don't support liars." He added.

Shilpa left his cabin after throwing a glare at Khushi.

"Girlfriend..." Khushi murmured, biting her teeth.

Arnav controlled his smile.

"I really appreciate your guts, Khushi. Well done..."

Khushi smiled.

"By the way, what would you have done if she was my girlfriend?" he asked, controlling his smile.

"I just did my duty. How do I know if she is your girlfriend? You would have told me about her prior."

He leaned on the seat and looked at her with an attitude.

"Is she your girlfriend?" she asked, making a face.

Arnav chuckled and nodded no. Khushi's face brightened.

"She is not your girlfriend, but she said she is your girlfriend. How dare she!"

"She is my school friend..."

"It doesn't mean she is your girlfriend. Fifty-plus girls might be in your class when you studied in school. Could all be your girlfriends?"

Arnav nodded, chuckling.

"Sir, shall I ask you something?" she asked curiously.

"What?"

"I heard people saying that you are a tough nut to crack..."

Arnav was bewildered and then laughed.

"Tough nut? Really?"

"Haan, Lavanya and Shilpa warned me not to get close to you," she said with a funny expression.

"Oh..."

"When I told them that you are not like that, they didn't believe me."

"Oh, what else did they say?"

"Lavanya said, you would not waste your time on a mad girl like me. Do you know what she asked me?"

"What?" he smiled.

"She said you can't be Arnav. She thought I misunderstood, seeing someone instead of you."

He smiled.

"Are you such a person? But I don't see any symptoms in you," she asked thoughtfully.

"I was like that..."

"Is it?"

He nodded.

"I think you should have understood the reality of life. Am I right?"

"Yes, you are right." He agreed with her.

"That's nice to hear. This life is so beautiful; we should spend it happily. At least, we should make someone smile every day..."

Arnav nodded affirmatively.

"I'm glad that I got a cool Boss..." she smiled.

"I will try to be a cool Boss."

"Thank you so much. I will bring my lunch bag. You eat mine, today."

"And you?"

"I will eat your spice-less lunch today..." she said, controlling her smile.

"What about tomorrow?"

"I will bring two lunch bags... one for you and another for me..."

"Won't your mother scold you for making her work hard?"

"What's there to work hard? She will prepare them a little more... if she feels it hard, I will help her...simple..."

"Won't it be hard for you to come to the office after working in the kitchen?" he asked.

"Of course... but I will have to do that after my marriage. So, getting trained for that phase is also necessary because I can't expect my husband to be skilled in cooking..."

Arnav was stuck. How lucky her husband would be! He would always be smiling if she was with him. She would not let him feel sad about anything. His days would pass listening to her blabber. He thought about her husband.

To be continued...
