Kabanata 3

"WHAT?" GINO ASKED, confused.

Rai smirked. He was about to answer when I cleared my throat and glanced around.

"Uh... Nandito ang girlfriend mo? Nando'n ba?" Tumuro ako sa kawalan.

My friends glanced around as well.

Rai clenched his jaw as he stared at me. He was about to speak again, but I shot him a sharp glare and shook my head.

Lucian was on the couch, sipping whisky with three other handsome men.

When Lucian saw me, he waved cutely, but I just smiled awkwardly at him and shook my head. He whispered something to the men beside him, and they all turned to look at me at the same time. I noticed some faces seem familiar to me. Saan ko ba nakita ang mga 'to?

"Uhm, nice meeting you!" I told Rai.

He raised a brow and eyed the man beside me.

"Sige, una na kami!" I added, dragging my friends away.

The two girls fussed, but Gino told them off, so they calmed down.

Damn! Too much flirting with handsome, rich men!

As soon as we got downstairs, Gino invited me to dance, but I refused. Instead, I waved at the waiter, grabbed a glass of vodka, and took a sip.

"Bakit kasi tayo umalis agad, Sera?" Jesusa complained. "I wanted to talk to Wave! Magpapa-picture sana ako!"

Akala ko si Rai ay si Ephraim Miranda? Why the hell was he called Vioxx?

"Ano'ng buong pangalan no'ng engineer?" I asked, confused.

"Oh, Vioxx Ephraim Miranda," Jesusa answered. "But his friends and family members call him by his first name. Ayaw raw niyang tinatawag sa buong pangalan niya."

"Mas maayos ang Vioxx. Ang pangit ng Ephraim—kadiri pakinggan." I grimaced and drained the rest of my glass.

"Kadiri? Ang hot kaya!" Jenny exclaimed.

I'm obviously lying, so I just grimaced again, leaned back, at do'n na naramdaman ang hilo sa deretsong pag-inom.

"Are you alright?" Gino asked.

I shifted my gaze to him. "Yeah, just kinda dizzy."

He sighed, tilting his head as he studied me more closely. I felt awkward, kaya uminom pa ako at pumikit.

"Maghahanap na ako ng ibang guwapong boylet!" Jenny declared. Napadilat tuloy ako.

"Better find someone wealthy," I said.

"Of course! As if matatanggap ng pamilya ko kung magkakaroon ako ng mahirap na boyfriend—even just friends! Maaarte sila! They only want me to be surrounded by people in our circle!"

Natahimik ako't napalunok.

"Yeah," Jesusa agreed. "Rich people are definitely classier! Sorry, but I don't want to be friends with those, you know..." She and Jenny laughed.

I didn't laugh with them, I just looked at them quietly. First, because I'm poor. Second, because I don't like how they judge poor people like me.

Wow, Sera. You're a hypocrite! You wonder why they judge poor people, yet you're there pretending you're rich. Judgmental ka rin!

"Jesusa, Jenny," Gino warned them.

"What?" Jenny exclaimed. "Ano'ng masama ro'n? Totoo naman! As if your parents would let you befriend people below us!"

"Come on, I'll give you tips on how to catch a wealthy man!" Jesusa said, laughing.

I laughed too, shaking my head. "Ano'ng tips 'yan?" I got another glass of vodka and took a sip.

"Hmm, para malaman mong may pera, tignan mo ang pantalon. Kapag may nakasabit na susi, may car 'yan!" Jesusa said, making me laugh more as I shook my head again.

I gulped down another drink, wincing as the bitterness burned my throat.

"Hey, don't drink too much," Gino whispered to me.

I groaned softly and closed my eyes until I felt his hand on my arm. Bahagya akong napatalon at napadilat.

Jesusa teased, laughing.

I chuckled and stood up. Napatayo rin si Gino.

"Restroom lang ako," I said, feeling a little dizzy.

"Ihahatid na kita," Gino offered, but I shook my head with a weak smile.

"No, kaya ko na."

"You're drunk, Sera, baka matumba ka—"

"I can go on my own, Gino..."

"I can help you—"

I shook my head. "No, I'm fine. Really. Thank you, but I can handle myself."

Gino fell silent, sighed, and nodded, stepping back.

"Alright. Basta bumalik ka kaagad."

I walked into the crowd, trying to steady myself despite the dizziness. A waiter passed by with a tray of drinks, and I grabbed one, downing it in a single gulp.

"Ma'am!" May umalalay sa 'kin nang muntik nang matumba. I turned and laughed when I saw the bodyguard.

"Uy! Nandiyan ka pala!" I chuckled.

"Lasing ka na, Ma'am. Kailangan mo nang umuwi," he said firmly.

"Hindi ako lasing!" I groaned, looked away, and did my best to walk to the bathroom on shaky legs.

Damn it! Napadami ang inom ko! I'm only supposed to drink a glass or two!

I entered and stared at the mirror, realizing my vision was doubling. I groaned, fumbling for my lipstick. I colored my lips, but with one clumsy move, it went in another direction. Damn it! Lagpas sa labi!

I blinked and tried to wipe the stain, but since I was out of focus, it only spread further across my mouth. As I bent down to pick them up, my forehead hit the sink.

"Fuck!" I groaned, clutching my head.

Ang malas-malas!

Still dizzy, I gathered my belongings and shoved them back into my pouch, annoyed beyond measure. My lipstick was a mess, and now I had a bump on my forehead—for sure, unicorn 'to mamaya!

I stepped out of the ladies' room and noticed something that instantly made me smile. Rai was leaning against the wall right in front of the restroom, hands in his pockets, staring intently at me. He's wearing a black button-down shirt and slacks, three buttons undone, sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Sinundan siguro niya ako.

I hopped towards him excitedly.

"Rai! Rai!" I beamed.

He straightened and met me halfway, but I gasped as I lost balance, nearly falling to the floor. Pero naabot niya ako kaagad bago pa 'yon matuluyan. I giggled as I pressed against his chest, inhaling the intoxicating scent of his perfume.

"Careful," he whispered.

I chuckled, tugging lightly at his shirt to regain my balance. He held my waist, lifting me slightly so I could stand properly.

"Rai... help," I murmured when our eyes met.

His brows furrowed. "Why?" His voice turned sharp, suddenly alert.

"Kasi, kanina sa CR..." I began, and his jaw tightened as he glanced toward the restroom.

"Lando, check the restroom!" His voice thundered. Nagmadali si Lando papasok.

I realized that he was thinking someone might have hurt me, so I shook my head repeatedly and slapped his arm. "No! It's not what you're thinking."

His brows furrowed as he glanced back at the bathroom. "Namumula ang noo mo!"

"Pero walang nanakit sa akin!" I said, stopping him.

"Look!" I exclaimed, pointing at my lips.

"May humalik sa 'yo?" he asked harshly, but I only laughed and shook my head.

"No! Kumalat 'yong lipstick ko kasi nagkamali ako ng lagay!"

His face relaxed a little, though he still looked alarmed.

"Engineer, wala pong tao sa loob," Lando reported. We both glanced at him.

Nagulat si Lando sa itsura namin. Ngumisi lang ako.

"Lando, ayos lang, wala talagang tao," I cleared. "Masyadong protective lang si Engineer—"

"Iwan mo muna kami," Rai dismissed him.

His face relaxed slightly, though he still looked stern. He lowered his gaze to look at me, and I smiled sweetly. Tilting my head up, I felt his finger brush the side of my lips.

He shook his head.

"You're drunk, Serafine," he groaned quietly.

I chuckled, pushing him softly.

"I thought you were hiding from that boy? Bakit magkasama kayo ngayon?" he asked, pertaining to Gino.

I ignored him and glanced at his pants. My eyes narrowed as I remembered what my friend said—kapag ang lalaki raw may sasakyan, may susi na nakasabi sa pants!

I lowered my head to check.

"Sera," he warned.

I pouted and touched his pants.

"What the hell..." His voice trailed off.

"Bakit walang susi? 'Di ba may kotse ka?" My eyes were sleepy as I looked up at him.

"It's in my pocket," he explained as calmly as possible, though I could hear the restraint.

He tried holding me again, but I pulled away and peered at his pants.

"Stop staring at my pants, Serafine!" he hissed, pulling me back, but I brushed his hand away.

"Titingin lang! Ang damot!" I scoffed.

"You're drunk. Iuuwi na kita—"

"Rai, maumbok 'yong gitna o!" I poked his pants.

"Fuck..." His voice came out low, almost sensual.

"Susi 'yan?" I asked, laughing like a freak.

"Shut up, Serafine! Stop staring at my pants! Iuuwi na kita!"

"Ayaw ko!" I exclaimed, lowering myself further—only to gasp when my pouch slipped from my hand.

"What the hell, Serafine Veronica?!" Mataas ang boses niya, galit na.

"Nalaglag ang pouch ko!" I insisted, kneeling to gather my things.
He cursed loudly, grabbing my hand, but I pushed him away again.

"'Yong pouch ko nga!"

"I will get it for you... S-Stop kneeling in front of my fucking—" He couldn't finish his sentence, because someone suddenly gasped.

I turned, my vision almost doubling, and noticed people nearby. My forehead creased, but I ignored them and focused on my pouch and the scattered things on the floor.

"Tangina."

My eyes widened, and I froze when Rai suddenly knelt in front of me, quickly gathering the fallen items and my pouch, irritation clear on his face.

"R-Rai, naano ko 'yong ano mo—"

"Shut up, woman," he hissed.

I bit my lip, trying to stand, but before I could, he effortlessly lifted me into his arms.

I gasped, wrapping my arms around his neck, my eyes wide. I heard whispers around us, but I just ignored them to bury my face against his chest.

We eventually reached the parking lot. Nahihilo man, I glanced at Rai and saw his jaw tight, his expression dark.

"Galit ka?" I asked softly.

He didn't look at me, and his face remained serious as he walked. I lifted my hand to caress his jaw, but he turned away.

"Stop teasing me, Serafine."

"I'm not teasing you..." I pouted, kicking lightly to try and lower myself, but he gripped me tighter.

"Are you always like this when you're drunk?" His sharp voice cut through.

"Hmm... no." I chuckled.

"Huwag ka nang maglasing uli," he said coldly. "I don't want to see you kneeling like that in front of other—"

"Don't worry, 'di ko ipapakita sa 'yo," I giggled.

He froze, his blazing brown eyes glaring. He looked like he was about to throw me down, so I puckered my lips.

"Joke..." I purred like a cat, hugging his neck tighter.

His breathing deepened.

He placed me inside his car, and I sighed loudly once seated. I yawned and rubbed my temples.

When Rai entered, I smiled as our eyes met, but he didn't smile back. He only frowned at me and adjusted my seatbelt.

"Iuuwi na kita."

"No..."

He turned to me, confused.

"Huwag mo muna ako i-uwi. Bukas na." I continued.

"Why? Baka nag-aalala na si Migs."

I bit my lower lip. "Magagalit si Nanay kapag nalaman niyang lasing ako—she'll hurt me again. Please, huwag muna," I pleaded, not realizing it.

He stared intently, something flickering in his eyes. "She hurt you?" he asked, his voice sharp.

'Di ako sumagot kaagad, sa halip ay pumikit lang.

"J-Just take me somewhere else, Rai. Baka madamay pa si Miggy."

He just sighed.

When I heard the engine, I relaxed a little. The ride was silent, so I tried to lighten the mood.

"Rai, bakit guwapo ka?"

He shook his head, smirking.

"Just sleep, Sera," he murmured.

"Guwapo ka nga," I teased. "Saka malaki 'yang ano mo..."

I nearly screamed when he suddenly hit the brakes.

"Rai!"

"Just shut up, Sera," he groaned. "Why were you at the bar, anyway?"

I pouted before answering. "Naghahanap ng mayamang boylet."

His grip tightened on the steering wheel. "Why the hell would you need one?" he asked. His voice was sharp, his gaze fixed ahead, irritation evident.

"Money, of course! I'm in dire need of money, Rai—obviously," I said, rolling my eyes.

"Give me your bank account then," aniya kaya mabilis na pumaling ang ulo ko sa kanya.

"What?"

"Give me your bank account," he repeated, impatient.

My mouth parted, and I straightened up, erupting in laughter as I shook my head.

"Come on, Rai! Wala pa akong ginagawa, naaakit ka na sa alindog ko!"

He cursed under his breath, avoiding my gaze.

"Just give me your bank details, Sera," he said, irritated, pero mas natawa lang ako.

"Okay, Daddy," I purred, crossing my arms over my chest.

He glanced at me sharply, brows furrowed.

"What did you just call me?" he snapped, raising a brow.

I smirked sheepishly.

"You're gonna be my sugar daddy, aren't you?" I teased.

"Bakit walang imik? So totoo nga?"

"That's bullshit, Sera. I will give you money because you need it!" he defended.

"I need it for my whole lifetime, Rai," I said sultrily, smiling like an idiot.

"Lifetime it is," he murmured, jaw clenched. Umawang ang labi ko.

"S-Seriously?"

He didn't answer.

I covered my mouth, staring at him in shock. "Rai—"

"Shut it, Serafine."

"I won't call you sugar daddy because it sounds cheap!"

He froze, then tilted his head. "What are you gonna call me then, woman?" His tone was dismissive, unconcerned with my nonsense.

I grinned.

"Papa dé Asukal!" I declared, gasping when the car screeched to a stop. Sunod-sunod ang pagmumura niya.
