Chap 5: Memories: America
Jin has a new mother. His mother Hani gave him a new life full of challenges with a kid like him. A life in a dangerous dark world. What kind of scary things would a 15 year old kid like Jin have to face in that underworld?
"Jin, wake up baby! It's late for today's training". Hani called upstairs from downstairs. She brought Jin to America with her to change Jin into a new person. She wants Jin to change so she can be strong, maybe not weak. Hani expects a lot from Jin. Jin has what it takes to be a mafia boss. " Yes mom! I woke up! Wait for me a little longer..". Jin said echoing downstairs. Hani heard Jin's voice and smiled brightly, went back to the kitchen to continue preparing breakfast. She can be cold in the dark but she is very warm, gentle and loves Jin to the fullest.
A room with quite deep tones, broken with white curtains next to the floor-to-ceiling window, there's a boy still lying in bed. That boy is Jin. Since coming to the USA, Jin has changed a lot. A new soul replaces the soul that has suffered before. Jin has turned into a different person because everything around him has changed. Smoky gray hair, eyes as deep as a bottomless abyss, plump red lips,...everything is so different from Jin at the orphanage. Especially his smile. His smile is like it could kill anyone. It doesn't have the playfulness, the cuteness that a 15 year old should have. That smile makes Jin even more unpredictable, sinister and brutal. Jin's smile is judged by all trainers as the smile of an angel in the form of a devil. And that makes Jin's mother Hani very happy.
After spending some time in the bathroom to clean himself, Jin came out of the room wearing an all-black suit, wearing a belt that contained a gun and two daggers. Looking back in the mirror, seeing that everything was perfect, Jin started walking downstairs to meet his mom. Downstairs, Hani has already left breakfast on the table and is waiting for Jin. "C'mon my son. Let's eat your breakfast" Hani said softly. Jin just smiled and walked over to the dining table. "What will you be training today son" Hani asked. Jin raised his face to look at his mother, wiped his mouth with a towel, and said slowly "Today i will still learn to shoot a gun, besides, i will learn more about potion making". "Oh... that's very good" Hani said with a smile. After saying that Jin stood up and said goodbye to Hani to go to the training place.
After jin left, Hani's phone rang. Hani picks up the phone "Hello?! What happens??". A voice inside the phone rang "Boss... you should go back to Korea. There's someone messing around here that we can't handle!!". Hani let out a long breath after listening and said "Okay I'll go there tonight, you guys can fix it first". "Yes, boss... Do you need us to pick you up at the airport?". Hani said with an emotionless face "No...i don't need". "Yes..boss. Goodbye boss". Leaving the phone on the table, hani sighed, thought "How can I let Jin stay here alone?". Hani is worried for Jin. She doesn't want Jin to wander around when she's not around. Because Hani knows Jin still can't forget the past, he wants to avenge his parents. Hani doesn't want Jin to be sad about it anymore.
Think for a moment, Hani still decided to return to Korea. She can't leave her job there any longer. Hani went upstairs to pack up her luggage and then she called Jin. "Hello? What happens mom?" Jin had just walked in the door of the training ground when the phone rang. "My son, i has to go back to Korea, something has happened. Can you stay here alone?". Jin was sad for a moment but still replied to his mother like nothing happened "Mom...it is okay. I can be alone here...You don't have to worry about me" Hani smiles but still feels worried for Jin, said "Well then, i am back to Korea. Remember to stay and take good care of yourself. Train well and come back to see your mom soon, you know that?!!". Jin smiled and said " I know, you don't have to worry so much, mom. I promise to take care of myself. After the training is over, i will immediately return to Korea to see you. Love you, safe flight and see you in the near future...mom". Hani smiled "Love you too, my lovely son". After talking, both of them hung up the phone to start their own work. Hani got in the car to the airport, Jin started his gun training.
After Hani flew back to Korea, it was time for Jin to come home. Jin entered the dark, empty house, turn on the light and look at the clock "Is it past 12 o'clock at night? Time goes by so fast". Jin feels so empty inside right now. He wishes his mom was here. He is still afraid of this feeling of emptiness. He is afraid of being alone. But all of that Jin doesn't want to tell anyone. Jin is the type of person who is afraid of being alone but likes to be alone, and wants to endure that feeling alone. Is it too contradictory that Jin just wants to be alone when he feels empty? "When before Jin's first friend at the orphanage was adopted, Jin didn't have this feeling either. Now his mom is not with him, nor does he feel empty. So where does this feeling of emptiness come from?"Jin thought. No mother at home, Jin doesn't want to eat anything either. He looked around downstairs for a while then went straight to his bedroom upstairs. Take a shower, step into the bathroom to remove all the fatigue today.
Jin's long day ended with a dream about an old fire. The fire took the lives of Jin's parents. The fire that took away the happy past, the happy family of Jin.
