Elizabeth’s P.O.V

I layed on my bed and looked up at the ceiling. My music was still blaring, just in my headphones now. I rolled over and looked at the clock, it was almost nine. I closed my eyes. “My real voice?” I mumbled, “Is it even mine at this point?” I didn't know. “Is any part of the old me even me anymore?” I wondered. People change, Rosalie was proof of that. So was I. So, was what Rosalie told everyone still true?

Suddenly, I felt a weight on my bed. I looked up, expecting it to be Artie. Instead, I saw Al’s bright blue eyes. He motioned for me to take out my headphones. When I did, Numb by Linkin Park could be heard in the background. Al raised his eyebrow, “How old are you agian?”

“I look eight, but I’m secretly seventy-thousand years old.” I replied in a flat tone. Al rubbed my head, effectively messing up my hair.

“So, whats wrong Dudette?” He asked, “Iggy sounded pretty worried over the phone.”

I put my hand up to move his away and fixed my hair, “Nothing.”

“You're acting like a moody teen.”

“No, I’m a moody seventy-thousand year old. I just said this like thirty seconds ago, weren't you listening?” He laughed and messed my hair up again. I glared at him while I fixed it, “Dude, not cool.” He just laughed and kept talking.

“Really, you can talk to Uncle Al about it.” I looked down.

“Its just some school stuff...” I mumbled.

“What kind of school stuff makes you lock yourself up in your room for about two hours?” He asked.

“Complicated school stuff. You wouldn't get it.” Al poked me in the forehead.

“Come on, you're in the second grade! How complicated can it be that I wouldn't get it?” He asked.

“Its just really complicated! Anyways, its my issue, so you don't hafta worry about it.” I said. Al poked me in the forehead again, “Wouldya stop that!” I said, slapping his hand away.

He smiled, “No, you stop that! You're acting like we’re not family! Come on Elizabeth, you don't have to do everything alone. Believe it or not, people do care about you. Especially one guy who thinks he’s being sneaky hiding outside of the door.” He said jerking his thumb toward the door.

Artie walked in, “Bloody hell Alfred! Why do you only notice things at the worst times?”

Al laughed, “Dude! Its because I’m the hero!” I looked back and forth between the two of them. They were fighting, but it was kind of funny. It was different then when Rosalie and I fought, or me and anyone for that matter. You could tell they were family. And, they were my family. I smiled a little, before jumping on Al.

“Thanks Al.” I whispered, and he smiled. I cleared my throat and practically screamed, “To the batcave!” Al seemed to get it, because he stood up with me on his back and started running. Artie took a second to process what just happened before chasing after us.

“H-hey! Its nearly nine! Don't start anything! She has school tomorrow!” Al did that weird laugh of his and kept running. Soon, I was on the ground running beside him.  Artie chased us around the house until we all collapsed on the couch. I let out a laugh along with Al.

“W-what was the point of that?” Artie asked, trying to catch his breath.

“I dont know. It just seemed like the thing to do.” I said, Al nodded in agreement. We all just sat there for a minute, before Al got up.

“Well, I’m going to go home now. See ya later!” I just nodded at him while he walked out the door. A few seconds of silence passed before I got up.

“I guess I might as well go to sleep now...” I said, turning to move up the stairs.

“Elizabeth.” I turned to look at Artie, “You know you can talk to me about anything, right?” I nodded and moved to go back to my room. “Good night, Elizabeth.”

I stopped with my hand on the banister, “Yeah. Night.”
