"What are you going to do?" Madi asks as I pull my skirt back up. Swimming was our last class and it was definitely what we needed after a hot day. I had skipped the showers this time because a lot of the freshman girls were hogging them to use as their socialization spot.
"If it means Jaque quits being an idiot, I'm for sure filing a police report. There's been so many cases of people dying from laced drugs and I will not stand by and watch my brother kill himself." I say.
I retrieve my backpack and shut my locker. "And your parents are totally oblivious to this?"
"I could go missing for a week and they wouldn't even notice." I roll my eyes.
"I wish my parents didn't care, they're always on my back. You should enjoy it." Madi says as we walk out the back door. There was people already outside walking towards their luxurious cars.
"Trust me, I'm the one who doesn't mind." I direct my attention to Jaque, watching as Aubrey, Esmer and his guy friends whom I did not know the names of, nor did I care surround Thomas and Four.
I watch as they laugh around each other before my gaze falls on Four to see him already watching me with a plain face, blowing smoke away from his lips before he looks away back to the group. "Do you know anymore information about Four?"
"Who?"
"The new guy." I correct myself.
She looks at her phone before she shows me it. On her screen was an Instagram account that apparently belonged to him.
FourH94.
His feed was pictures and videos of him at parties. He doesn't have many followers but I don't think he was on there to prove anything to anybody.
"All I know is what I told you this morning. I love gossip, but there's a limit until it's pure stalking." She says making me laugh. "Anyway, my parents are having date night tonight, want to come over later?"
"Yeah," I agree. "I guess it will distract me from being around Jaque and wanting to murder him. I'm still pretty pissed about this morning."
"Who wouldn't be? That was really fucked up of him to do." Madi says and I nod. My brother was a complete moron. "Well anyway, I'll see you later." She gives my hand a squeeze and leaves in the direction of her car.
I turn my attention back to the group to see them walking away in different directions. I watch as Four makes his way to the parking lot whilst retrieving the keys from his pocket. I take my own phone out and open the Instagram app and quickly search him up. It's weird that his account was just public like nothing, but I guess I can't say much since mine was pretty public too.
He was strange, he definitely didn't blend in with the snobs in this school yet he looked like one in the way he acted. It was almost as if he was trying to fool someone. Just as he drives away, I am being called.
"Clemonte, your car is here." I look around, trying to find Jaque but he was nowhere to be seen. I had a feeling he would come back home late and on something.
—
I spent the rest of my time at home between watching tv shows and taking a bath. I might've also been looking at Four's account for no reason. At around seven thirty, the alarm for the house goes off signaling someone was home. The door to my room was open so when I heard heavy footsteps, I knew it was Jaque.
"And where have you been?" I ask from my bed. His eyes were red signaling he was high on something.
"And where have you been?" He mocks me making me sigh in annoyance. He was for sure loosing brain cells with all that shit he smokes everyday.
"Jaque." I warn, glaring at him from my phone.
"I was at Esmer's with Aubrey and the guys." He admits. "Not doing weed."
"Honestly, you're old enough to realize that what you're doing is stupid. You don't need a babysitter."
"I don't need a babysitter when I have you, mom." He mocks before walking away to his room. "I just came here for a few things, I'm spending the night at Kevin's."
"You do know it's a school night?" I point out and get out of bed. I stop by his doorway. His room was an absolute mess, I was afraid if I entered I'd catch something.
"I'm sorry, do I need permission?"
"Yes!" I exasperate making him roll his eyes and retrieve his phone. I hear him dial a number before it rang, and like always it went straight to voicemail.
"I don't think there's a problem." I watch as he shoved clothes in his backpack after taking out the supplies. He's not worth your time, my subconscious says.
And so I walk away before I lose my head. All over the walls, pictures of Jaque and I from our modeling days that our parents made us do, screamed out close sibling relationship. And we were until now. He's more invested in partying and getting drunk and high to even care that he slipped away.
My parents are to blame.
Madi had said to be at her house by eight thirty so I begin to get dressed in skinny jeans, a tank top and some white chuck taylor's. I hear the front door open and close signaling that Jaque had just walked out.
I walk out soon after and when I reach my car, I see Jaque get in a black car with what I saw was Thomas. "Can't I get a fucking break?" He said he was spending the night at Kevin's. And unless Thomas the drug dealer is driving him there which is very unlikely, I'd say they were going somewhere else.
I didn't think calling the cops on Thomas while my brother was with him, high on weed would result good for him. So I followed, careful enough not to let them catch me.
We drove away from the community where we lived in, passing run down trailer homes before we reached a bunch of abandoned warehouses.
I park behind a graffitied dumpster, noticing how all the warehouses were broken down and graffitied as well. I watch as Thomas and Jaque along with three other guys get off the car and go inside the warehouse.
Once they were out of sight, I drive up slowly before getting out of the car. Never in a million years would I be following someone inside a sketchy place. But of course, my brother would.
I swear, he will get himself killed one day.
I was about to walk towards the door before my arm is being grabbed making me turn, ready to punch whoever it was but they simply catch my fist. "What are you doing?" It was Four, a bandana pushing his hair back.
"Are you following me?"
He let's go of my arm with a furrow of his eyebrows making me stand back. "You're very bad at being discreet while following someone."
"Why did you bring my brother here?" I cross my arms. "Is this some kind of place where you all come to do drugs and get high?"
"Woah, relax. It's just a party." He takes out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and lights one making me cringe. "It has no nicotine. It's for quitting." He says, noticing that I watched him with disgust.
"Who party's on a Monday night?" I ask, clearly confused. "And if it's a party, why are you out here and not in there?"
"You ask so many questions." He ignores me before pushing me back, trying to get me back inside my car.
"Don't touch me." I say, pushing his hand away.
"You need to leave." He says opening my car door and pushing me inside anyway. If it's a party, why does he want me to leave? What the hell's going on in there?
"I'm not leaving here without my brother." I remark, standing my ground but he only shuts my door making me lower the window. I notice a guy walking towards us.
"He'll be fine, just go." He says before walking away towards the guy, I noticed they both had sleeves of tattoos making me higher up my window.
Four takes the guy back inside, but before he could follow he turns back, giving me a stare as in telling me to leave. When he shuts the door, I hesitate before driving away.
Whatever that place is, there is something going on in there that they don't want me to either see or hear. I quickly save the location on my phone before putting Madi's location and driving there.
