WRITING TASK 1

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

The diagram below shows the life cycle of a salmon, from egg to adult fish.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

You should write at least 150 words.

ANSWER:

The given diagram illustrates a salmon's cycle of life, ever since the egg period until it becomes a fully-grown fish. According to the information shown in the diagram, a salmon's life begins in a river, and the process of maturation occurs in the ocean.

Salmon eggs incubation happens in rivers, and after that, baby salmon emerge and truly start their life as fish. In this early stage of life, salmon are reared in the environment of freshwater in rivers – their birth location. As salmon grow, they move towards estuary, and there they prepare themselves for the next chapter of life.

The second part of salmon's life is spent in the ocean, as they migrate to new rearing areas. Here continues the process of growth and maturation. When salmon are perfectly developed, they begin another migration journey to their appropriate spawning areas in rivers, where the reproduction takes place.

Overall, the life of salmon happens mainly in two locations: rivers and the ocean.

WRITING TASK 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic.

In many countries, a small number of people earn extremely high salaries. Some people believe that this is good for the country, but others think that governments should not allow salaries above a certain level.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

ANSWER:

In some countries exists a phenomenon when a minor number of people have outrageously high income. Some are in the belief that this does the country good, whereas others suggest that governments take measures and set a limit for salaries. I am of the opinion that the social gap created by income differences can be a force for a country to develop, as it forms a challenging market for people to compete in.

There are some convincing arguments that lead to people's hope to maintain salaries under a certain level. The limitation can also be a tool to erase discrimination against people of the lower class of our society, and furthermore it may help uniting different societal groups and build a more equal world. For example, when there is no great dissimilarity in the earnings of everyone, their life quality will not have too much contrast and there is a likelihood that it is easier for an understanding to be formed among them.

Luxurious lives of those who earn an impressive amount of money can be the amazing goal and motivation for the rest to keep making attempts so as to thrive. To earn as much as they do, they had to do a lot fight and sacrifice, and they deserve it. The rich can be role models for the society and help improve the economy. For example, when they have gained enough experience, they can write books, give speeches in order to share their methods with others as well. This can be a powerful source of inspirations and the push that our society needs to move forward.

In short, setting a limit to salaries may establish some equality, but it sets limits to the growth as well. Those who devoted a lot to their career should be able to earn as much as they produce, as it can help create the amazing atmosphere of work spirits and take mankind to the peak of development.
