Part 27 Jealousy

"I'm going to resign from my job," Arnav said.

Arvind was shocked. He could not believe Arnav made such a decision because he knew what this job meant to Arnav. Did he decide to resign from his job?

As there was a silence on the other side, Arnav asked,

"Papa, are you there?"

"But, Chotte, is it necessary?"

"Do you think it's not?"

Arvind was stuck.

"No, I didn't mean it. However, Khushi will have to complete her Master's, and it will take two years. You can be a professor till then. After she finishes the Master's, you can continue your job. Then who will question you?"

"Papa, I don't make decisions according to others, but my mindset. I don't care who questions me but my mind. I want to live a peaceful life. If my mind questions me, I can't be peaceful because I have my personal rules. I don't want to marry my student. It's my rule and I can't change it."

"What will you do after resigning from your job?"

"I have three months. I can't resign right away. I can be relieved from my job only after three months have passed since submitting my resignation. Before that, I will search for a job."

"Does Khushi know your decision?"

"No... I don't want her to know that. She will feel bad for being the reason for my decision."

"However, she will get to know that one day..."

"I will manage at that time."

"Does she know you are ready to accept her?"

"I didn't tell her that verbally..."

"Verbally? Means?"

Arnav was stuck. He hugged her, kissed her forehead, and could he tell his father about him?

"My changed behaviour might have made her understand that," he said.

"She must be on cloud nine..."

"Mmm..." Arnav smiled.

"When are you going to tell her?"

"After quitting from the job..."

"Mmm..."

"I hope you are not upset with me..."

"Not at all. We should lose something to get something, and Khushi is worth it..."

"Thank you for understanding me, Papa."

"Who would understand you if I don't? I'm glad you finally accepted Khushi. She is a nice girl."

"Mmm... When will you come to Dehradun again?"

"I will try to come soon to meet my daughter-in-law, who flatted my son," he chuckled, and Arnav smiled.

He didn't let Khushi know his decision, and he had a reason for that. If she got to know that he was ready to marry him, he didn't know how she would react to it. Though she would not be fine with his decision, she might feel like the world was under her feet on the other side. Then no one could control her. he smiled.

The next day

Arnav went to the principal's room, who sat straight up seeing Arnav.

"Good morning, sir"

"Good morning, Arnav. Take your seat"

Arnav sat in front of him and gave him a white cover. The Principal looked at the cover and then at Arnav.

"What's this, Arnav?" he took it from him and removed the paper from it.

Arnav waited until he read it. The Principal looked at him in shock.

"What's this?"

"My resignation, sir?"

"But why did you make such a decision?"

"Just feel like resigning, sir"

"Arnav, just because Seema tried to spoil your name, please don't decide this. I don't want to lose a loyal Professor like you."

"You are telling me LOYAL now, but you didn't trust me when Seema accused me, sir..." he said plainly.

"It's not like that, Arnav. I thought no woman would lie in that matter."

"You are right, sir. I would have thought the same if I were in your place. After facing such a drastic incident, I don't feel like staying in this job."

"But, you worshipped this job..."

"But not everyone around me is the same as me."

"Arnav..."

"Please, sir, accept my resignation." He stood up.

The Principal gulped hard and nodded, having no chance.

"Thank you, sir," Arnav said, and then walked out.

He noticed students gathered in front of the notice board. He called the peon who passed by.

"What's the matter?"

"They are looking at a notice about the Founder's Day, sir."

Arnav rolled his eyes. He thought of finishing the portions before leaving the college. But it didn't happen, it seemed. The founder's day would take a week. No one would be in class. He sighed wearily. He slowed down his steps, seeing Khushi amid the students' crowd. She smiled at Karan, who was standing behind her so close. She emerged from the crowd, and Karan followed her. He was telling her something, and she listened intently, her excitement evident. Her facial expression told him that.

She looked at Arnav and was stuck. She stood looking at him. Arnav expected her to come to him. Seeing his sharp gaze, she excused herself from Karan and came to him. She stood before him.

"Are you feeling all right?"

She nodded.

"What's happening there?"

"It's about founder's day."

"Oh..."

"Karan said he is going to dance."

"Oh... do you dance?"

"I'm a good dancer..."

"Really?" He raised his brows.

She nodded.

"Are you going to dance?"

Khushi was stuck. She didn't have such an idea because she didn't want to embarrass Arnav. After all, everyone knew their relationship status. More than that, they just got rid of Seema's issue. That brought everyone's attention towards them. Vibhavi, like people, would be waiting for them to make mistakes to mock. She didn't want to give them a chance. So, she nodded no.

"Why? Aren't you interested?"

She shrugged her shoulders.

"Did you have medicine?"

She bit her tongue and nodded no.

"Why are you so careless? Just because you feel better, would you stop taking medicines?"

"I... forgot it..."

"This is not done. If I had known you did this, I would have kept your medicines with me."

Khushi smiled mildly, seeing his concern.

"I will take it tonight...trust me..."

"Mmm..." He walked.

"Arnie..." She called.

"Mmm?"

"Are you showing concern just because I'm your student?" She asked hesitatingly.

"Then what?" He asked with a serious expression.

She nodded her head and pouted. Arnav left the place smiling inwardly.

........

Arnav came to Khushi's class and saw Karan asking Khushi something, holding her hand. No, it didn't seem like asking her, but forcing her to do something. Varanv didn't like to see her hand in someone's clutch. He stood glaring at Karan. Seeing Arnav, Karan stood straight, leaving Khushi's hand.

"What's happening here?" He asked rigidly.

"Sir, Khushi told me she dances well. I said that to Karan. So, he wanted her to perform in the Founder's Day program, but Khushi is not ready to dance." Jane said.

"If she is not interested, why are you forcing her? Forcing anyone who is not interested to do something is not right. Don't you know that? What did you learn in the Students' Welfare Club?" Arnav chided Karan.

"I didn't force her, but requested her, sir"

"How? By clutching her hand?" he tried not to show his anger.

"I have no pair to dance with, sir. That's why..." he said in a low tone.

Arnav was shocked. PAIR? Didn't he know what the PAIR meant? He had already seen Karan's dance performance in last year's Annual Day function. His dance steps were so close to his partner. He was glad as Khushi was not interested in dancing.

"Do you want to dance?" he asked Khushi, who sensed the difference in his tone. When he asked her the same in the morning, he sounded soft, but now, his tone was rigid. Yet, she didn't think it was jealousy.

She nodded no, hurriedly, even though she had already told him her decision.

"She had a high fever yesterday, and you want her to dance today..." He chided Karan, which made the students awestruck, but Khushi didn't take it deeply. Didn't he tell her that he was concerned only because she was his student? Then what was there to get excited about?

"Listen. I don't care how many of you are going to attend my class, but I'm not going to stop teaching. I'm planning to complete my portions in three months. Those who are interested can attend AT LEAST( he stressed) my classes. Is that clear?"

"Yes, sir..." the students chorused.

Arnav started a new lesson while noticing Khushi, who looked gloomy. He knew the reason. It was because of his answer about his concern. He smiled inwardly.

His period was over. Arnav came out of the class and gestured for Khushi to come to him. She went to him.

"Stay away from Karan. Don't agree if he wants you to be his partner. Is that clear?"

Khushi was surprised by his order.

"Why?" she intentionally asked, as she hoped, something NEW in his gesture.

"I had seen his dance already. It would be intimate. Do you want to be his partner?"

She nodded no hurriedly, and she felt it as a professor's concern. So, there was nothing to get hope. He left the place feeling relieved.

Students started discussing the Founder's Day program.

That was when Arjun came to Khushi and asked,

"Is it true that Arnav sir is resigning from his job?"

Khushi was horrified to hear that.

"Resigning? Who said?"

"My reliable source told me."

"Is it true?"

Arjun nodded yes. Khushi was shocked. She didn't know why Arnav decided to quit the job. At the same time, the bell rang. She rushed out to meet him.

To be continued...
