30Who is Khushi?
Part 30: Who is Khushi?
"They are her parents. They are no more." Maria said, shocking Arnav.
He looked at Khushi with the same shock.
"She is an orphan who has no one for herself." She added.
Khushi's eyes teared up, hearing the word ORPHAN.
"Is it true?" Arnav asked. Disbelief was evident in his tone.
Khushi was silent. he held her upper arm and shook her.
"Tell me, Khushi... is it true? Don't you have anyone?"
She nodded yes. A lonely tear rolled down her face.
"When we met in Nainital, you said your parents went to KAILASH and they didn't want to take you with them because you were a small girl..." he stopped, understanding the meaning of the word.
"Did you say that in this meaning only? This is why you said they WENT TO KAILASH?"
She nodded yes. He was taken aback and shattered knowing the truth.
"They went to God... that's why I said they went to Kailash..." she said painfully.
Maria silently left the place.
"Why didn't you tell me about them?"
"What would you have done if I had told you?"
Arnav was stuck. What would he have done even if she had told him?
"You were so firm in your decision not to accept my proposal. You might have thought I was playing a sympathy card. That's why I didn't tell you," she said, wiping her tears.
"If you have no one, why did you come to Nainital? For what purpose? At least now, tell me without hiding anything from me," he asked with concern.
"It's because somebody chased me..." She said, blinking slowly.
"Chased? Who are they?"
"The ones from whom you saved me."
"You said they were searching for you because you are a GIRL. Aren't they unknown goons to you?"
She nodded no.
"I know them. They came to Nainital specifically to find me. That was why they searched me in the lodge we stayed in and asked about me to the lodge guy."
"Why did they search for you? What do they want from you?"
"For my property..."
"Property? Do you have?" he raised his brows.
She nodded yes.
"My father's friend became my guardian after my parents' demise. He showered love on me until I completed my graduation. Then he slowly began asking me to marry his son, but I don't like him..."
"Why?" he asked, cutting her off.
"He is an irresponsible guy. He failed in twelfth standard. He took three years to complete it. Then he joined college. He didn't even pass in a single paper. He flirted with all the girls. He hadn't been in the good books of anyone in our college. I don't like him even a bit." Dislike was visible in her voice.
"Didn't you tell his father about him?"
"I told him numerous times. He didn't care about it. Then, I only found out that he already knew about his son. He was particularly keen on my property. So, he didn't listen to me but kept on trying to manipulate me. At some point, I shouted at him and told him not to talk about marrying him. He planned to get me married to his son without my acceptance. So, I tried to escape from him. They chased me. I got into the bus that crossed my path. I didn't know where the bus was heading until the conductor told me. That was how I reached Nainital. My Property was my enemy..."
"How did you know about your property details? Did your parents tell you about it?" Arnav asked.
"No... my father's lawyer told me about it."
"Why didn't you get the lawyer's help to stop your father's friend?" Arnav said thoughtfully.
"The lawyer is the one who wants me to marry his son..."
"Whaaat?" Arnav was shocked.
"Yes, he is my father's friend and also my father's lawyer."
"Would he still be searching for you?" he asked her, his doubt.
"He would have been... no doubt." She said confidently.
"How long will you be hiding here? Why should you be hiding? It's your property. Your rights..."
"I had no guts to face him. He will not leave me without getting them married to his son. I can face him off only after my marriage. In fact, I'm not interested in the property. I just want a peaceful life. At the same time, I don't want our property to fall into the wrong hands. It's my father's hard work. I want the property to benefit those in need. That was my father's wish, too."
"What are you going to do?" he sounded soft like hell.
She nodded no.
"Don't think you have no one. And don't you dare think of yourself as an orphan. Until Arnav is alive, you are not. I'm here for you."
Khushi's eyes teared up. He touched her cheek and wiped her tears with his thumb. She held his hand and cried.
"Shhh... don't cry. We will handle them together. Ok?"
She nodded, smiling with tears.
"How did your parents die?"
"In an accident..." she choked.
"Was that really an accident?" he raised a question, and that was valid. Anyone would think the same after knowing her father's lawyer friend's greed.
"I, too, have the doubt. After seeing his Obsession with my property, I often think he might have killed my parents and framed it as an accident."
"When did they die?"
"When I studied UG second year."
Arnav became thoughtful.
"Did your father write a WILL about his property?"
Khushi nodded yes.
"I would have the right on my property only after my marriage. After my marriage, only I can sell or make any decision on my property with my husband's consent."
"Why did your father write such a will when you are his only daughter?"
"My father had many life threats... he escaped from a few attempts, too. So, he decided to write a will, and his lawyer friend guided him through the process."
"I have no doubt. It was your father's lawyer friend who was behind your parents' demise. He intentionally asked him to write a will that included your husband. So that he could get the property by getting his son married to you." Arnav guessed.
Khushi nodded yes.
"That was his exact plan. As I denied marrying his son, he decided to get me married to him without my acceptance. I got to know his plan and escaped from him."
"It seems he has a gang that follows his words blindly. Then, how did you escape from them?"
"You are right. He manipulated everyone with money. However, Maria, like servants, is loyal to my family. They helped me to escape from his clutch. The driver who brought me from the college when I had a fever is one of them. Bheem Bhaia."
"Is he watching you?"
She nodded yes.
"That means, is Bheem in Dehradun?"
"Mmm..."
"If it is so, why didn't he save you from the goons when they chased you?"
"Before he did that, you saved me. If you had not done that, he would have done that..."
"Are you sure?"
"Mmm..."
"That means, they followed us and watched us..."
She nodded yes.
Arnav thought deeply.
"Did you purposely choose our college knowing that I'm a professor there?"
"No... when I joined the college, I didn't know you were a professor there, but Bheem bhaiya knows. I got to know that recently. After you left me in Delhi, I didn't go to my house; instead, I went to Mumbai because I didn't like to be in India. I was planning to go abroad. After a few days, Bheem Bhaiya came to Mumbai and told me to shift to Dehradun. I was fed up because I didn't like roaming without a firm foundation. He and Maria pleaded with me not to leave India and asked me to join a Master's program in our college. I could not defy them. He was the one who admitted me to the college. I didn't know why he was so interested in joining me at the college in Dehradun. I got my answer when I saw you as a professor there. When I told him about you, he didn't react much. But when I had a fever to save you from Seema's conspiracy, he admitted that he wanted me to join our college only because you are here, because he thought you would protect me if you were with me."
"Is it all his plan?"
She nodded.
"Yes, when you dropped me off at the bus and left me alone, Bheem Bhaiya followed you without your knowledge and found out your whereabouts. He found out that you are working in a college as a professor. So, he shifted me to Dehradun and brought Maria here for my help."
"Where is he?"
"He is in the next house."
"Next house? But why?"
"He didn't want you to think I have protection."
They heard a footstep. Arnav looked behind and found a man in his late thirties standing.
"Bheem Bhaiya..." Khushi introduced him. He didn't match his name, Bheem. He looked normal.
"Namaste, sir..." Bheem greeted him.
"So, you planned everything...?"
"Please don't mistake us, sir. We want our Madam to be in safer hands, even after our lifetime. That's why I followed you to know your whereabouts. When I saw you fighting with the goons, I decided you were the right person to protect our Madam. And when I found out you are a college professor, we are satisfied. Please accept our Madam, sir. We don't know when that scoundrel Vishvesh Sharma will surround her. If he found her this time, he would definitely get her married to his son forcefully." He pleaded.
"Until I'm here, he will not do that. I will not let him do that. Khushi is my responsibility." Arnav said.
"He decided to resign from his job..." Khushi said smilingly.
Maria and Bheem's faces lit up.
"Thank you so much, sir..." Bheem tried to touch his feet, but Arnav stopped, jerking.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
"You have no idea how relieved we are... We were waiting to hear this from you, sir."
Arnav looked at Khushi, who was emotional.
"Take care of her. Call me if emergency." Arnav said.
Bheem nodded.
"Let's go to the college..." Arnav said.
Khushi nodded and went to her room to get ready.
"Thank you so much for being with Khushi. If you guys were not for her, I don't know what she would have done."
"Sir, her father had done much more for our families. We can never compensate for it. Shashi sir is a nice person. He trusted everyone around him. So did Vishvesh Sharma. But, he was a snake who swallowed the one who supported him."
"Where is he? What's his current status?"
"He is in Delhi, searching for our Madam, but we can't be relaxing. He will find her, however. He won't give up on her property easily. Until Madam gets married, he won't be quiet..."
"Let him come..." Varna said.
Maria and Bheem looked at each other.
"Then only we can finish the game... without facing him off, we can't do that, right?"
"You are right, but you can OFF them by marrying our Madam."
"I submitted my resignation to the principal. It will take three months for me to get it sanctioned. We have to wait till then."
Bheem nodded delightedly.
Khushi came there, getting ready for college.
"We are leaving..." Khushi said and walked with Arnav.
Bheem looked at Maria and asked,
"Did Arnav, sir, know the worth of our Madam's property?"
Maria nodded no. Bheem sighed.
Arnav started the car. He saw Khushi silent.
"Are you alright?"
She nodded yes, smilingly.
"Don't be scared of your uncle."
"I'm not afraid of him, now..."
"Is it?"
"Mmm... After all, you are with me..."
He smiled.
"Shall I ask you something?" she asked hesitatingly.
"Of course, you can ask me anything."
"Will you shift to Delhi after our marriage?"
Arnav looked at her, frowning.
"Do you want us to settle down in Delhi?"
She nodded yes.
"Delhi is not new to me. I completed my graduation there only."
"I want your help to manage my father's property. I don't think I can do it alone..."
"Mmm... we will do that if needed."
"Won't you ask me about the worth of my property?"
"Let me guess... one or two crore?"
She nodded no.
"Thousand crores..."
Arnav pressed the brake and looked at her shockingly.
To be continued...
