Chapter Sixty Five: The End of an Era
Spring had fallen upon the yellow house pack, the university year coming to a close alongside the changing season. Many of the housemates would be entering the final year of studies and Daichi, with the help of Ukai, ensured that the group would be housed together the following year-- this time in a blue residence that was better suited for their large pack.
As group stood out front of their familiar home, the sun warming their skin in the late afternoon, they chatted amongst themselves in the front yard, happy that their finals were over and done with. Still, their days as members of the yellow house were finished and many were saddened by the ending of the era. They had gone through so much together, grown as people , not just as Alphas or Omegas. Many of them had faced deep fears and complicated emotions, and had triumphed, all thanks to the unwitting community that they had built together.
The strange pack, even the stalwart members like Tsukishima and Tobio, knew that the bond they held would never waver. They were brothers and sisters, all of them, and that gave them the foundations to do something great for the world-- to change it for the better.
Location didn't matter, be it the yellow house, a brick library, or an oceanside park, the chord that fastened them would remain strong. They would always be there for one another.
"Everyone!" Miyo called, gesturing wildly, in Miyo fashion, to gather the group's attention. "Photo time, let's move, c'mon! Tsukishima, don't you dare roll your eyes at me!"
The packmates slowly ceased their chatter and pushed together, some next to their mates, others squished between friends. Nishinoya and Shoyo were smiling wickedly, on the shoulders of their Alpha suitors at the back of the group, Next to them, Tanka posed in a joking fashion, with his hands around Kuroo's waist, pretending that he was the third mate to the rooster his cat. Out in front, Suga, Oikawa, and Keiji stood with their arms linked together like brothers-- their three mates doing the same behind. Yuji grinned like a devil on the left, his arms draped over Yachi as she smiled sweetly at the camera in Miyo's hands.
"Ukai, get in there!" Miyo barked, jerking a head towards the happy group. The professor rolled his eyes, then smirked and eagerly joined in Tanaka's joke, cuddling into Kuroo from the other side-- much to the rooster's chagrin. Miyo smiled as she looked through the viewfinder of her camera, they looked like a family. "Okay, everybody smile now!"
She didn't need to say it-- everybody already was.
Clicking the camera, she sealed away the memory for eternity-- the flash as bright as the group's future. They were going to change society for the better, everyone could feel it in their bones.
Epilogues (Some long, some short and sweet).
Tsukishima & Yamaguchi
Tsukishima invested in his own mind and amassed a lucrative business empire shortly after graduation. While he was quick to develop a fortune, he found his love life somewhat lacking-- not that he really cared. Unlike the other Alphas in his pack, he fought against his feelings and desires for Yamaguchi for several years, instead focusing his energy on the things he knew best-- science, logic, and economics. Regardless of his life choices, he couldn't help himself from keeping an eye on the freckled boy, albeit, from afar. He employed many private eyes over the years to do so, even going so far as to sabotage any Alpha that dared show interest in the Omega.
Yamaguchi did not hold out hope that he and Tsukishima would ever be together. He had felt the internal connection, the bond between them, but he also understood that the blonde Alpha would fight against it with all his might. Thus, Yamaguchi was forced to come to terms with his lot in life-- he would forever be a single Omega that had been rejected by his true mate. He truly had no interest in finding another Alpha, not that it stopped them from trying to court him. Instead, he focused all of his energy on his nursing job and thoughts of Tsukishima only occurred in his dreams.
Seven years after his graduation from University, Tsukishima finally acknowledged the gnawing feeling that had been permeating his being for nearly a decade. He implicitly knew that something was missing in his life, but he couldn't seem to put a finger on it. As a man of logic, this greatly bothered him, and so he spoke with Bokuto, a loyal employee and an old friend. The two talked late into the evening and, after more than a few drinks, Tsukishima retired to his home with a terrible knot in his stomach. He could not bring himself to leave his flat for a several days, stewing in his thoughts of Yamaguchi. It took a week of sleepless nights, and many heated conversations with Ukai, Miyo, and Kuroo, for him to accept the reality of his situation...
He had starved himself of the love of a mate-- the love of a freckled Omega that meant everything to him. He never believed that people, Alphas and Omegas alike, truly needed a partner in life, so it was always something that he had denied himself. In more ways than one, he had denied Yamaguchi of it, as well.
In that moment, after two weeks of self-reflection, Tsukishima finally snapped. He called up his P.I in the middle of the night, demanding to know the whereabouts of Yamaguchi from the disoriented woman. The two University housemates were finally reunited, with Tsukishima standing, rain-drenched, on the freckled Omega's doorstep. A passionate night of knotting and expression of deep feelings followed, and the two welcomed a baby girl to their new family nine months later-- a joyous accident. Now, Tsukishima walks into his glass office building with a freckled child strapped to his chest and a coy smile on his stiff face.
Oikawa & Hajime
Oikawa joined Suga in founding the Omega Support Agency . With the financial backing of Tsukishima, the O.S.A. was able to make great strides in opening previously closed doors for Omegas all over Japan. Though the agency is still in its infancy, it has garnered international attention for its forward-thinking policies.
Hajime and Oikawa started their family early, a happy accident for them both. Hajime volunteers much of his time to the O.S.A., when he's not taking care of his children-- three very difficult and rambunctious boys, all of which have shown early signs of Alphadom.
Both Oikawa and Hajime have not forgotten Hamoto's words to them, all those years ago in the shotty farmhouse. They keep a go-bag in their closet, ready to drop everything at a moments notice should things go south-- either for them, or for Suga and Daichi, their trusted friends.
Yachi & Yuji
Despite the progress she made, Yachi spent many years repairing her damaged mind with the help of professionals and the support of her pack. Yuji remained by her side, patient as ever. Seven years after graduation, she has made great strides and considers her current self the strongest version-- Yachi 2.0. She has come to believe that her previous struggles made her a more introspective and joyous person, both inside and out. Much of her free time was spent writing-- a coping mechanism that she developed early on in her therapy. Fortunately, she was able to consolidate her various musings into screenplays, all centered around Omega protagonists. Recently, her works have done leaps and bounds for the world of cinema, forcing the Alpha dominated industry to realize that there is a lot of money to be made in Omega-driven films.
Yuji was hired on at the University of Tokyo as an assistant coach for their male volleyball team and spent much of his time developing an Omega athletic program. While he initially desired to create one where both Alphas and Omegas could play together, he soon realized that it was an impossible task given the current state of the world. Thus, he spends much of his time fighting for Omega rights at the University level, demanding that they have equal access to scholarships and sports programs.
The two mates have recently discussed starting a family, with Yuji secretly hoping for an Omega daughter-- one who might grow up to be as strong as her mother.
Shoyo & Tobio
Shoyo and Tobio's odd relationship flourished throughout their later University years, with Shoyo pestering the sullen setter day in and out. Though their partnership was initially rejected by Tobio's well-off Alpha parents, Shoyo's persistence and pure personality eventually won the stern family over. With parental blessings, the two boys married shortly after graduation and started on their own family in earnest.
Shoyo volunteers much of his time to the O.S.A., while Tobio has gone on to play volleyball on the Japanese Olympic team, leading them to a silver medal as a player, and to bronze as a coach. Influenced by their four rambunctious children, the two boys have started a dialogue between the government and the O.S.A. to create a new youth education program-- one that would not separate Omegas and Alphas in different institutions. While the new school system is still in its infancy, Shoyo and Tobio are thrilled to be involved in the process and are holding out hope that the lives of their children and future grandchildren will be improved by the change.
Asahi & Nishinoya
Asahi and Nishinoya married shortly after graduation, the small ceremony was held on Asahi's family orchard. The pair eventually moved in with Asahi's family, building a house on a section of the vast acres of land.
They do their best to volunteer time to the O.S.A., though much of their days are spent maintaining the orchards and the popular vineyard attached. Recently, they have begun to discuss having children, with Asahi overly thrilled by the idea of a plump Nishinoyo-- a slowed down version of the rambunctious Omega.
Keiji & Bokuto
Bokuto graduated from university and immediately began work as Tsukishima's right hand man, while Keiji pursued a secondary degree, wanting to follow in Miyo's footsteps as a professor.
Bokuto spends much of his time overseeing relations and financial support between the O.S.A. and Tsukishima's company. Recently, the two mates were startled by an unexpected pregnancy-- a little girl that Bokuto is adamant will become a volleyball superstar.
Seven years since graduation, Keiji spends his evenings decorating their nursery, winding down after a hard day of Omega anthropology lectures at one of Tokyo's most prestigious Alpha Universities. Bokuto occasionally helps, when his mate isn't chastising him into a pouty mood for his sloppy painting skills.
Tanaka
Tanaka took up work for Suga's non-proft organization, wanting to see the lives of his omega packmates improved. He is a loyal member of the team and is the Alpha face of the company-- his uncaring and unbiased disposition doing well to ease tensions between the two groups.
As the only member of the pack that went untouched by the natural mate phenomenon, Tanaka came to desire the kind of relationship that surrounded him. He wanted to find an Omega of his own, why had his natural mate not shown themselves? He pondered the question one evening, a few years after graduation. As he mused, a familiar face began to pop up inside of his mind-- sporadic at first, no more than a flickering image, but it soon steadied. Tanaka had sucked in a breath when it had. The nurse, the one he had seen in the early days of his pack, he could almost smell her floral scent.
From that moment on, Tanaka couldn't keep her from his mind. Eventually, he sought her out and, in Tanaka fashion, began to impishly pester the Omega. He sought her out more when he realized that she was his natural mate, oftentimes breaking the rules of the Omega hospital just to see her. Luckily for him, Kiyoko eventually came to reciprocate the overbearing affections, though she vehemently denies that it is a result of them being natural mates.
Tanaka disagrees and, while he is overjoyed to be with the beautiful nurse, he thanks his lucky stars every day for the natural mate phenomenon-- even if his partner spends most of her time putting up with his antics.
Miyo & Ukai
The two professors continued teaching, doing their best to open the minds of their students to a new world in which Omegas and Alphas had equal access to basic rights. When asked why they had yet to start a family, they stated that they already had enough children to take care of-- the members of the yellow-house pack were more than enough for them to handle.
Kabuto
Kabuto never spoke to Oikawa, or any of the yellow house members, again. He improved upon his branch of the Yakuza, even going so far as to revamp their structure to better protect Omega sex-workers in their clubs. Rather than using Omegas until they were shells of themselves, Kabuto decided to invest in them, keeping them safe from harm as he would with any other product.
One evening, he was overseeing an important "commodity" deal when he smelled something enticing drift across the bar. It took him all night to locate the source inside the crowded building-- a slender woman with raven coloured hair and the fragrance of an orchard. Her name was Maya, and the moment he set eyes on her, he was completely and utterly infatuated. He had to have her, because he knew, somewhere deep inside of his soul, that she belonged to him.
For years, Oikawa had plagued his thoughts as the one that got away, but after seeing the feminine Omega, Oikawa was wiped from his mind. The emotions he felt towards Maya were complex and frustrating-- challenging his every notion of Omegas. He had always seem them, and people in general, as a means to an end-- a product that could be used and discarded in the name of money. Even his relationship with Oikawa, an Omega that he had truly come to love, was approached as a transaction.
Maya was different. Kabuto wanted to protect her, and the things that she held dear, simply because he instinctively felt the need to do so. It was a foreign concept for him, one that shook up his entire way of life from the moment her scent first struck his senses.
The only problem was that Maya hated him-- detested everything about him and his way of life. The few words he had shared with her, the evening he had met her in the club, had left him disheartened. He was navigating completely new territory, feeling that the woman implicitly belonged to him, and yet, she didn't seem to have the same emotions in return. Her disdain for his kind, for the Yakuza, was so prominent that he thought she might slit his throat in his sleep if they ever coupled up.
Still, his instincts nagged at him to find a way to make her his. So, he began to follow her from afar. At first, he did so a few times a week, but the more he smelled her apple scent, the more he needed to keep his eyes on her. Eventually, he stopped trying to remain inconspicuous in his stalking, wanting every Alpha in the vicinity to notice him so that they knew the woman was off limits.
In following her, he learned two things. First, Maya was a strong woman, both in attitude and spirit. In fact, a lot of her mannerisms reminded him of Oikawa-- something which made him very, very wary. If she was like the chestnut Omega, then she would lure trouble her way like a fly to honey.
Second, she somehow had relations with Hajime, which irked Kabuto to no end. Hajime had already stolen Oikawa out from under him and, while he knew that it was irrational, his instincts feared that the same thing was going to happen again.
Three months after his initial encounter with the apple Omega, he was shocked to find her on the front porch of his Yakuza den. Her arms were crossed over her ample bust and her foot tapped furiously on the wooden boards of the veranda.
They exchanged words, mostly about her displeasure of him butting into her life. Yet, Kabuto picked up hints of attraction on her enticing scent and it was more than enough to embolden his actions. He cut her ranting short and told her everything he was feeling-- never being one for beating around the bush. To his surprise, Maya sighed and admitted the same. Then, the conversation took a turn that he did not expect...
Maya told him of natural mates, of Suga and Daichi, and the go-bag that Oikawa had employed him to make. Kabuto's interactions with Suga, while brief, were enough to mutate his inner Alpha, just as Maya's interactions with the yellow house members had for her Omega.
Forced to acknowledge their mutual attraction for each other, the two decided to pursue a tentative relationship, with Maya eventually taking the reigns of all dealings with Omegas. Kabuto never caused a fuss over this, believing that there was no harm in giving the disenfranchised class more agency. Sex-work was a profession as old as time, and it wasn't going anywhere-- something which the two of them understood, having both been involved in the world of it for some time. Rather than fighting against those Omegas who chose to sell their bodies, they decided that it would be better to improve the safety and conditions of them, instead.
In this way, their actions were helping to mend the difficult landscape for Omegas, just as much as the O.S.A was-- albeit, through more underground channels.
Kenma & Kuroo
Kenma and Kuroo married while Kenma was still in University, having been in a relationship since their teen years. Kenma continued his gaming hobby post-grad, quickly landing a professional gig. When their family expanded, Kuroo decided that it would be best for him to stay home and raise their two children, and Alpha and an Omega, while Kenma continued to work in the gaming industry.
The two mates have become serious backers for the O.S.A. in recent years, with Kuroo volunteering much of his time to the organization and Kenma donating large portions of his earnings each year. They live in a large flat on the highest level of their building in inner Tokyo and their expansive place is often used to host get together for their pack. Kenma chose the modern home, of course-- a cat drawn to the highest branches of a cat tree.
Daichi & Sugawara
Suga and Daichi are the founders of the O.S.A. and have dedicated their lives to its cause. They have put the idea of children and a family on the back burner, too busy with their professional lives. The two boys also knew that they bore a heavy cross-- their go bags were always ready and packed so that they might flee on a moments notice.
Daichi did not want to bring a child into such a life, and Suga agreed. Though, it did not take the idea completely off the table, merely stalled it for a time. They were content, giving all of their energy to the O.S.A... and to babysitting the various children of the pack.
In fact, much like the professors, Daichi and Suga had become the 'parents' of the bunch-- the kind that you dump your child for an afternoon, or a weekend. Or, in Oikawa and Hajime's case, for an entire week-- wanting to escape their three Alpha boys and the hurricane that came with them.
Suga complained about the caretaking a lot, but he secretly enjoyed it-- loved his growing flock like the sugar momma he was. Daichi was of the same mentality, a paternal figure that was more stern that his professor counterpart. The one you would seek out for more serious advise.
In reality, Miyo and Ukai were the wild aunt and uncle, Daichi and Suga were the overbearing grandparents.
The four of them were the pillars of the group and Daichi and Suga were happy for the role. They had each other, they had their pack, and they had a world ahead of them to change.
