Day 8 & 9: My precious star

ScytheSkyler

The cold winter had arrived in Casterfil. In the middle of a green meadow, two shadows stood next to a telescope, whispered.

"Father? I saw a bright red circle on the sky. Can you tell me what is it?" A child voiced up while scoping into the night.

"That, my dear, it's the Betelgeuse, one of the biggest star in the Orion constellation. If you move southwest, you will see the bright blue-white Rigel." His father explained.

"I saw it! It's so beautiful! I even saw three stars on a line!" The child replied awe-inspiringly.

"Those are the stars that created the Orion's belt" the man drew on to a piece of paper and showed his daughter under the flashlight.

"Oh, so that's how it looked. This is so fun dad! I wish you would bring me out star gazing more!" The girl looked at her father with eyes like the stars.

"I will, my little girl." Her father kissed on top of her head "Till the day I become one with the star"

"What did you mean by 'Become one with the star'?" The girl confused

He chuckled as he pointed up the sky.

"You see those sparkling light, Lily? They said each dot represents a beautiful soul which had left this life and chosen to be part of the wonderful constellation above. They will always be watching and praying you from up above. And someday I'll be there too."

"Like mother?"

"Yes, like her, my little one"

"You'll leave me too? Who will I sit with and show me the sky above like you do?" She held her father's hand tightly as she looked up

There was silence before he pulled her to his chest.

"Darling, someday, you will find someone like that. You will find someone who will love you like the love we held for those gleaming jewels that decorated the heaven."

He rocked her as she sat on his laps. It wasn't long before her breathing slowed down, Jonathan laid her carefully on the soft grass. He packed up his tools and perked up.

"Our little girl has grown up now, don't you think so Evelyn?" He smiled

The cold wind rose up, leaves rustled, like a reply to him.

**************************************************

The sky was crying for him

The color black decorated the ceremony along with thick silence.

People exchanged words of comfort to her before leaving her to drench in cold.

Lily stood in front of gray tombstones as she couldn't bear herself to sob no more. He's gone. Her beloved father who had shared his life with her, was one with the sky for all eternity. Lily felt rain pour onto her, soaked her from head to toe.

"I haven't found that person dad. Yet you have left me so early. What am I going to do now..." Her face broke into a sad smile

Suddenly, an umbrella appeared, shield her from the rain. She frowned and turned back. A small girl with a shy expression was holding out an umbrella for her. Shoulder length brown hair with a hairband which separated the bang covering the left side of her face from the one behind. She wore a thick pick sweater with navy blue skirt. Polished black shoes and white socks complimented her outfit nicely. But Lily wasn't in the mood scouting the other person. She sighed and pushed the girl's hand away from shading her.

"You'll be wet if you do that" She furrowed her eyebrows.

"I want to be. Please leave me alone."

"You don't want that, right?"

Lily stopped. She's contemplating. This girl didn't show any intention of leaving so whatever answers she gave would have the same result.

"What's your name"

"Eliana. Eliana Yulee. Nice to meet you...?" She gave out a hand

"Lily Rosewood" Lily shook the hand gently

"Say, how about we get to somewhere else? It's not an ideal thing to stand here in the graveyard and talk under this weather, you know?" she smiled

Lily blinked when Eliana dragged her toward the gate. She's not angry because of her action but more likely to question herself on why she let a stranger lead her way, instead of refusing and grieve on her own. Her feet brought her out on the road and paused in front of an apartment. Eliana jiggled the key and pushed open the door, letting Lily step in.

The place was cozy, somewhat messy to Lily's opinion. The wall was painted baby blue with drawings hung around the room. The table near the window has countless stacks of papers and paint brushes lying all over it. Eliana showed up with a towel and wrapped it around Lily. She then gave her some clothes and asked her to take a warm shower before she caught the flu. Lily complied without any questions as she followed the direction.

Lily returned, wearing an oversized red hoodie with a jogger pants. She sat down on the couch next to Eliana and received a mug of hot cocoa, muttering a "Thank you" while sipping it. Bittersweet flavor lingered on her tastebuds. It warmed her to the core, she shivered lightly.

"Feeling better? Hot cocoa always cheers me up when I'm down." Eliana glanced at her.

"Yeah, thank you." Lily sunk into the couch, leaving the mug on the coffee table.

They stayed silence like that until Lily spoke.

"Why did you come up to me?"

"I see you in trouble, I help. Is it wrong to do so?." Eliana simply responded

"You pity me" She stated

"No, I care"

"Yeah, sure"

Lily laid back and closed her eyes lids. All of a sudden, a pair of arm engulfed her in a warm hug. Lily cracked open her eyes to see Eliana pull herself closer to her and it reminded her of herself with her father. Her chin wobbled, keeping the lump down her throat as tears rolled on her cheeks. She hugged back and cried while Eliana soothed her little soul. As the rain pattered on the window, Lily fell asleep on Eliana, dreaming of a sky full of stars.

- Three years later -

The first snowflake of the season had fallen upon the town of Casterfil. It's quite dark outside but Eliana still waited at the field for Lily to come. She patted herself and prayed her to be here quick or else she would freeze.

Lily sped up to her destination to encounter a shaking Eliana. She chuckled as she handed her a bottle fill with hot cocoa inside.

"What took you so long? I almost turn into a snowman waiting for you here!" Eliana pouted.

"Sorry, the line was a bit too long and the café was packed." Lily smiled as she set up a fire.

"Well, why don't we meet up there, instead of this meadow?" Eliana shivered next to her, squeezed closer to get some heat.

"We can't star gazing from a café now, can't we?"

Eliana sighed as she gazed upon the night sky. It was filled with dots, twinkling like diamonds.

"You know, when I was small, my dad usually brings me here and shows me everything about the constellation. He said every star in the sky were souls of those who had passed away. He said he would be there someday, and even though I feared of being left alone, he assured me that one day I could find someone to be there for me."

"I believe you." Eliana held her hands

"And I believe that someone is you, Eliana." Lily looked into those shining emerald eyes before closing their distance.

"Because you're my precious starlight, dear."
