Mine | LenaMiu (English Version)
Chap 45
The message arrived close to ten in the morning.
Lena: I can't come pick you up today. Be careful on your way to work.
Miu stared at the screen, frowning.
That was strange.
Lena never texted like that. If she was busy, she would call. She would explain. She would ask if Miu had eaten, promise to make it up later.
Miu called immediately.
The phone rang three times.
Lena answered, her voice lower than usual, slightly hoarse.
"You're awake already?"
"What's wrong with you?" Miu asked straight out.
"Nothing." Lena replied, her breathing heavy.
"I'm just a bit tired."
"Do you have a fever?"
"No. Just didn't sleep enough."
Miu stayed silent for two seconds. Then she said the one sentence Lena didn't have time to stop.
"I'm coming over."
"Miu—"
"Don't stop me." Miu's voice was firm in a way Lena rarely heard.
"I'm coming right now."
And she hung up.
⸻
When Miu opened the apartment door, she nearly cried.
Lena was lying on the sofa, laptop still open, eyes closed, breathing slow but heavy. She was still wearing her dress shirt, the top buttons undone, as if she had meant to change but hadn't had the strength.
Miu dropped her bag and rushed over.
"Lena..."
Lena opened her eyes, trying to sit up.
"You really came..." Her voice was rough, exhausted.
"Lie down." Miu gently pushed her shoulder.
"Don't force yourself."
Lena wanted to protest, but her body refused to cooperate. She sank back down, eyes closing tightly. Miu pressed her forehead to Lena's.
"You're so warm..."
"It's fine." Lena murmured.
"In a bit I'll—"
"Be quiet."
Lena opened her eyes, startled.
"I'm worried." Miu said, trying to keep her voice steady.
"Don't scare me."
Lena looked at her for a long moment.
Then whispered,
"I'm sorry."
It was the first time Lena apologized for being weak.
⸻
Miu brought a warm towel, water, medicine, then sat back down.
"Take the medicine first."
"I don't need—"
"Miu says no arguing."
Lena looked at her, unaccustomed to being ordered around and even more unaccustomed to obeying.
But she did. Without resistance. Miu placed the cool towel on Lena's forehead.
Lena closed her eyes, exhaling softly.
"That feels nice..."
"Sleep for a bit."
"I can't." Lena opened her eyes halfway.
"I still have work—"
Miu leaned down and placed a finger gently on Lena's lips.
"Your job right now is to sleep."
In that moment, Lena froze. Not because of the touch. But because of Miu's voice.
Soft.
But unshakable.
A kind of certainty that made Lena feel... held.
For the first time in many years, she wasn't the one in control. Someone else was holding her hand.
⸻
Lena drifted in and out of sleep. Miu sat beside her, watching her sleeping face, her chest tight. In her sleep, Lena frowned slightly, her hand curling as if trying to grasp something.
Miu gently took it.
Immediately, Lena relaxed. Her breathing deepened.
As if her body recognized this hand.
As if it knew it.
Miu whispered,
"You're so strong... and yet so lonely you even have to try while sleeping."
She bent down and pressed her lips to the back of Lena's hand.
"It's okay now. I'm here."
⸻
About an hour later, Lena woke up.
The first thing she saw was her hand resting in Miu's.
Miu was asleep beside her, head leaning against the sofa arm, hair falling over half her face.
Lena's chest tightened.
Not with pain. But with the feeling of being cared for—truly cared for.
Something she had never really had. Lena lifted her free hand and gently brushed Miu's hair, slow and careful.
"You really came..."
Her voice was hoarse, almost emotional.
Miu stirred awake.
"You're up?" she rubbed her eyes.
"Yes." Lena looked at her.
"You slept here?"
"I was watching you."
Lena squeezed her hand lightly.
"Thank you."
Miu shook her head.
"You don't have to thank me."
"I love you."
Lena froze.
It wasn't the first time Miu had said it. But it was the first time she said it so naturally without hesitation, without shyness.
Just a simple sentence. For Lena, it was the moment the last wall finally fell.
She pulled Miu closer, her voice low.
"Kiddo."
"Yes?"
"If one day I fall... will you come running like you did today?"
Without hesitation.
"Yes."
"What if I push you away?"
"I'll still come."
"What if I'm too afraid to open the door?"
"I'll knock."
Lena swallowed.
"What if I say I don't need you anymore?"
Miu held Lena's face, steadying her.
"Then I'll still need you."
In that moment, Lena understood:
Miu wasn't just someone she wanted to keep. Miu was the person who would hold her when she was slipping away from herself.
Lena pulled Miu into her arms, holding her tight, her voice breaking.
"Today... let me be the one you hold."
Miu tightened her arms around her.
"Tomorrow too."
