"2020 was when the world faced unprecedented challenges and changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many countries implemented lockdowns and social distancing measures to slow the spread of the virus, which led to significant disruptions in daily life, from working and learning remotely to canceled events and travel plans. Additionally, there were protests and social unrest in response to police brutality and systemic racism, as well as a contentious U.S. presidential election. The year also saw the deaths of notable figures, including Kobe Bryant and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, as well as devastating wildfires and natural disasters. Overall, 2020 was a difficult and tumultuous year for many people."

Turning off the TV, Selena sighed in disappointment. She once had high hopes for 2020. She had planned to travel, explore new places, and make new memories. But as the year progressed, things took a turn for the worse.

The pandemic hit, and Selena found herself stuck at home, just like everyone else. Her experience during the quarantine was a rollercoaster of emotions. At first, it was a welcome break from her busy life. She felt a sense of relief at being able to work from home and avoid the daily commute. However, she soon grew restless, beginning to feel isolated and lonely. Selena missed her friends and family. She missed the face-to-face interactions with her colleagues. She also missed the freedom that came with being able to go wherever she wanted. Selena found it difficult to stay motivated without the usual structure of her daily routine. Despite trying to stay positive and keep busy, there were moments when the uncertainty and worry about the future would overwhelm her.

Fortunately, as the months passed and the restrictions slowly began to ease, Selena felt a glimmer of hope and started to look forward to the future again. She found ways to cope. She learned to bake, took up painting, and even started a garden in her backyard. She had found that she had been living more slowly during the quarantine. With fewer places to go and fewer people to see, Selena had been prioritizing self-care and activities that brought her joy. It had been a nice change of pace, and she had been able to appreciate the little things in life, such as the sweet melody of birds chirping in the early morning and the feel of the sun on her face.

However, the year 2020 had more in store for Selena. In the summer, she lost her job due to the economic downturn. She had been working there for seven years and had become an integral part of the team. Selena felt lost and confused as she navigated the job market, feeling like a small fish in a big pond. It was a setback to her self-esteem, and she struggled to find a new job in a market flooded with applicants. She had always been confident in her abilities. She had a degree in marketing and had worked hard to get where she was. But now, as she sent countless resumes and attended job interviews, her confidence began to wane. She found herself doubting her skills and questioning whether she was good enough.

After some weeks, she began to feel like she would never find a job again. She became depressed and anxious, spending most of her days on her bed, scrolling through job boards and sending out applications.

Despite the knocks, Selena refused to give up. She spent her days networking, sending more resumes, and improving her skills. And eventually, her hard work paid off. One day, she received a call from a company she had applied to. They had seen her resume and thought she would be a suitable piece for their team. Serena was ecstatic. She went in for an online interview and was offered the job on the spot. She landed that new job in the fall, which was even better than her old one. She was overjoyed and relieved. Selena realized the setback had taught her valuable lessons about resilience and perseverance. She had learned that it was okay to struggle and face rejection and that it was vital to keep pushing forward even when things seemed bleak. She was grateful for the experience and knew it had made her better and more resilient.

As the last days of the year approached, she had more complicated feelings. Luckily, Selena soon felt okay because she came across the song "mad at 2020"—a parody version of "mad at disney" by Salem Ilese. To her surprise, this version was made by the original artist, and it captured everything the world had gone through.

"I'm mad at 2020

This year got ugly

And we had to spend it all inside

But now it's almost done, we

Learned so much from it

Like a thousand ways to bake a pie

Gained ten pounds in quarantine

And marched for what we believe

And everyone got mad at Disney

We lost Kobe

Nearly broke me

Thank you, RBG

You inspired me

We got fires

And some got fired

When the hell is 2020 over?

2020 sucks, 2020 sucks

When the hell is 2020 over?

2020 sucks, 2020 sucks

There were some silver linings

In between the crying

Like when Kamala became VP

We applauded doctors

And essential workers

Now we even got a few vaccines

Binged all of Tiger King

And let TikTok do its thing

Thank God I spent this year with Bowie

Ran out of paper

And now I'm not sure

What is real or cake

If the news is fake?

And while we're masking

We're all asking

When the hell is 2020 over

2020 sucks, 2020 sucks

When the hell is 2020 over?

2020 sucks, 2020 sucks

When the hell is 2020 over?

2020 sucks, 2020 sucks."

While the song coming to an end, Selena could not feel more sympathy and happiness. She realized that 2020 had been a year of growth and resilience for her. She had learned to adapt to strenuous circumstances and become more solid on the other side. And even though Selena was eager to put the year behind her, she knew she would never forget the lessons she learned in 2020. The outro of "mad at 2020" was what she wanted to tell everyone and this historic year:

"I'm mad at 2020

This year got ugly

So, I'm sending you a great big hug."
