After that final, devastating battle, the city of Lumiose City slowly began to reclaim its former grace. The world had not ended. Team Flare had fallen. Lysandre was presumed dead, and Lysandre Labs had already been placed under new management. Everything, it seemed, would return to its rightful orbit.

But that was only what people believed.

In a weathered tower on the outskirts, the red-haired man still lived. The desire to purge humanity had rooted itself too deeply within him to wither so easily. Even now, he nurtured a quiet resolve to activate the "Ultimate Weapon" a second time. The Team Flare the world thought dissolved still lingered in the shadows. Lysandre Labs had indeed changed hands—but to someone loyal only to him.

"A pity," he murmured, his voice cold with restrained fury. "That flawless plan of mine was ruined by a handful of children. But if you stopped me once, do not presume you will be granted a second miracle."

He resumed his research on the Ultimate Weapon.

What he did not fully account for was himself.

He had been exposed to the ancient weapon's energy for too long. In that final confrontation, he had absorbed an overwhelming surge of power from Z. His body had begun to change. At first, he dismissed it as simple energy resonance. He knew he had inadvertently become a vessel for Infinity Energy. But the sudden fatigue, the persistent dizziness—and the peculiar craving for sour foods—forced him to consider another possibility.

He stood alone in his laboratory.

There was no emerald glow. No tremor of Mega Evolution. Only a heartbeat.

Not one.

But two.

He let out a dry, humorless laugh. "I spent my life studying energy that allows Pokémon to transcend their limits... and the flaw in my calculations is nothing more than basic biology."

For the first time in years, he did not think about Mega Evolution. He did not think about the Ultimate Weapon. He did not think about purification. Instead, he sat in silence, struck by the cruel irony of it all: a man who sought to extinguish life to recreate the world was now about to bring forth a life of his own.

"How ironic," he whispered, a faint smile ghosting his lips. "I once wished to destroy all that was imperfect. And now... I pray this child will live."

He took up his lab coat and walked to the window, gazing at Kalos under its quiet night sky. His hand rested hesitantly against his abdomen. There was no faint shimmer of Infinity Energy. No resonance from a Mega core. Only something painfully ordinary—life, fragile and human, growing within him.

And that ordinariness frightened him more than any ancient force ever had. Energy could be measured. Weapons could be calculated. A child could not.

"I'm going to be a father," he breathed, the thought both hollow and luminous at once.

From that moment, he changed.

He reduced his exposure to energy cores, minimizing every risk. He no longer insisted on personally conducting dangerous experiments. For the first time in years, he prioritized tomorrow over results. He wanted his child to be born healthy.

And doubt crept in.

If he pursued his cleansing to its bitter end, would his child be born into a world emptied by his own hand? Into loneliness? Into inherited sin? Were the consequences of his obsession still worth the cost?

One evening, while calculating, he paused when he felt a gentle kick.

He allowed himself a quiet chuckle. "Darling... not while I am solving differential equations."

Time passed. His body changed. He could no longer conceal it beneath tailored suits. He secluded himself, speaking only to a trusted few within the remnants of Team Flare. In the final months, exhaustion claimed him entirely. The weight he carried made even the simplest tasks arduous. Yet he did not complain.

These hardships were temporary.

The life within him was not.

He found himself scribbling names across sheets of paper, crossing them out, writing them again. Over and over.

"Will you hate me?" he muttered under his breath. "When you learn who I once was...?"

As the due date approached, pain struck without warning. His hands trembled as he called for his most loyal subordinate. No longer a commanding leader, he was simply a frightened man. During labor, he gripped the sheets tightly, sweat soaking through strands of crimson hair.

"I endured the blast of the Ultimate Weapon," he told himself through clenched teeth. "I withstood the power of Zygarde. I will not fall to this."

And then—

A cry.

Clear and small and impossibly alive.

A daughter.

He stared at her in silence. The eyes that once burned with fanaticism softened beyond recognition. He held her carefully, as though she were the most delicate structure ever built. To him, she was perfect—in the most human way possible.

Dawn crept over Lumiose City. The city stirred awake in the distance. He kissed her gently on the cheek.

"I once wished to create a more beautiful world," he whispered. "Perhaps... I already have."

For the first time in many years, he did not dream of remaking the world.

He only wished to protect one person.

"Shall we go to Galar, darling? I will try... to give you a better life."

When he dismissed his subordinates and the room fell quiet, he leaned close and whispered into the newborn's ear—

"Your name is... Lysandra."
