NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE (Completed)
40 Arvind's Decision
Part 40 Arvind's Decision
Arnav and Aman were shocked to hear Sheetal's name mentioned by Radha.
"What do you mean, Aunty?" Aman asked, his confusion evident.
"Yes, she is the one who wants to bring Khushi down," Radha replied.
"How do you know?" Aman asked, wanting concrete proof against Sheetal.
"She directly tried to manipulate Arvindji," Radha explained.
"How?" Aman inquired.
"She came to the office and told him about the relationship between Arnav and Khushi."
"What was Uncle's reaction?"
"He was worried about Lalithji. He thought he would be upset if he found out about his relationship with Khushi."
"Was it Sheetal who spiked Khushi's drink?" Aman pressed.
Radha hesitated.
"Please, Aunty, please tell us," Aman urged.
"No, it's not Sheetal. She was a partner in crime..."
"Of whom?"
"It's not hard to guess..."
"Was that Lalith Uncle?" Aman asked.
Radha nodded in confirmation.
"How do you know, Aunty?"
"I heard him talking with Sheetal on the sports meet day on phone asking her to watch his man."
"What does he want?" Aman asked, even though he had an idea. He wanted Arnav to know not only about Lalith but also about Radha.
"Arnav..." Radha replied.
"Arnav?"
"He wants Arnav to marry Lavanya. That's why he wants to remove Khushi from Arnav's life."
"Does he think he can remove Khushi from Arnav's life by spiking her drink?"
"Can't he? What would Arnav have thought if he hadn't found out about the drink after Khushi's positive blood test report?"
Aman was about to speak, but Radha raised her palm, stopping him.
"I know Arnav would not have doubted Khushi, but what if the situation proved Khushi wrong? If he had said something out of disappointment, wouldn't Khushi's heart be broken? That's what Lalith needed. Arnav might be able to get together the broken pieces, but the scar would always remain."
"No, Aunty, Arnav would not have doubted Khushi because he knows how hard-working she is..."
"Arnav might not have doubted Khushi, but what would Khushi's condition be? You said she is hard-working; how could she tolerate the insult?"
"She would not have, but Arnav would have made her understand. He would have been there for her."
"You know Arnav well. That's why you speak with confidence. But Lalit doesn't know that. He is trying hard to make their lives hell. He believes he could separate them..."
"Doesn't he have any sense?"
"Even Sheetal lacks sense. The girl who has known Arnav since childhood and should understand him very well doesn't; how could you expect Lalit to?"
Aman nodded and asked, "May I ask you something, Aunty?"
Radha nodded.
"Why did you call Arnav to tell him about Lalit's plan?"
"To safeguard Khushi. What else?"
"Why?"
"What do you mean, why? What he did is not right. Just because he wants his daughter to marry Arnav, how can he spoil a girl's reputation and respect?"
"He is Uncle's partner. Won't Uncle be upset if he knows you called Arnav and thwarted Lalit's plan?"
"He knew. I told him..."
"Didn't he get upset?"
"No. When it comes to Arnav, he won't care about anyone else. He wants Arnav to be happy. He knows that Khushi is his happiness."
"I can't believe this, Aunty."
"Why?"
"I knew he wasn't fine with Arnav's decision to marry Khushi."
"He was..."
"Is he fine with it now?"
"Undoubtedly..."
"How do you know?"
"I just know..."
"Did you discuss it with Uncle?"
Radha was silent.
"So you made him understand, right?"
"It's not my responsibility to make him understand when he was confused."
"So you convinced him that Arnav should be his priority, right?"
"Arnav was, is, and will be his priority. He just stumbled over his friendship. That's all..."
"Thank you for your help, Aunty."
"You're welcome. Take care of Khushi, especially until the national meet..."
"Sure, Aunty..."
Aman was about to leave when Radha stopped him.
"One minute, Aman beta..."
"Yes, Aunty?"
"Please convey my apologies to Arnav. I never intended to separate him from his father. Arvindji misjudged his son's love for his mother. I never snatched his mother's place, and I never will. I know he can't forgive me. Yet..." She gulped and left the place.
Aman felt terrible for her. He didn't understand how Arvind had managed to get her into three relationship. He went to Arnav, who was leaning on the car.
"Let's go, ASR..." Aman said, motioning for Arnav to join him.
Arnav walked with him, his frustration with Lalit and Sheetal clear.
"What do you think, ASR?" Aman asked.
"I'm trying to figure out how to stop Lalit from doing anything further," Arnav replied.
"Will you do what I say?" Aman asked.
"What?"
"Agree to marry Lavanya. That will make him quiet."
"What the f..."
"Until you agree to marry Lavanya, he won't stop trying to attack Khushi."
"No, he won't stop eben if I agree because I won't stop mingling with Khushi. Understand this: this is not a way to stop him. I'm not a coward who hides behind some fake reason."
"He won't be controlled, ASR..."
"He can be. I know how to stop him."
"How?"
Arnav laid out his plan, and Aman let out a sigh.
"Are you sure, ASR?"
"Do we have any other way to stop him?"
Aman had no answer.
"Chill, I will take care of it..."
They arrived at college during the third period. Khushi smiled brightly upon seeing Arnav. He came and sit on the bench behind her. Aman saw him cooled down seeing Khushi. He sighed.
"Hi..."
"Are you alright?" Khushi asked.
"Yup, fit and fine."
"Why are you late?"
"I had some important work..."
"Oh..."
"Did you search for me?" he asked with a mild smile.
Khushi nodded in affirmation.
"You were always earlier than me. I didn't find you in our class, so I thought you were absent today."
At that moment, the peon entered their class and called for Arnav and Khushi.
"The physical instructor wants to see you in the sports room..."
They met the physical instructor and saw a man standing with him, holding a measuring tape.
"You two are going to participate in the national meet. You should represent our college by wearing our college coat..."
Arnav smiled at Khushi, but she looked unexcited.
The man took their measurements and noted them down.
"How much do we need to pay for the coat, sir?"
"Each one costs four thousand..."
Arnav took out his wallet, removed eight thousand, and paid the cost. The tailor glanced at the physical instructor, awestruck.
"He is her sponsor," the instructor said, understanding the look.
"Oh..."
Arnav and Khushi walked out of the sports room.
"What happened, Khushi? You don't seem excited about the college coat."
"You've already killed my excitement..." she said teasingly.
"I don't understand."
"I would have felt more excited if you hadn't gifted me the coat at the state meet..."
"Aren't you excited at all?" Arnav looked at her in surprise.
"Of course, I'm happy, but I'm not excited because I've already experienced extreme excitement," she replied, a bit emotional.
Arnav looked at her as if to ask, "What happened to you?"
"Thanks, Arnavji... for making my life easier, for showing me a different side of life, for being with me, for making me feel lucky, for making my dream come true, for earning me respect..."
Cutting her off, he said,
"Khushi, relax..."
Khushi gulped.
"What happened to you, Khushi?"
Khushi just nodded her head and rushed away, not wanting to get more vulnerable. Arnav watched her leave, confused.
.....
On the other side,
Arvind was squeezing his hands together.
"What are you thinking?" Radha asked.
"Do you want to me break the wedding proposal with Lalith?"
"Will you marry Arnav to Lavanya?" She questioned.
Arvind was left speechless.
"If you can't make that happen, what's the point of thinking about it?"
"Lalith..."
Cutting him off, she said,
"Okay, let me deal with it."
"You? How will you do that?"
"I will talk to Lavanya. She's the only person who can calm her father down."
"I'll talk to Lalith."
"Mmm," Radha said, but it didn't mean she had changed her mind about talking to Lavanya.
Arvind called Lalith, who answered the call.
"Hi, Arvind... What's up?"
"I need to discuss something important with you."
"Yeah, go ahead."
"I'm sorry to say this. Arnav is not interested in Lavanya..."
Lalith straightened in his seat.
"I don't want to force him into anything he doesn't want."
"So?" His voice wad rigid.
"I think we should drop the proposal."
"What do you mean?"
"I want my son to be happy. If he won't be happy with Lavanya, there's no point in getting them married. I'm sorry. Just drop it..." Arvind disconnected the call, leaving Lalith furious.
To be continued...
