NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE (Completed)

Part 44 Reason
Arnav drove the car, contemplating Radha's offer to Shashi. He didn't take it lightly and wanted to understand why Radha did this.
Arnav dialled Aman, who answered the call promptly.
"Yes, ASR?" He asked, willing his wet hair.
"Come to RM... now."
Aman stopped wiping.
"Now? We have to go to college."
"We'll go from RM."
"Is it something serious?"
"I don't know."
"What do you mean?"
"Let's talk in person."
"Okay."
Arnav headed to RM. He took a quick shower and came downstairs, expecting Aman to arrive. Aman entered RM and asked,
"What's the matter, ASR? Why did you call me urgently?"
"Khushi's father got a contract with a company."
"Wow, that's good news!"
"I thought so too..."
"What happened then?"
"I suspect it might be a ploy."
"Why do you think that?"
"Because of the person who gave him the contract."
"Who gave it?"
"Mrs. Raizada."
"What? Really?" She asked with a little surprise.
Arnav nodded.
"I just can't trust that woman," he said.
"That's because you don't want to..."
Arnav fell silent.
"What do you want to know?" Aman asked.
"I want to understand her intentions."
"If you don't trust her, how do you expect her to tell us the truth?"
"I want her to know I know what she's doing."
"Okay..."
Aman took out his phone and called Radha. When she saw Aman's number, she answered thoughtfully.
"How are you, Aunty?"
"I'm fine..."
"Aunty, I heard something and want to know about it."
Radha was silent.
"Aunty, are you there?"
Taking a deep breath, she replied,
"Aman beta, if you called me to inquire about the contract given to Mr Gupta, yes, I offered it to Mr Gupta because I thought he would be the right choice. I have no other intentions, I promise he will be treated with respect."
"When there are many well-known shops in Delhi that could fulfil your expectations, why did you choose Mr Gupta?"
"Why shouldn't I choose Mr. Gupta? Doesn't he deserve a chance? I chose him because he is talented and because a loyal man like him deserves to progress in life. That's why."
Aman glanced at Arnav, who had closed his eyes, deep in thought.
"Thank you, Aunty..." Aman said.
"You're welcome. Anything else?"
"No, Aunty."
"By the way, how did you know it was me?"
Aman hesitated.
"Khushi asked me if she knew me. I think she figured out who I am." Radha smiled.
Aman remained silent.
"Did she know me?"
"I think so."
"Someone must have told her about me..." she sighed, realising that no one would have informed Khushi about her in a positive light.
Arnav gestured to Aman, which piqued Aman's curiosity. He nodded and said,
"Lavanya told Khushi about you, I suppose."
Radha sighed in relief. Aman, sensing her relief, knew it was because Radha believed that Lavanya would only have shared something positive. He wondered Arnav whiff Radha to know that. He felt it positive.
"I see..." Radha was about to end the call but paused when she heard Aman say,
"Aunty, I know why you offered Mr. Gupta this opportunity."
Radha listened attentively without interrupting, while Arnav regarded Aman with a plain expression.
"You want to lift him up. Am I right?"
"He deserves it, Aman beta."
"You are great, Aunty."
"God must be great. Bye," she said before disconnecting the call.
Aman looked at Arnav thoughtfully.
"What do you think about Radha, Aunty?"
Arnav remained silent.
"She wants to improve Khushi's family status. She went to their home and offered them a contract on her own. I don't know what you're thinking, ASR, but Radha Aunty is a lovely woman who truly wants you to be happy. Even your father failed in that regard."
Arnav averted his gaze from Aman.
"I'm not asking you to do anything impossible. I just want you not to resent her. Ask yourself if she finds out that you are aware of this situation. Then she won't dare to make any move that could embarrass Khushi's family."
Arnav took a deep breath.
"We're running late for college. Let's go." Aman walked.
They headed to the car.
"Shashi uncle is looking for a bigger house," Arnav remarked while driving.
"Yeah, their current house isn't suitable for making sweets..."
"Mmm... I think we should help him."
"Sure, why not?"
"Find a house broker. We need to find that house as soon as possible."
"Okay."
They arrived at college.
.........
As promised, Aman brought a house broker to Arnav, who introduced him to Shashi. The broker showed several houses to the Gupta couple, and Garima finalized a home with a spacious room designated for sweet-making.
"Thank you for helping us, Arnav beta. We couldn't have made this happen without your support," Shashi expressed his gratitude.
"It's my pleasure, Uncle. After all, you are Khushi's father. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything," Arnav replied.
Shashi appreciated Arnav's approach; it was refreshing to see such politeness from a wealthy individual.
The Gupta couple began working at the canteen, where Shashi was paid per piece, leading to unimaginable profits. They were delighted by their unexpected success and the progress they had made in their lives.
Meanwhile, Khushi and Arnav were diligently practicing for the national meet. Time flew by.
Arnav stopped pestering Khushi and allowed her to focus on her training without distractions. He understood her dedication stemmed from a desire to gain his respect. He believed her hard work would eventually bring her closer to him, and he was eager for the day it would happen. He thought that the reward for his patience would be worth the wait.
With just a week until the National Meet, Arnav felt anxious—not about winning a medal, but about Lalith.
It was Arnav's bad luck; neither Lalith nor Sheetal mentioned anything to each other about Khushi, which only made him more nervous.
What Arnav didn't know was that they had confirmed the identity of the man who had given drinks to Khushi, and he hadn't been caught yet. They suspected that Arnav had discovered they were behind the spiked drinks, so they were extra cautious.
........
After completing their practice, they began to warm up as usual.
"How is uncle?" Arnav asked.
"He was upset yesterday..." Khushi replied.
"Why?"
"He heard about his old owner's business losses."
Arnav rolled his eyes.
"After that, Amma and I tried to console him."
"Was he consoled?" Arnav inquired.
She shrugged her shoulders in response.
"Khushi, I want to tell you something," Arnav said seriously.
"Go ahead, Arnavji."
"Be careful. From now on, don't eat anything offered by strangers."
Khushi nodded.
"Please, take care..."
"Relax, Arnavji. I will be careful."
"This is OUR future, remember?" he reminded her.
Khushi understood what he meant; their future depended on her success.
"You know what?" Arnav asked.
"What?"
"My source told me there will be a selection team at the National Meet."
"A selection team? For what?"
"The Commonwealth Games selection team," Arnav explained, looking at her who was in disbelief.
Arnav blinked with a smile, acknowledging her excitement.
Khushi joined her hands and closed her eyes.
"Hey, Devi Maiya, please give me the strength..."
"You're already strong enough," Arnav interjected with a grin.
"Let me finish..." she said, still with her eyes shut.
"Okay," Arnav raised his hands in mock surrender.
"Hey, Devi Maiya, give me the strength to withstand all the odds and win." She opened her eyes and looked at Arnav.
He nodded in encouragement.
"Khushi, I hope you won't make me wait long for your Commonwealth medal..." he teased.
Khushi held back a smile and replied,
"No, no... not for the Commonwealth, but for the Olympics!"
Arnav looked at her in shock, and Khushi burst out laughing.
"Let's go," Arnav said, a smile spreading across his face.
He drove Khushi home and was on his way back to RM, he spotted the same man who had handed Khushi the drinks. Parking the car on the side of the road, he sprinted towards him.
To be continued...
