Part 46 Unpredicted

Arnav pulled Khushi, and the log hit his calf. Khushi looked at him horrified. Arnav closed his eyes, gritting his teeth to tolerate the pain. She gazed at his face without blinking. Her eyes teared up as if she felt the pain.

Garima, who came searching for Khushi, saw the scene and became scared. She ran towards them and saw the man advancing on them with a wrathful expression.

"Arnavji..." Khushi shouted, trying to pull him.

Garima saw a roadside raw mango shop. She threw a fist of chilli powder on the man before he touched Arnav. The man screamed, which grabbed Arnav and Khushi's attention. Arnav looked at the man shouting, his face full of chilli powder. Arnav started beating him up. Two more men ran towards them. Khushi tried to run towards the mango shop to take the chilli powder and follow in her mother's footsteps. But she stopped to see the police jeep coming. She huffed in relief. The accused tried to run away, seeing the police. Arnav didn't mind about them as he already held the one with chilli powder on his face.

The police handcuffed him and took him under their custody. Khushi saw Arnav struggle to stand.

"Arnavji..." she held him.

Arnav sat on the ground, holding his leg.

"Auto..." Khushi shouted.

"Khushi, relax... I will drive."

"No... how will you strain your leg?"

"It's automatic, car..."

"Let it be... you don't have to drive. Please listen to me"

"Haan, Arnav bituwa... let's go to the hospital in the auto" Garima said.

They helped him to stand. Arnav moved to the auto, hopping in one leg. They took him to the hospital. Arnav tried hard not to show the pain on his face.

Khushi brought him to the same hospital where Arnav admitted Ashok because she knew Arnav's influence there. As she expected, the doctors started treating him, ignoring the usual formalities. Khushi tried to go inside the OP room with Arnav, but Arnav stopped her.

"Khushi, you stay outside,"

Khushi stood, helplessly. Arnav didn't want her to see him struggling. It would make her weak. He didn't want it to happen. Khushi waited outside with Garima.

"Amma, Arnavji has no one..." Khushi said, choking.

"Khushi, I can understand but we can't be here. Shashiji needs my help to prepare sweets."

"Amma, you go. Please let me be here."

"How will you be alone here?"

"How can I leave him alone?"

"I'm not asking you to leave him alone. Can't you call any of his friends?"

"I don't know any of their phone numbers. Even though his friend came here, how could I leave? He is in this condition because of me..."

"Ok, Shashiji and I will try to come after finishing our work."

"No need, Amma. This is a hospital. Arnavji's uncle is the doctor. So, you don't need to worry. Please, make Babuji understand"

Garima nodded.

"Call me if you want anything."

Khushi nodded. Garima left the place. Khushi sat on the chair all tensed. That was when a nurse came from the OP room. Khushi looked at her and rushed to her.

"How is Arnavji?"

"He is all right. Don't worry... no fracture in his leg..."

Khushi sighed, closing her eyes.

"Thank you, sister."

She handed Arnav's phone to Khushi.

"Someone named Aman is calling. He asked me to give it to you. Answer the call if he calls again," The nurse said and left.

Khushi nodded. As she expected, Aman called again. Khushi attended the call.

"ASR..."

"Aman..."

Aman straightened himself, hearing Khushi's voice.

"Khushi...! Is everything all right?"

"No... Arnavji is in the hospital."

"Whaaat? But why? What happened to him?"

"Somebody attacked him... I mean, they tried to attack me. in the attempt to save me, he is injured."

Aman closed his eyes.

"I'm coming" Aman disconnected the call.

Khushi waited restlessly. She didn't know what the doctors were doing if there was no fracture. She saw the doctor coming out. Khushi rushed to him.

"How is he, Doctor?"

"Nothing to worry...thank God, the man didn't hit the leg bone but his calf. It's just a blood clot. It would not have been a big deal if he was a normal person. He is an athlete and must participate in the National meet in six days. So, it's absolutely a big deal."

"Can't he run?" She asked nervously.

"He can... we will make him... then why are we here? That's why he is admitted. He will have to stay here tonight. Then, we can surely cure the blood clot."

Khushi nodded with happy tears.

"Shall I meet him?"

"Wait for ten minutes. Then you can meet him then,"

"Thank you, doctor."

"Welcome"

The doctor left the place. Khushi waited for ten minutes to pass. She sat on the chair again. She could not relax even after knowing Arnav could run. What would have happened if Arnav had not saved her? If Arnav had not come before her, the log would have hit her leg bone, and she would not have even walked. How far could one go for love? He loved her; would he even dare give up his passion? She didn't know how to compensate for his sacrifice.

Khushi saw Aman rushing. She stood up.

"Khushi, how is ASR?"

"He is fine. Blood clot in his leg..."

"Could he run?"

Khushi nodded, and Aman sighed in relief.

"Thank God... do you know how scared I was?" Aman's relief was intense in his smile, and his concern for Khushi and Arnav was evident.

Khushi nodded.

"Did you come alone?"

"Amma was with me. I sent her home as she has some work."

"Yeah, she has to help your father. Right?"

Khushi nodded.

"Ok, Khushi. You go home. You have to wake up earlier to do practice."

"No. I'm not going. I will be with Arnavji."

"Khushi, why should you be here when I'm here?"

"I will be here no matter how many people are here."

"What about your practice? Won't you go?"

"I'm not going to the practice tomorrow."

Aman was supposed to say something but stopped as Khushi continued,

"Even though I go to the practice, my mind will not get into the practice."

Aman thought something and said,

"Don't go to the practice. What if again they tried to attack?"

"Police arrested one of them. I don't think they will attack me again."

"Did the police arrest them?"

Khushi nodded.

Aman took his phone and called the inspector. He attended the call.

"Sir, Aman Mathur speaking."

"Yeah, we arrested the one who attacked ASR."

"Did he say anything?"

"He will... very soon. Our department men are checking their phones. We will surely get something from that."

"What about Kaluram? Didn't he say anything?"

"He fainted, not bearing our treatment..."

"Fainted? He is a big rowdy, fainted and could not bear your treatment?"

"What do you think about our treatment? He will not even walk for the next two months. And rowdies are experts in beating...not experts in bearing that. As no one gets the guts to hit them, their bodies become soft and lose the ability to tolerate the pain."

Aman raised his brows.

"Ok, sir... whoever it is, take severe action. The culprit will not escape."

"Sure..."

Aman disconnected the call and looked for Khushi. She was standing near the OP room, squeezing her hands restlessly. He came to her smilingly. She smiled at Aman awkwardly and asked,

"Aman, will you do me a favour?"

"Tell me Khushi"

"I feel thirsty... could you bring me something to drink?"

"Yeah, sure..."

Aman headed to the hospital canteen. At the same time, the doctor who treated Arnav came out of the room.

"Doctor, may I meet him?" Khushi asked, glancing at Aman, who was heading to the canteen. She intentionally sent him because she didn't want him to be with her when she met Arnav.

"Yeah..." The doctor left the place.

Khushi entered the room and saw Arnav sitting on the bed, leaning on its headboard. He smiled at her. He became serious when her eyes teared up.

"Khushi, I'm all right. Don't worry. The doctor said I can run... I will join you in two days and do practice."

Khushi came and sat on the bed facing him. Arnav read her face, which seemed different. She touched his leg, which had a blood clot. Arnav tried to say something. Khushi showed her palm and made him quiet. She held his hand and cried, closing her eyes.

"Khushi, it's just a blood clot... please don't cry."

"I... I... like you so much." She gripped his hand.

"I don't know how I'm going to compensate your love. You are someone no one could get. I feel proud of myself for being your love, Arnavji..."

Arnav looked into her teary eyes. He gazed at her when she extended her hand and touched his cheek, making him gulp hard. She held his face and pressed her lips on his forehead, closing her eyes. She parted her lips from him and saw an unbelievable expression on his face. His breath ditched his lungs when she said,

"I love you so much, Arnavji."

Arnav looked at her, widening his eyes.
