Part 66
Sheetal felt insulted to see Aman at Gupta House. It was a high point of humiliation. She got arrested before the man she wanted to feel proud of. Her eyes pooled with tears in the outcome of controlled anger.
Aman looked at her plainly. There was nothing for him to wonder. After all, she was the woman who didn't hesitate to spoil another one's life. He walked, ignoring her, which made her feel insulted and furious.
Aman came to Shashi, who was embarrassed by Aman's announced arrival. He volunteered a smile.
"What's happening here, sir?" Aman asked.
"Oh... Nothing... It's just...
"You don't have to say if you are not comfortable."
Shashi took a deep breath and said,
"Nothing is like that Dr Aman. Sheetal and his brother stole Anjali's jewels. Police found it out. That's why they are talking her with them."
Aman was dumbfounded. Would Sheetal steal? Was she that cheap?
"How did you think of getting married to such a characterless woman to me?" Aman asked, heated up.
"Even it surprised me, Dr Aman. I feel ashamed of her. I'm wholeheartedly apologising for the mistake I was supposed to make. I'm glad the wedding was called off because you deserve better."
"I deserve better. I was supposed to marry the BEST five years ago, but my bad luck didn't happen."
"It's all fate"
"No... It's not fate but a ploy... Dirty ploy... You guys intentionally separated Khushi from me."
"We? What are you saying, Doctor? Khushi, it's my daughter. How could you think I spoilt her life?"
"You did... Unfortunately, you did. If you had allowed her to talk and listen to her, she would not have left India and married to me. Being her father, how didn't you think of given a chance to her? Why didn't you trust her?"
Shashi didn't know why Aman got angry about something that happened five years ago.
"Anyone in my place would have been the same. I was angry like hell at that time..." Shashi found an excuse.
"I agree your anger is justified. It doesn't mean you would not even let her to say what happened with her."
"What's the use of talking about it now?"
"That's what you can say. Right?"
"What do you want me to say?"
"You said you were in the condition that time. What about now? Do you understand your mistake now?"
"How won't I?"
"Did you ever think of doing redemption to it?"
Redemption? Shashi glupled hard.
"Khushi is innocent. She crossed a horrible phase in her life. She was punished for the mistake she had not done. What are you going to do to make it right? In fact, you can't make it right because her struggle can't be erased."
Shashi was silent.
"You have a granddaughter... Do you know that?"
Shashi remembered Aashi and nodded.
Aman frowned.
"How do you know? Who said?"
"I saw my granddaughter when I went to RM."
"Did you go to RM? I'm sure you would not have gone there due to affection. You should have gone due to a some misunderstanding. Right?"
Shashi fell silent again because Aman was right. He felt ashamed of himself when Aman threw a mockery look at him.
Shashi was supposed to say something but stopped hearing Shyam.
"Yes, we were wrong. We made a blunder. We became blind in anger. But Dad realised his mistake the same night and decided to talk to Khushi the next morning. But she left the house."
"How could she stay where there was no respect for her? You guys were so generous in listening to someone but your own daughter. What a logic!"
Shashi and Shyam looked at each other.
"When you guys know how poor you are in judging people, why the hell did you torture me to marry Sheetal? What would have happened if the truth had not come out? What would have happened to my life? Do you think I would have lived with her adjusting myself?"
There was no answer.
"Actually, I came to give an explanation for calling the wedding off. It's unnecessary because no reputed man wants to marry Sheetal like a woman. I'm leaving now, but I will never forgive you for what you did to Khushi. I don't know if you guys ever regretted it. If you guys really regret it, go apologise to Khushi." Aman walked out.
RM
Aashi was sitting with Khushi in her room when Arnav's phone rang. It was in charge, so Aashi ran and took it.
"Mom, where is Dad?"
"He is in the washroom."
"Shall I attend the call?"
Before Khushi said anything, Aashi attended the call.
"Hello..." It was Payal.
"Hello, who is speaking?" Aashi asked.
Payal smiled, hearing Aashi's voice.
"I'm Arnav's sister... Who are you?" She asked intentionally as if she didn't know her.
"I'm his friend," Aashi said.
"Friend? But he has no girlfriends."
"He has three girlfriends. Ratna Dadi, Khushi mom and me"
"No, I know my brother. He has only one girlfriend, and her name is Khushi..."
"What about me and Ratna Dadi?" Aashi asked.
"Ratna Aunty is his mom,, and you are his little princess..."
"Princess?" Aashi giggled.
"Aashu..." Payal said.
"Payu..." Aashi laughed.
"After knowing me, only did you talk to me like that?"
"Han... Are you my dad's sister?"
"Yes..."
"But Mom said you are his friend."
"We studied together. So we are friends. Arnav is a gentleman. He treats me as his sister."
Aashi saw Arnav out of the washroom.
"Dad, your sister is talking."
"Sister?"
"Yes, she said you are a gentleman."
"Oh,"
"And I'm your little princess."
"She is right. You are indeed my little princess," Arnav said while taking the phone out of her hand and kissed her cheek.
"Hello, Payal..."
"Dad, how do you know it's Payu?"
"Only Payu calls me brother", he smiled.
"Tell me, Payal"
"It seems your daughter started attending your calls."
"Yeah, after all, she is my little princess...! Tell me, Payal."
"Actually, I called Khushi, but her phone number is switched off. That's why I called you."
"Oh, one minute," Arnav said, passing the phone to Khushi.
"Tell me, Payal"
"Khushi, it seems you became a VIP. To talk to you, I crossed one hurricane and a cyclone" Payal chuckled, and Khushi laughed.
"Could you come to the clinic tomorrow morning, Khushi? It's needed"
"Sure"
"Thank you, Khushi."
"Welcome"
Khushi disconnected the call.
"Payal said your phone is switched off. Check it"
"Yes... It is..."
"Do you know?"
"I'm the one who switched it off."
"You? Why did you switch off your phone?"
"I don't want anyone to contact me..."
"Why Khushi? Who don't you want to call you?"
"Leave it"
Arnav came in front of her and read her face.
"What's the matter, Khushi?"
Khushi was silent.
"Do you think your father will call you?"
"I don't know how will I react if he calls me" She said restlessly.
"Do you want him to call you or not?"
"I don't know" Khushi left the place, leaving Arnav in deep thought.
To be continued...
