Part 40 Funeral

The next day morning

Arnav woke up, hearing a phone ring. He took his mobile hurriedly as he thought the call was from Khushi but to his surprise, it was Shashi's call. He frowned with confusion. Why did Shashi call him early in the morning? Arnav sat on the bed and attended the call.

"Hello, uncle..."

"Hi, Arnav. I hope I don't disturb your sleep"

"No uncle..."

"I want you to do me a favor, Arnav,"

"Sure uncle"

"My father passed away"

Father? Arnav became thoughtful. Was he alive? Why did Khushi never speak to him about her grandfather but only about her Granny?

"What happened, uncle?"

"Age factor..."

"Oh...but Khushi never told me about her grandfather..."

Shashi became alert. He failed to think about this factor. Yes, Khushi would not have spoken to Arnav about her grandfather because she hated him. Adding to it, it was he who asked Khushi not to talk about him to Arnav. Now, as he told Arnav about him, Arnav would get upset with Khushi and she would definitely get angry with him for bringing Arnav into this matter.

"Yes, Arnav, she would not have told you about him because she doesn't like him because my mother had a misunderstanding with him. Khushi loves my mother very much. So, she follows my mother's footsteps blindly."

"Oh..." Arnav didn't believe it. He knew Khushi. She won't follow anyone blindly. She should have a valuable reason to do so. Yet, he kept silent.

"As she is upset with my father. So, she was not ready to attend his funeral..."

Arnav raised his brows, amazed.

"Could you bring her to his funeral? Please, I want her to see his face for once..."

"Didn't she see him ever before?"

"No... as he had his own way, he stayed away from us. Adding to it, he had a misunderstanding with my mother. So, he never got a chance to come back to us"

"Oh... where was he?"

"He lived in Ooty only"

"Oh..."

"Yeah, he settled down here long ago..."

It didn't make sense.

''Did Khushi know his stay in Ooty?"

Shashi was stuck.

"No, she didn't even see him once. My mother didn't like to share about him with Khushi. So, she was blank. She knows nothing about my father... she didn't even know my father's existence. She will shout at me if I wish to come to his funeral. That's why I'm seeking your help"

"Oh... then I will surely bring her, uncle" Arnav accepted it gladly. He felt proud about having Shashi's trust and also about Shashi's words that he could make Khushi do something that her father could not do.

"Thank you so much, Arnav."

"With pleasure, uncle"

They disconnected the call. Arnav smiled gladly with pride.

He got ready for college happily but a little later as he wanted to surprise Khushi. Ratna gave him lunch for both of them. Taking it from her, he came out. Ratna and Arvind followed him to send him off. Arnav started the bike and smiled at them. They waved their hands at him. He changed the gear and left the place.

Ratna thanked God, looking up, and joining her hands. Arnav rode the bike, feeling the breeze that crawled on his face.

College

Khushi waited for Arnav outside the classroom as he was not in the classroom. She looked at her watch. It was only ten minutes before the last bell. His route bus would have gone as of now. Then why had not he come to the college yet? Won't he come to the college? She removed her phone and called Arnav but he didn't attend the call as he was riding the bike.

She was fed up. She had to pass the day without Arnav. Why the hell he didn't tell her anything about his absence? She would also have taken leave from the college if he had told her...! She sighed.

She was supposed to go to the class but stopped to see him entering the campus by bike. She blinked her eyes could not believe it. Arnav was coming by bike? Was that really Arnav? He stopped the bike in front of her. Khushi was gazing at him without blinking. He smiled at her. That was when she remembered the surprise he spoke about. Not only Khushi but every eye in their college was on Arnav.

"Arnie... is this really you?"

Arnav smiled. Khushi pinched his hand. Arnav hissed as he didn't expect it.

"Who's bike is this?"

"Mine..."

"My God... Himalayan 450...! Let's go for a ride" She was supposed to sit behind him, but she stopped as the bell rang.

She raised her brows pouting.

"We will go for a long ride later" Arnav smiled.

Khushi nodded ok. They went to the class and sat on their bench.

"By the way, how did this miracle happen?"

"Dad's gift"

"Wow... superb... why suddenly? Anything special?"

"Yeah..."

"What special?"

"I said I'm going to buy a bike..."

"You said and he bought it for you?"

He nodded yes.

"This is the first time I asked for something. that's why"

"How did you get the idea of buying a bike?"

"When I took you home on the bike"

Khushi smiled at him lovingly.

"Won't you ask me the source of money to buy a bike?"

"You must have saved it..."

"I didn't save it but I never used it..."

Khushi frowned as she didn't understand what he said.

"I'm the owner of our tea estate. Half of its profit would be deposited into my account directly and the other share would go to the management purpose"

Khushi raised her brows amazed.

"Yet, you are so simple..."

"There was nothing to celebrate in my life until you came into it...! In recent days only I feel to live my life... that too with you... only with you..."

She entwined her fingers with his adoringly.

"Because of you, I changed... I want you to be with me in my life... forever, Khushi" he kissed her knuckle.

"Where will I go leaving you? if you don't trust me, we will get married today itself..."

"When did I say I don't trust you? I trust you more than myself. You are the only one who gave heed to me... gave yourself to me... how could I be not trusting you?"

"I'm glad that you trust me"

"Till my last breath"

She smiled.

"Do you trust me?" Arnav asked.

"Do you think, without trust, I could submit myself to you?"

"Sometimes, you may think I'm taking advantage of your love..."

"You have all the right to take advantage of my love"

"Won't you get angry with me if I do so?"

"Never... I will feel good if you apply your rights"

Arnav was melted by her words.

"Why are you so much in love with me?" he asked.

"Because no one is like you"

Arnav smiled.

Their attention went to the professor who entered the class. They listened to the lesson. Arnav took his mobile out from his pant pocket as it vibrated. He saw Shashi's message. He read it without Khushi's knowledge.

"Bring Khushi to Blue Lake at 5'o clock"

He kept the phone back and looked at Khushi. She lifted her brows in the manner of asking him, WHAT HAPPENED?

Arnav shook his head from left to right and looked at the professor.

Though Arnav agreed to bring Khushi to her grandfather's funeral, he was nervous. He didn't know how Khushi would react to it but he believed that Khushi would forget him even though she would get angry with him.

Evening

The last bell rang. Khushi looked at Arnav and smiled biting her lip. They came out.

"Let's go" She sat behind him.

Arnav started the bike. Khushi enjoyed the ride to the fullest. She asked him to stop the bike at a particular place. Without a question, he stopped the bike. Khushi got down and gestured for him to come with her. Arnav obeyed her. They went to the nearby shop. Arnav rolled his eyes when Khushi selected goggles for him. She made him wear it and smiled raising her brows.

"Wow... you are looking dashing... girls are going to faint seeing you" She laughed.

"Still, do you want me to wear it?" he asked teasingly.

"Yes... because I know they can do nothing other than fainting. You are my Arnie..." She pinched his cheek, making him smile.

She saw key chains with initials. Taking a key chain with *A* initial, she inserted it in his bike key and gave it to him. Arnav took it from her gladly.

"Thanks..." he smiled.

Khushi paid for both the goggles and keychain. Arnav started the bike and headed the Blue Lake. Khushi loved the ride so much. They saw an ambulance and a police jeep standing at the narrow entrance of the lake. Arnav stopped the bike.

"Arnav, I think something is happening here. We should go" she said seeing the ambulance.

"Khushi, one minute..."

She looked at him.

"I'm sorry for bringing you here"

"It's ok..."

Cutting her,

"Khushi, wait... this is a funeral... ( he stopped and said ) of your grandfather..." he said, making her shocked to the core. She wanted to leave the place with Arnav before he saw his grandfather.

At the same time, two policemen came there.

"I really feel proud of our SP sir. How great he is to do someone's funeral..."

"Yes, it needs a good heart to someone's funeral..."

"I heard he is an Aghori... that's why our SP sir wants to do his funeral as he wants his soul to rest in peace"

Khushi looked at Arnav's face who was horrified, hearing that. it was not hard for him to connect the dots and Khushi understood that.
