Part 25 Time Traveler

"Ashoka quit the war and chose the path of peace. Do you know who he is? He has the guts to fight with a lion and eventually wins... I can't believe he quit the war. I didn't take it seriously when you said that."

Khushi closed her eyes and made up herself.

"You even challenged me to quit the war if Ashoka does that. What is all this Khushi? How do you know Ashoka would do that? How do you know this? Is there a ploy behind Ashoka's mind change? Is someone or a kingdom behind this?"

Khushi nodded no wearily. She didn't expect this twist. She thought she would leave the place without revealing her Time Travel story to Arnav. But, it didn't seem so. Destiny wanted her to tell Arnav about it. She had no chance. She had to tell him. Before leaving Arnav, he had to know the truth even though it was not easy to make him understand Time Travel. Then, he would understand it.

Arnav thought something and asked,

"Did Saint Shah Rukh Khan tell you about it?"

Arnav himself showed her a path to escape without telling the truth but Khushi didn't avail it. She nodded no. It seemed she was ready to break the egg. Yes, she wanted to. She didn't want to leave, leaving Arnav in disappointment.

"Then?"

"I studied about it in my school"

"Studied? Was that a magic school?" he asked.

"No... It's a normal school"

Arnav frowned.

"It would be hard for you to believe but it's true Arnav"

"Whaaat?" He raised his brows.

"I'm from the future... I came here time traveling" She said reading his face.

"What do you mean? I can't understand what you say"

She sighed. Yes, he could not understand that. How could he? After all, it was about modern science.

"I came from 2023 AD... from 2500 years later period. I'm not a foreigner but belong to this country only. Now its name is INDIA. It became a single country from Himalayan mountain to Kanyakumari"

Arnav was looking at her with confusion. He could not understand anything. Whatever Khushi told him was not understandable to him. Khushi understood that.

"Don't you understand?"

Arnav nodded no.

"Ok... I have a device, that will take you to anywhere you want. I mean, you can meet Alexander and Chandra Gupta Maurya with the use of it. I came here by using it only"

Arnav was looking at her unbelievably.

"The world has changed a lot in this 2500 years, Arnav. India changed... Its culture changed, and people changed... Whatever I told you about my country is about India only... that's its present condition"

"I can't believe this"

"It's true"

"How could it be?"

"It is... India is a single country now"

"Who is the King? Indra Varma?"

"No... There is no Monarchy in India now but Democracy"

"Democracy means?"

"It's a government of the people, by the people, for the people. We choose our leader by the voting system. The one who wins the election will rule our country for five years. If he is a good ruler, people will choose him again. if not, people will vote for another nominee and he would become a leader"

Arnav was looking at her with an unnamed expression that told her, he started understanding something.

"I studied Ashoka, Alexander, Chandra Gupta Maurya everyone. That's how I got to know Ashoka would quit the war. Not only that, he is going to send his daughter Sanghamitra and son Mahinda to Srilanka to spread Buddhism. Their names are mentioned in the Buddhist text called Mahavamsa"

Arnav gulped down hard.

"Not only that, India is going to face many invasions from here on that's going to bring a lot of changes in its culture... just like Alexander's invasion did"

Arnav knew how Alexander's invasion brought changes to their kingdom. He witnessed many Greek people still living in their kingdom and working in their forces too.

He remembered something.

"What about the magic box? Is not it true?"

"It's not a magic box but a communication device. Its name is Phone"

"Communication device?" Arnav shrank his eyes.

"Yes, just like your messenger Pigeon..."

"Could the phone fly?" Arnav asked surprisingly.

Khushi smiled.

"No... It won't fly but we can talk to any person in any corner of the world through the phone"

"But how?"

Khushi sighed. How could she explain satellite, tower, signal, sim card, etc., etc.,?

"You can't understand, Arnav. It's science"

"Tell me, I will understand"

Khushi sighed. She removed the phone from her sling bag and showed him the signal bar.

"See, there are no lines in the bar. We could talk only if this bar has lines in it"

"But, why?"

"It's because I'm in 261 BC"

"BC means?"

"Before Christ"

"Christ? Who is that?"

"He is the GOD of Christianity... the largest religion in the world"

"Did he take birth in our country?"

"No, he was born in the Roman Empire"

"Would you go everywhere in the world?"

"No..."

"Then how do you know about him?"

"Through this" She showed her mobile.

"Who talked to you about him through this?"

"No one talked to me... it gives all the information we search for"

Before Arnav asked anything, Khushi stopped.

"Not here... it won't work here... it needs some facilities that are available in only my era"

"That means, are not you a foreigner?" Arnav asked painfully.

She nodded No feeling sad for him.

"I'm sorry, Arnav. I came here to save my LIFE"

"Life? What do you mean?"

"Somebody chased me for the Time Travel Device. I came here to escape from them. But I didn't expect, I would meet the Prince of the friendly kingdom of Ashoka. I had a very good time with you. Because of you, I got a lot of new experiences. I spent my time with you happily. It will remain sweet memories in my heart... forever"

Arnav was horrified. What did she mean? Why did she talk like it was a farewell? Would she go leaving him? No, he could not let her go. He made up himself.

"No... I won't believe all this... you are lying. You are hiding something from me"

"I promise... I'm not lying, Arnav"

"This is all seeming jugglery to me... Time Travel, 2500 years, phone, everything is a lie"

"No Arnav... please trust me"

"OK, where is the device? Show me"

"But why?"

"Until I saw that, I won't believe your words"

"Ok... wait, I will bring it"

"No... I won't let you go..."

"If you don't let me go, how will I bring it?"

"Ok. I will also come with you"

Khushi rolled her eyes and walked to her room, followed by Arnav.

She came to her room and removed the sand clock from her backpack. She showed it to him.

"This is what brought me here"

Arnav was about to take it from her hand, but Khushi pulled it back.

"Why?" He asked.

"It must be handled carefully"

"How?"

"If you twist it while thinking about anywhere, it will take you there"

"Is it?" he looked at the sand clock surprisingly.

"Yes... there are a few rules to be followed while using this"

"What are they?"

"Wait..."

Khushi removed the note about the sand clock and gave it to Arnav. He read it as it was in the Prakrit language.

*We could go to the past but the future.

*We could converse with people when we travel to the past.

*But... We could not CHANGE anything.

*If we stayed in the past, it would create a PARALLEL UNIVERSE. That was completely against nature.

*We could return to the present anytime with the use of the clock.

*While returning, we will appear at the same place from where we went in the past.

Arnav looked at Khushi bewildered.

"Who wrote this?"

"My grandfather who is also a time traveler. He gifted me a toy on my birthday. I found this Time Machine in the toy with this note. I hope, now you understand why I didn't accept your proposal"

Arnav was horrified. He would not only lose Khushi but a few changes she did to his kingdom would also be ineffective.

"What is PARALLE UNIVERSE?"

Khushi sighed again. Should she start from the Solar family?

"I will tell you later. Give me some time..."

"But why?"

"It's not a simple thing. I need to think about it"

"Why would you think if it's true?"

"It's the biggest truth but complicated one... you can't understand"

"I will try... if I don't understand, you can leave it"

"You don't even know about the world. Then, how could I tell you about a parallel universe?"

"You said it's true?"

"Yes, it is..."

"Why do I think you are trying to tackle me?"

"No Arnav...

"OK, you don't have to say what's a parallel universe. If what you said is true, take me to your world... I mean to your era...Then I will trust you"

Khushi was stuck.

"To my era?"

Arnav nodded yes and snatched the sand clock from her hand.

To be continued...
