Chapter 11
"Hey, just so we're clear," Scarlet said softly, her gaze locking with Kelly's, "I'm not trying to pressure you into anything. Just because I'm holding you like this, doesn't mean I'd ever do anything you don't want."
Kelly's breath caught for a moment. She looked up at Scarlet, her heart racing, a little surprised by the directness in her voice. "I know," she said quietly, the words a little shaky. She hadn't doubted Scarlet's sincerity, but hearing it from her made something in Kelly's chest settle. She wasn't sure what was happening between them, but hearing those words, feeling Scarlet's care, grounded her in a way she hadn't expected.
Scarlet's hands gently brushed against Kelly's arms as she pulled back just a little more, her gaze still soft but intense. "I won't cross a line with you, Kel. Not ever. You're in control of everything. I just want you to know that."
For a moment, Kelly didn't know how to respond. The vulnerability between them felt different now, and she realized just how much trust she was placing in Scarlet—how much trust she wanted to place in her. There was a warmth in the way Scarlet looked at her, something that felt safe, and for the first time, Kelly allowed herself to believe it.
Kelly swallowed, the weight of her emotions heavier than she was used to. "I trust you, Scarlet," she said, her voice quieter than usual but filled with a certainty that surprised even her. "I do."
Scarlet's gaze softened even further, her fingers gently brushing Kelly's hair back from her face. "Good," she murmured. "That's all I need to hear."
...........................................
Double surprise
As Scarlet stepped through the door, she couldn't help but smirk at the sight in front of her. The lights were dim, soft candles flickering across the room in delicate glass holders, their warm glow casting a cozy atmosphere over the living room. The faint hum of a song played in the background, and the smell of something sweet lingered in the air. But what really caught her attention was Kelly, sitting there on the couch, grinning mischievously.
"Surprise," Kelly said with a playful twinkle in her eye, though her voice carried that softness that made it clear this was something special.
Scarlet felt a strange rush of warmth in her chest, her usual stoic exterior faltering just a bit. She didn't know how to respond, her heart suddenly feeling a little heavier with emotion. She wasn't used to people going out of their way for her like this, especially not for her birthday.
"You remembered," Scarlet murmured, trying to sound nonchalant, but the vulnerability in her voice was there, hidden beneath her tough exterior.
Kelly gave her a small smile, her eyes filled with genuine affection. "Of course I did. I know how much you try to hide it, but you deserve this." Her words were simple, but they felt like everything Scarlet didn't even know she needed.
Scarlet shook her head softly. "You didn't have to do this, Kelly," she said, but there was a softness in her voice, a rare vulnerability. "I don't need anything. Just... you being here is enough."
But Kelly wasn't backing down. "No way," she said, voice firm but still warm. "I'm doing this, and you're going to enjoy it."
Then, with a suddenness that caught Kelly off guard, Scarlet reached down and scooped her up into her arms as if she were nothing more than a child, lifting her effortlessly. Kelly gasped, her hands immediately pressing against Scarlet's chest in protest.
"Let me down, kidnapper!" Kelly laughed, half-annoyed, half-amused, tapping her hands against Scarlet's to get her to release her. "Is this is how you thank me?"
Scarlet smirked, her grip tightening slightly, making sure Kelly couldn't escape. "You should've known better than to ask," she teased, her eyes glinting with mischief. "Now, I'm gonna keep you right here until you've got no choice but to accept my birthday wish."
Kelly huffed, feigning annoyance but secretly enjoying how easily Scarlet made her feel cherished. "You're impossible," Kelly muttered, but her hands slowly relaxed as she settled into the comfort of Scarlet's arms, the warmth between them palpable.
Scarlet's grin softened, and she leaned in, her lips brushing Kelly's forehead gently. "I just want one thing," she said quietly, her voice low and filled with an emotion Kelly couldn't quite place.
Kelly raised an eyebrow, tilting her head to look up at Scarlet. "What's that?" she asked, voice playful, yet her curiosity piqued.
Scarlet's smile faltered for a moment, a hint of something deeper in her gaze. She hesitated, her breath steadying. "You," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "I've wanted you—everything about you—for so long."
Kelly's heart skipped a beat, her breath catching in her throat at the raw honesty in Scarlet's voice. Her hand rested against Scarlet's chest, feeling the steady beat of her heart beneath her palm. It was a moment of clarity, the weight of everything unspoken between them crashing down.
"Well, you've got me," Kelly said softly, her voice filled with sincerity. "Now, let me down so I can actually spoil you for once, birthday girl."
Scarlet's smile returned, the warmth and affection in her eyes undeniable. "Okay, okay. But only because you've made me the happiest I've ever been."
Kelly rolled her eyes, though there was no hiding the fond smile tugging at her lips. "Flatterer."
Scarlet's smirk deepened as she gently set Kelly back down on the couch, her hands lingering at her waist for just a moment longer than necessary. Kelly shot her a playful glare, ready to argue, but Scarlet was quick to cut her off with a teasing grin.
"You can get mad at me after my birthday, Kel," Scarlet said, her voice light and playful, but her eyes full of affection. "But just so you know, only princesses get to be lifted like that."
Kelly blinked, her annoyance momentarily forgotten as she processed the words. "Princess?" she echoed incredulously, raising an eyebrow.
Scarlet shrugged nonchalantly, but the glint in her eyes was all mischief. "Well, yeah. Who else would get the royal treatment like that? You're special, Kelly," she added with a wink, letting the words settle between them.
Kelly couldn't help the amused, almost shy smile that tugged at her lips. She crossed her arms, trying to feign annoyance, but it was hard when Scarlet was looking at her like that, like she was the only person in the world.
"You're impossible," Kelly muttered, though the affection in her voice was clear.
Scarlet chuckled softly, brushing a strand of hair from Kelly's face. "I know," she replied, her voice now softer, more sincere. "But that's why you love me."
Kelly couldn't help but melt a little under Scarlet's gaze, her heart skipping a beat as she realized how much she truly did. "I'm not saying anything," she finally said, "but don't expect me to let you get away with all of this."
Scarlet laughed "I can't wait to see what you do next, princess."
Scarlet's playful tone softened as she looked down at Kelly, her gaze full of warmth that was rarely seen. "You know," she began, her voice a little quieter now, "you're the only birthday present I've ever wanted."
Kelly blinked, unsure if she'd heard her right. "What?"
Scarlet smiled, a mix of affection and mischief in her eyes. "You," she repeated, her fingers tracing the edge of Kelly's jaw. "You're already the surprise I didn't ask for, but got anyway."
Kelly's heart skipped a beat, a flutter of warmth spreading through her chest as she met Scarlet's gaze. "Scarlet..."
Scarlet's smile grew, but there was something more genuine in it now, something that made Kelly's pulse quicken. "So now, I'm going to ask for something properly," she continued, her tone suddenly more serious, though still with that soft playfulness. "Stay here. With me. Just for today."
The request hung in the air between them, filled with quiet vulnerability. Scarlet had always been the one who kept her emotions close, a master at hiding what she truly wanted. But in that moment, there was no hiding it. She wanted Kelly here, with her.
Kelly's breath caught in her throat, her heart pounding in her chest. She'd been waiting for this—some unspoken acknowledgment, a clear indication that Scarlet felt the same way. And now, Scarlet was asking, not in a joking way or with that aloofness she often wore, but with real sincerity.
"Scarlet, I—" Kelly started, but the words faltered on her lips. She hadn't expected this, hadn't expected to feel so... wanted. So cared for.
Scarlet's eyes softened even more, her hands gently cupping Kelly's face. "You don't have to say anything," she murmured, brushing her thumb over Kelly's cheek. "Just stay with me. That's all I want for my birthday."
Kelly swallowed, her heart both heavy and light at the same time. Her mind raced with everything that had happened between them, with all the feelings that had been building up, and the fear of letting herself go. But when she looked at Scarlet—at the girl who had always been there for her in the quietest, most unexpected ways—she knew what she had to do.
"I... I want to stay," Kelly finally said, her voice barely a whisper but filled with conviction. "I just—" She paused, her heart skipping. "I'm not sure what this means yet. But I want to be here with you."
Scarlet's smile turned tender, her eyes flickering with something soft, almost vulnerable, as she stepped closer to Kelly. "That's all I need to hear," she whispered before leaning in and pressing a kiss to Kelly's forehead. It was a simple gesture, but it felt like everything in that moment.
Kelly wrapped her arms around Scarlet, pulling her closer, feeling the warmth of her body against hers, and for the first time in a long while, she allowed herself to truly let go.
As Scarlet held her close, Kelly let out a soft breath, feeling the tension in her shoulders melt away. There was something so grounding about being with Scarlet like this—like nothing else mattered in the world except for the two of them. The way Scarlet's arms wrapped around her, pulling her closer, made her feel both safe and deeply seen. Kelly had never realized just how much she craved that kind of connection until now.
For a few moments, they stayed like that—wrapped up in each other's warmth, neither saying a word. It was comfortable, peaceful, but also charged with an undercurrent of something neither of them could ignore anymore.
Scarlet finally pulled back just enough to look down at Kelly, her fingers tracing the curve of Kelly's jaw once more, a soft, teasing smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "You know, I think you really like being spoiled," Scarlet said, her voice light but still carrying that playful edge.
Kelly raised an eyebrow, a small grin pulling at her lips. "Oh really?" she teased, nudging Scarlet with her shoulder. "You mean you don't mind indulging me every once in a while?"
Scarlet laughed, the sound like a soft melody that made Kelly's chest tighten in ways she wasn't quite prepared for. "I think you've earned it," Scarlet replied, her tone playful but with an undeniable warmth. "Plus, it's not every day I get to have someone stay with me on my birthday."
Kelly's heart fluttered at her words, and despite herself, she found herself leaning into Scarlet once more, her head resting lightly against her chest. "I'm glad I'm here," she murmured, the words slipping out before she had a chance to stop them. "I want to be here."
Scarlet's hand gently brushed through Kelly's hair, her touch tender but firm, grounding. "You don't have to say anything, Kelly," she whispered, her voice a soft, soothing hum against Kelly's ear. "Just... be with me. That's enough."
Kelly's chest tightened again, emotions welling up inside her. She had always thought that the world had to make sense before she could open herself up, but with Scarlet, everything felt different. It felt easy, natural, in a way she hadn't experienced before. No pretending, no hesitations. Just a connection that didn't need any explanations.
Scarlet pulled back slightly, looking down at Kelly with an intensity that sent a thrill through her. "You know, I meant it when I said you're the only birthday present I've ever wanted," she said, her voice steady, almost soft. "I don't know what's going on between us yet, but I know I want you here. With me."
Kelly swallowed, feeling the weight of Scarlet's words settle deep in her chest. She looked up at Scarlet, locking eyes with her, and for a brief moment, she saw everything—honesty, vulnerability, and that same depth that she had always admired, but now, it felt like it was just for her.
"I want you here too," Kelly whispered, her voice barely above a breath. "More than I thought I would."
Scarlet's expression softened, her eyes flickering with something unreadable, before she leaned down and kissed Kelly gently. It wasn't a passionate kiss, but one filled with quiet affection, a soft promise between them. When she pulled away, she held Kelly's gaze, her hand gently brushing a strand of hair from Kelly's face.
"Then stay with me," she said, her voice low and serious now, but still carrying that warmth. "Tonight. Tomorrow. Whenever you're ready."
Kelly felt something stir in her chest—something that wasn't just excitement, but a deeper recognition of what they were building together. And for the first time, she didn't feel the need to run from it. She didn't need to have all the answers. All she needed was to be here, with Scarlet.
"Okay," Kelly said, her voice steady now, the weight of her own feelings settling in. "I'm staying. And I'm not going anywhere."
Scarlet's smile grew, her eyes shining with something soft and genuine. She kissed Kelly again, this time with more confidence, more certainty. As she pulled away, she rested her forehead against Kelly's, closing her eyes for a moment.
"Good," she murmured, her voice almost inaudible. "Because I think I'm falling for you, Kelly. In ways I didn't expect. In ways I didn't even know I could."
Kelly raised an eyebrow, a small smirk playing at her lips as she glanced up at Scarlet. "You know, you ruined my gloss twice, my favorite," she said innocently, though there was a teasing glint in her eyes.
Scarlet, not missing a beat, gave her a playful shrug. "Don't worry, I only ruined half of it," she said with a grin, her eyes glinting mischievously. "Plus, you look way more beautiful than anything you wear, so I don't think it matters."
Kelly blinked, her heart fluttering a little at the unexpected compliment. She opened her mouth, about to reply, but Scarlet cut her off, her tone suddenly more serious, though still carrying that playful warmth.
"I'll make it up to you, okay?" she said, her voice soft but confident.
Kelly couldn't help but smile, her heart warming at the way Scarlet looked at her. "Alright, you've got yourself a deal," she said, the playful banter making everything feel easy again. "But you owe me a new one, though. Can't have you ruining all my favorite things."
Scarlet's grin widened, and she leaned in, brushing her lips against Kelly's cheek in a quick, affectionate kiss. "Deal," she whispered, her voice low, teasing, and yet undeniably sincere. "I'll get you a whole new collection if I have to. Anything for you."
Kelly's breath caught for a moment, the simple, tender gesture surprising her in the best way. She chuckled softly, trying to hide the blush creeping up her neck. "You spoil me, you know that?"
Scarlet's eyes softened, her hand gently brushing Kelly's hair back behind her ear. "If that's what it takes to see you smile, I'll spoil you every day," she said quietly, the sincerity in her voice making Kelly's heart skip a beat.
Kelly bit her lip, the words caught in her throat for a second as she gazed at Scarlet, feeling more warmth than she had in a long time. Scarlet was like an unexpected force in her life—wild and free, but somehow making everything feel so much more real.
"Okay," Kelly said softly, her voice carrying a mix of affection and surprise. "I think you're pretty good at making things up to me."
Scarlet smiled, her eyes flickering with a mix of mischief and something deeper. "I'm just getting started, princess," she whispered, leaning in again, her lips brushing Kelly's ear. "You'll see."
Scarlet's voice dropped a little lower, a mischievous spark in her eyes as she moved even closer, her presence enveloping Kelly. "So, don't mind being my girl completely," she whispered, her breath warm against Kelly's ear. "Let me unwrap my most precious present."
Kelly's heart beat much faster this time, a rush of warmth spreading through her as she processed Scarlet's words. She felt her breath catch, the room seeming to close in around them. The playful teasing in Scarlet's tone was laced with something deeper, a vulnerability that Kelly hadn't expected to feel in that moment.
Kelly looked up at Scarlet, the weight of her words hanging in the air. She felt her pulse quicken, her mind racing. There was a part of her that wanted to pull back, to protect herself from the overwhelming intensity that Scarlet exuded. But then, there was another part of her—the part that had been opening up to Scarlet over the past months—that just wanted to let go, to embrace whatever this was between them, even if it felt unfamiliar and a little intimidating.
"Scarlet..." Kelly's voice was barely a whisper, but it carried so much more than just her confusion. It was vulnerability, a longing she hadn't fully acknowledged until now.
Scarlet smiled softly, her hand gently tilting Kelly's chin up, making their gazes meet. "You don't have to answer right away, Kel," she said quietly, her voice steady but warm. "I just wanted you to know, you're the most precious thing I've ever had in my life. And I don't ever want to let you go."
For a moment, Kelly just stood there, lost in Scarlet's gaze, the words swirling around her. She couldn't deny the pull she felt, the way Scarlet made her feel seen and valued. But this... this was a different kind of confession, a deeper layer to the connection they'd been building. Scarlet wasn't just asking for something physical—she was offering her heart, a vulnerability that matched Kelly's own unspoken fears.
Kelly swallowed hard, her hand reaching up to gently touch Scarlet's arm. "You don't need to do all this, you know," she murmured. "I... I'm already here, with you. I think I've been here for a while."
Scarlet's expression softened, her eyes flickering with something raw and tender. Without another word, she leaned in, brushing her lips against Kelly's forehead in a lingering kiss. "Then, I guess I've unwrapped the best present of all."
Kelly closed her eyes, her heart full, as she let the moment wash over her. Scarlet's words, her actions, and the warmth between them—this was something Kelly had never quite known she needed until now. And for the first time in a long time, she felt like she had found a place where she truly belonged.
