Part 40 Custom
Khushi looked at Raizadas surprisingly who were getting down from the car. Anjali had a smile on her lips and a plate in her hand. Khushi understood why they were in Nainital. She looked at Arnav who was smirking.
Shashi and Garima welcomed Raizadas. They took Raizadas inside and treated them with hot coffee. Neither Khushi saw nervousness nor shock on her parents' faces. They coolly welcomed Raizadas. Arnav would have informed them about their arrival. It seems she is the only one who is unaware of it.
"Before started talking about anything, we want to thank you for saving our Chotte's life and for treating him," Anjali said.
"You have already thanked me for that, bitiya" Shashi smiled.
"We owe to thank you for our whole life for what you did for us uncle," Anjali said.
"Being a doctor, it's my duty to treat a person who is struggling for his life. That's what I did" Shashi said simply.
"We are here to ask Khushi's hand for Arnav... He likes her very much and we are happy to have her as our Bahu" Nani said.
Shashi looked at Khushi with a smile.
"Garima told me Khushi always fought with Arnav when he was here... will it be a good decision of marrying her to him?" Shashi asked teasingly.
Khushi looked at him widening her eyes that made Arnav chuckle. Others wondered, seeing him pulling Khushi's leg.
"What say Arnav?" Shashi asked.
"At the same time, he liked Arnav Singh Raizada so much. Don't you know that uncle?" he asked.
"That means you are here as ASR..."
"Can't deny. After all, I'm Arnav Singh Raizada" Arnav smiled.
"Enough of playing with words... be serious," Garima said making a serious face.
"Yup... I'm gladly giving my daughter's hand to Arnav" Shashi said.
Nani gestured to Anjali to give Shagun to Khushi. She nodded yes and handed the plate she brought to perform Shagun.
"You are half Raizada bahu... officially," Anjali said.
Khushi looked at Arnav who lifted his brows with a smirk. Khushi bowed down with reddened cheeks.
"Fix the marriage date as per your comfort," Shashi said.
"The wedding will be the first of next month," Arnav said.
"Next month? There are only eight days for next month" Shashi asked shockingly.
"Yeah... do you have any problem?"
"No... not at all..."
"The marriage will take place in Nainital. I don't want your people to struggle to attend the marriage. So, we will do it here." Arnav said.
"What about your people?" Shashi asked.
"We will arrange a reception in Delhi," Said Arnav.
"We will come to Nainital, four days before the marriage to perform the needed rituals," Anjali said.
"We have no idea what your rituals are..." Nani said.
"No no Naniji, there is no difference between yours and our rituals... we both are the same. In fact, we are not belonging to Nainital. Our ancestor settled in Nainital a few decades ago..." Shashi said.
"Oh, then what is your native?" Manorama asked.
"Varanasi...actually, we are Guptas. I have stopped having our surname long ago..."
"Oh... is it?"
Shashi nodded yes.
"Then, there won't be any confusion in following wedding rituals..." Anjali said cheerfully.
Garima nodded yes smilingly.
The wedding date was fixed.
Raizadas had a good time with the Gupta family. They liked each other. Raizadas liked Guptas values whereas Shashi and Garima liked Raizada's simplicity.
Garima asked them to have breakfast. Khushi saw everything ready. More to her surprise, she saw a new dining table in the room. She dragged Garima aloof.
"Amma, when did you buy the table?" Khushi asked.
"Yesterday..."
"But, why?"
"For Arnav's family. They are not used to sitting on the floor, right? (Khushi nodded yes) How could we make them do it here? It won't be comfortable for them, especially for their Nani... We should not make them embarrassed. That's why Shashiji bought it. See, they have decided to perform the wedding in Nainital. That means, they will come to our house a few more times. So, it won't go useless."
Khushi nodded yes.
"When did you know we are coming to Nainital?" Khushi asked.
"Two days ago, Arnav bituwa called Shashiji and told him"
"Oh..."
"You didn't know, right?"
Khushi nodded yes pouting.
"Go and bring the food to the table. I will call them for breakfast" Garima laughed.
Khushi arranged the breakfast table. She was happy about Shashi's decision of buying a new dining table. She was thinking about where to make Arnav sit. It was different when he stayed here but now, everything changed. He is Arnav Singh Raizada after all.
Garima and Khushi served them breakfast. Arnav didn't join them.
"You too have Arnav bituwa..." Garima said.
"I will have later aunty... they are going to Nanda Devi Temple"
"Haan, aunty, we planned to visit the Temple on the way to Delhi," Anjali said.
"Won't you go to the Temple, Arnav bituwa?" Garima asked.
"Chotte, won't like to visit Temple," Anjali said.
"Are you going to go to Delhi alone?" Garima asked that made everyone stop eating.
They spared a glance.
"I will go with Khushi..." Arnav said.
"Actually, you got engaged... there is only a week left for your wedding. I think it won't be good if she stays in your place." Garima said.
"But..."
"She is right Chotte. This is also a ritual. Groom and Bride should not be together until the marriage" Nani said.
Arnav rolled his eyes.
"Amma, I just joined in the job," Khushi said.
"Send a leave letter to your Boss" Garima chuckled.
"But, Amma..."
"No, Khushi... you shouldn't..." This time Garima said strictly.
Arnav knew how orthodox Garima was. She was not even ready to send Khushi to the job. He looked at Khushi who looked disappointed.
"Will you come with us, Chotte?" Anjali asked.
"No, di... I will come with NK and I have to go to the police station to close the case..." Arnav said.
"NK? Is he here?" Akash asked.
Arnav nodded yes.
"Then where is he? Why didn't he come here?"
"He will come..."
"Call us when you start from Nainital," Anjali said.
Arnav nodded ok.
Raizadas took Gupta's leave.
"Let's eat Arnav," Shashi said.
Arnav nodded yes and joined Shashi.
"You too join us," Arnav said looking at Khushi and Garima.
"Come on," Shashi said.
Garima gestured for Khushi to sit. After serving them, Garima also joined them.
"Don't take us wrong, Arnav. The Customs of the villagers differ from yours. People are not broad-minded here. We have a responsibility to give our daughter's hand without any flaws..."
Cutting him,
"What do you mean FLAWS, uncle? I know Khushi and I won't give damn to any rubbish"
"But, we do... even Khushi do... do you want to make her feel low?"
Arnav was silent.
"Just a week, Arnav... it will fly in a blink of an eye," Shashi said with a smile.
Though Arnav didn't say anything he was dissatisfied. If he had known this would happen, he would not have brought Khushi to Nainital.
Shashi finished eating as a few patients were waiting for him.
"I have to go, Arnav..."
"You just carry on, uncle. I will leave in a few minutes..." Arnav said.
Shashi nodded ok and left the place. Garima also went with him as Shashi had no helpers after Khushi and NK left. Khushi sat with Arnav.
"Take care," He said.
Khushi nodded ok.
"I will call you every day"
"Mmm"
"NK will be here anytime..."
"Oh..."
"I have to go"
She nodded ok. Arnav stood from the chair. he walked towards the entrance and stopped. He again came back to her and hugged her, circling her waist.
"I will miss you..." he said.
"I too will..."
Breaking the hug, he pecked her forehead strongly.
"Call me..."
She nodded ok. Arnav walked out. Taking Khushi's parent's leave, he left GH.
He went to the police station and finished the formality to close the case. At the same time, NK came there.
"Have you finished?" Arnav asked.
"Yes, Bhai... I have sent HIM with Rohan sir" NK said.
"Good... let's go"
"Doesn't Khushi come with us?"
Arnav nodded no disappointedly.
"But why?"
"Custom..." he said annoyingly.
"Don't worry Bhai, she will be with you soon... forever" NK said.
"That's the only reason I'm silent" Arnav started the car towards Delhi half-heartedly.
To be continued...
