18-U-Turn Into a Brick Wall
There was an odd smell in the room, and it was almost pitch black. Closing the door behind him, Taehyung squinted at the bed. He could only see one shape curled up on it, some of the blankets pulled back as if someone else had crawled out from under them. So Yoongi was alone then.
Taehyung exhaled slowly, moving to his corner to get what he needed and get back out. Unfortunately he couldn't see very well in the dark and forgot about his laptop and headphones, tripping over the wires and falling into the wall with a bitten-back yelp.
There was a groan of annoyance from under the mass of blankets, Yoongi rousing a little at the noise. Eyes cracking open, he pushed the blankets back enough so he could look towards where he'd heard the sound. "...Tae?" he murmured, lifting a hand to rub at his eyes. "You okay?"
Taehyung slid down the wall to sit on the floor, finding it easier than to attempt standing back up. He looked up, eyes landing on the bed when Yoongi spoke. "Y..." he cleared his throat to stop it from cracking. "Yeah, I'm good. Sorry. Didn't mean to wake you up." The trip had sent his heart racing, but now that he'd recovered his sense of balance the uncomfortable thudding in his chest didn't seem to want to go away. He turned his attention to disentangling his foot from the wires, making sure he didn't accidentally break anything. Good, laptop and headphones were both fine.
"Probably should be getting up anyway," Yoongi grumbled, sitting up. "... What time is it?" he asked, rolling his head to ease the kinks. With the blankets pooled at his waist, there was no hiding some of the marks on his frame from the night before, the bruise on his shoulder from a bite the most obvious, and painful.
"About noon," Taehyung said, successfully freeing himself from the wires grasp. He looked up at Yoongi, and he wished for a moment his vision hadn't started adjusting to the darkness. He quickly looked back down and away, shifting onto his knees so he could crawl over to his small shelves of stacked clothes. He busied himself picking out new ones. "There's, ah... there's food, at Jimin and Hoseok's place."
"Yeah? That's good," Yoongi nodded, watching him as he scrubbed a hand through his hair. "I think my head might explode before then, I think I drank way too much last night. I barely remember getting home."
"Oh." So Yoongi didn't remember stumbling in last night with a stranger? That should make this easier, right?
Gathering up his clothes in his arms, Taehyung picked up his shower basket and stood. "Jimin and Hoseok hyung are waking up eomma and Namjoon hyung. They got back late too. I'll see you downstairs?" He made a beeline for the door, careful not to trip over his stuff again.
"... Okay?" Yoongi watched him go with a frown. Taehyung was twitchier than usual. Brushing aside the blankets, Yoongi took a second to look down at himself. Oh. That's right, someone had helped him home. A kid with a bright smile and eager hands. He didn't remember much after the last shot they'd taken, though he had bits and pieces of sharing a taxi and almost not making it home at all with how eager the kid was. So what had happened after that?
Brushing it aside to think about when his head didn't feel like splitting open, Yoongi got to his feet and pulled on some clothes. He needed food before a shower. Slipping on his shoes, he shuffled out of the room and glanced down the hall where he could see Jimin and Hoseok pressed up against Namjoon's door, whispering together. "Yah, what are you two doing?" he asked, heading towards them and the elevators.
Hoseok blinked, looking back at Yoongi with a grin. "Well, don't you look like death warmed over. We're checking on the other two happy drunks, obviously."
"They're not awake yet? That's not like either of them," Yoongi said, reaching between them and pounding on the door. "Yah, you two okay in there?"
"Namjoon's gonna kill you," Jimin said, backing away. He'd only seen Namjoon hung over a couple of times, and everyone knew to step lightly. Except Yoongi, but Yoongi was half dead anyway so it probably didn't matter.
"As long as he doesn't kill us too," Hoseok followed Jimin in backing away. It was just safer to stay out of the line of fire in case that door came flying open.
"Go away, Yoongi," Namjoon's voice floated out after a minute of banging.
"Someone made food, it'll go bad if you don't come out and eat," Yoongi said, ignoring the warning and hitting the door again. "Come on, we've got stuff to do today, get up!"
"We'll be there, just go!"
Hoseok linked his hands behind his head. "The longer they take to open that door, the more I'm convinced there's a mad scramble for clothes happening behind it."
Yoongi glanced at Hoseok out of the corner of his eye, snorting a little before pounding on the door again. "Namjoon, get your dick outta Jin and let's go eat!"
"Well, shit," Jimin took off towards the elevator, not looking back.
Hoseok had a lesser sense of self-preservation, so he hung out halfway down the hallway to see Namjoon finally open the door, having found some clothes by then. Even if they were rather disheveled and not entirely on properly. "Min Yoongi, I will delete every copy of your composition if you don't fuck off."
"Eh... I'll take that risk," Yoongi shrugged. "So uh... you and eomma huh? How was it?"
Namjoon reached out, seizing Yoongi's ear and twisting. "Go. Away."
"Ow, ow, okay, fine you big gorilla," Yoongi pushed ineffectively at Namjoon's arm. "Eomma, he's killing me!"
"Don't you dare try and get sympathy out of me," Jin's voice floated from inside.
Namjoon held onto Yoongi's ear a bit longer in warning before shoving him away from the door. He shut the door again, sighing heavily as he leaned against it. "I could really kill him some days."
"Today I think I would let you," Jin said, looking up from where he was rummaging through Namjoon's drawer for a shirt. They weren't that dissimilar in size, but his shoulder's were a bit wider. Luckily everything Namjoon seemed to own was a size too big. "He's going to be absolutely obnoxious all day, you know that right?"
"You mean he wasn't normally?" Namjoon made his way back to sit on the edge of the bed, running one hand through his mused hair. "Hoseok was out there too, which means he and Jimin aren't going to be much better."
"At least those two have some sense of self preservation, Yoongi doesn't," Jin sighed, finding a plain gray tshirt to pull on. Turning back to Namjoon, he couldn't help but smile at how cute his boyfriend looked right at that moment. Rumpled clothes, hair in disarray, and sleepy eyes. Taking a couple of steps towards him, he rested a hand on Namjoon's shoulder before sliding into his lap. "But, even if they do tease us all day, I'd say it's a small price if I got to wake up next to you this morning."
Namjoon looked up at Jin, arms automatically going around the older man's waist to support him. He smiled sleepily, one hand lifting to run through Jin's blond locks. "Maybe tomorrow... we can wake up to something that isn't Yoongi?" His thumb brushed against Jin's soft cheek.
"You know that would mean waking up before him," Jin chuckled, leaning into the touch. "You ready to go face them?"
"...One more minute," Namjoon whispered, using the light touch to draw Jin down into a kiss. Unlike the heated ones of the night before, this was sweet and gentle, a good morning kiss as his fingers slid back into Jin's hair, other hand against his boyfriend's waist.
Jin was happy to return the kiss, savoring the quiet few moments like this before all hell was going to break loose. He probably let the kiss linger a bit longer than necessary, but finally pulled back to get to his feet. "Were you serious about deleting Yoongi's song?" he asked, finding his shoes and pulling them on.
"No, which is probably why he didn't stop," Namjoon sighed, standing up. "But I might stop working on it for a couple weeks to make a point if he keeps being insufferable."
"Me too," Jin nodded, opening the door and holding out his hand for Namjoon to take. "Though I may poison his breakfast in the morning so he has to deal with stomach cramps all day."
Namjoon blinked at the offered hand. Then his lips curled into a smile and he reached out, fingers curling around Jin's. "That may be a punishment more for Taehyung than Yoongi, he's the one who has to deal with a grouchy roommate." They stepped out of the room together, Namjoon closing the door behind them.
"When isn't Yoongi grouchy though, at least he'd have something real to complain about," Jin huffed, walking slowly towards the elevator.
Namjoon just laughed at that, rubbing his eyes with his free hand. "How's your head?" He asked as they waited for the elevator to show up. "You drank a lot more than you usually do last night."
"Feels like someone took a jackhammer to my temples," Jin said with a small laugh. "Not the worst hangover I've ever had. You?"
"Mild headache. Yoongi made it worse, but I'll live," Namjoon snorted. They got into the elevator, Namjoon brushing his thumb against the back of Jin's hand.
"That's what he's good at," Jin hummed, leaning up against Namjoon as the elevator made it's way down to the other floor. He could probably fall asleep again like this, soaking in Namjoon's warmth.
Jin was glad that when he knocked on the other's door, it was Jimin who opened it. He gave the two a knowing smile, wiggling his eyebrows at him, but otherwise was mercifully silent as he moved out of the way to let them in.
Hoseok was busy unwrapping bowls of food from where they'd been keeping warm so that the three new arrivals could eat. Minus the obvious exception of Jungkook, the others were all there, except... "Where's Taehyung?" Namjoon asked, pointedly ignoring Yoongi as he brought Jin to sit away from the other man.
"Shower," Hoseok said, grinning up at them both. "Have a good night's sleep?" An innocent question that was definitely not innocent coming from any of those present.
"You know what, we did," Jin said, sitting down at the table. "And if you all are going to give us shit then fine, but tell me what were you all doing last night? I know Yoongi left with someone, Jimin disappeared the moment we got to the bar, and Hoseok... I already know just by your grin what you were up to."
"Then why ask the question if you already know the answer?" Hoseok snorted, finishing setting out the bowls and dropping back to sit out of the way. "C'mon eomma, you two have been dancing around each other for years, we're just happy for you."
"You could be happier in a less annoying way, Yoongi," Jin said, glancing over at Yoongi who was already eating.
"Yeah well, oh well," Yoongi shrugged. "Just try not to have sex too loud, the neighbors kind of frown on it. Personal experience and all."
".. I was the neighbor who complained," Jin scowled at Yoongi. "I'm glad we were at the other end of the building than you if that bruise is anything to go by," he pointed out the bruise that was peeking out from under Yoongi's shirt.
"... I don't know what you're talking about," Yoongi said simply.
"I don't know why you're even trying to deny it," Namjoon sighed.
Hoseok snickered. "You could stand to take your own advice, Yoongi, especially since you have a roommate now. And no dividing doors. At least Namjoon and Jin had the decency to move to an unoccupied room."
"What are you talking about?" Yoongi looked at Hoseok in confusion.
"Yoongi... hyung... you came home with someone last night, and scared the shit out of Taetae, the way he says it, you weren't really aware that he was in the room still," Jimin said, watching the expression on Yoongi's face. "That's why he came here last night and slept here."
Setting his spoon down, Yoongi sat back in his chair and stared down at the table. He vaguely remembered coming home, and falling into bed with someone, but Taehyung couldn't have been there, he wouldn't have done that. The memories were slowly coming back though and he had a glimpse of a shocked look on Taehyung's face before he bolted from the room.
"Shit," Yoongi groaned, covering his face with his hands. That would explain why Taehyung had been acting so weird this morning. "I fucked up."
Namjoon frowned, glancing at Jin beside him. "Is Taehyung alright?" Based off Yoongi's reaction, he felt there was something here they were missing.
"He seemed fine this morning, fine enough to make breakfast and not burn the apartment down," Hoseok said with a shrug. "Understandably not so keen to crawl back into the lion's den."
"Fuck off Hoseok," Yoongi got up, scrubbing his hand through his hair. "This shit isn't funny."
"No one thinks it's funny," Jin said. "But it's definitely a problem. You're going to have to apologize to him, and actually mean it."
"Yeah, thanks, as if I didn't fucking know that Jin," Yoongi scowled, heading for the door, slamming it on his way out.
"... Well, I guess on the plus side, everyone got some last night," Jimin said, hugging his knees to his chest.
That struck Jin funny and he tilted his head at Jimin. "Wait... you mean you and Taehyung?"
"Oh god no," Jimin made a face at that, quickly realizing what he'd said and clapped a hand over his mouth.
"What?" Namjoon looked confused then. His next thought was Hoseok (it had already happened once after all), but when he saw the way Hoseok's smile had slipped of his face, his mind went to the next possibility. "...Wait, Jungkook?" He frowned at Jimin. "You went to find Jungkook last night."
Jimin's lack of response and how he averted his eyes confirmed it and Jin wasn't sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing.
"So.. did you two talk then, working things out?" Jin asked. He was pretty sure he knew the answer, because if they had, then Jimin wouldn't look the way he was.
"No, he wanted to but.. I didn't," Jimin said quietly. "It just happened alright, not like it's something we haven't done a hundred times before."
"But Jimin... I thought you guys broke up because that's not what you wanted?" Jin sighed a little, but blinked when something occurred to him. "Wait, you had sex in my apartment?!" Jimin flinched.
"Sorry?"
"Whose idea was it to go clubbing last night? Cause we're never doing that again," Jin groaned, covering his eyes with his hand.
"It was your new hubby's idea," Hoseok piped up helpfully.
"Don't try pinning your actions on me," Namjoon huffed. "You're all responsible for your own poor decisions."
"Can I just go back to bed and restart today?" Jin grumbled, feeling his headache getting worse. "You kids make my head hurt."
Yoongi wasn't entirely sure if Taehyung was going to stop back at their apartment after his shower, so after leaving the other's he went back upstairs and camped out next to the bathroom door. Luckily no one else on their floor seemed all that active today and he didn't get any strange looks.
Save for the one he got when Taehyung left the bathroom a few minutes later and nearly tripped on one of Yoongi's feet. He moved back out of the way before realizing who it was. "Ah... hyung?" He blinked at Yoongi in surprise. "There's multiple shower stalls..."
Standing up quickly, Yoongi looked at Taehyung, a little lost as to what to say now. "Um... I.. need to talk to you," he said. "Can we talk?"
Taehyung looked a little confused and uncomfortable with the way Yoongi was looking at him, but nodded. "Course." He lifted his free hand to wipe away the drips of water falling from his damp hair, before turning to walk back to their room.
It took Yoongi a little bit to work up the courage to say something once they were back in the room, sitting next to each other on the futon. "So... I'm an asshole," he said finally. "Which you already know, and I proved it again last night. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that, I should have... been thinking, shouldn't have got so drunk. I'm really sorry that... that happened."
Taehyung was quiet for a moment, arms wrapped around one knee. He wasn't sure what to say to that. What to say that wouldn't give rise to more awkward conversation than he wanted to deal with just then. "...It's fine," he said finally, looking up and trying for a smile. "It's your room too, and it was your room first. I don't have a problem with it. Maybe, just... a warning text would be appreciated? That's all."
"There won't be a next time," Yoongi said quietly, shaking his head. "It's not fine, and I hate that you keep saying that when I fuck up. Be pissed at me for once, cause I know you had a problem with it, I have a fucking problem with it and I'm the one that did it. Yell at me, hit me, do something other than tell me that you don't care."
"What?" Taehyung frowned, turning his head to look at Yoongi beside him. "I don't understand, why would I do any of that? It... wasn't a very pleasant surprise, but I'm not pissed at you. We've only been roommates for two weeks. It was an honest mistake. And you apologized, so why would I hold it against you?"
"Because I'm a shitty person who does shitty things to the people around him," Yoongi said, his hands clasped loosely in front of him. "I didn't even take you into consideration when we went out, didn't even think about why you weren't going with us, cause I wanted to get laid." He laughed a little bitterly, shaking his head. "The worst part, is I really like you, but I keep thinking that you should get the hell away from me, because I'm no good for you. But I don't want to let go."
Taehyung's eyebrows were furrowed, trying to figure out a way to respond to the first half of Yoongi's statement. But then he was distracted, because... what? "You... like me?" he asked, confusion overriding the small sliver of something closer to hope in his voice. "What do you mean by that?" As a friend. Yoongi only meant it as a friend. He had to.
It seemed like an eternity before Yoongi could respond, taking in a deep breath. "Exactly as you think it means," he said, finally looking up and at Taehyung. "And if that makes you uncomfortable, then maybe us living together isn't going to work out."
Taehyung's eyes widened a little, gaze flicking up to meet Yoongi's. He swallowed thickly, throat working, words failing him. How was he supposed to describe what a confession like that made him feel? Both elated, and scared witless because he knew that it just wasn't going to work out?
He had to look away first, gaze dropping back to his leg outstretched in front of him. "...Hyung... I don't like sex."
That wasn't exactly the response Yoongi had expected, and his brow furrowed in confusion at the admission. He was also a little hung over still and his brain was not firing on all cylinders "Like... with men, or... just in general," he asked.
"In general," Taehyung said, gaze firmly on his foot in front of him. The only reason he was saying anything at all was because Jimin had said the night before that... there was nothing wrong with him. Jimin had been fine with it, and Jimin had sex a whole lot more than Yoongi did. "That's why I didn't go out last night, and why I was uncomfortable with the body shots and stuff. And that's why... I don't think I'm a good person for you to like."
"Well, that... explains a lot," Yoongi said quietly, looking down at his hands again. "I thought you just hated me or something." He shook his head, lifting one of his hands to touch Taehyung on the shoulder gently. "Thank you for telling me, I know that had to have been hard. But, you're wrong about something. You are a good person to like, but... probably not right for me."
Taehyung's gaze lifted up, meeting Yoongi's eyes. Yoongi had confirmed his own thoughts, that no matter what their feelings were, Taehyung just couldn't be that special person in his life. There was no point in telling Yoongi that he liked him back. It would only make this harder.
"...I'm sorry, hyung," he said, deeper voice quiet and heart sitting like a stone in his chest. "Are we still okay?"
".... Honestly, I don't know," Yoongi said, shaking his head a little. "I feel like the biggest asshole sitting here, confessing to you after bringing a guy home, and then you tell me something I should have picked up on, but didn't. I just feel like an idiot with a broken heart, and I'm not fond of this feeling. I'm sorry, I'm rambling," he groaned, rubbing his eyes.
Taehyung looked up at him, at a loss for words. There was nothing he could say, really. He could have tried hiding that he didn't like sex, but that would have only lasted so long before it resulted in the same messy, tear-filled breakup it had last time. It was better to just never get started.
He lifted one hand, resting it against Yoongi's shoulder. Then he leaned closer to rest his cheek against Yoongi's arm, closing his eyes and arm wrapping around him loosely.
As much as it sucked, Yoongi took a little comfort from Taehyung trying to be so nice to him. It was the first time Yoongi had ever really confessed to anyone, he'd never really liked anyone enough to do so. The fact that Taehyung had been so gentle in letting him down that's what made it hurt the worst.
Turning his head a little, he looked down at Taehyung and smiled sadly. "Tae... can.. I?" he murmured, lifting his hand to touch Taehyung lightly on the cheek. "... Just once.. And that'll be it."
Taehyung blinked at the touch to his cheek, gaze going up to Yoongi. He knew what Yoongi was asking. Though the idea sent nerves crawling down his spine, he just nodded, eyes trusting. Once was fine.
Yoongi could feel his heart hammering in his chest as he stared at Taehyung for a long moment before leaning in. Keeping his hand against Taehyung's soft cheek, his eyes slipped closed and he pressed a light kiss to the younger's lips. He didn't let it linger, pulling back after just a moment. He was almost too afraid to open his eyes, scared of what Taehyung's reaction would be. His eyes did open though, slowly as he looked back up into the other's eyes.
Taehyung had closed his own eyes during the light kiss, head tilting just enough to press back softly. He was used to feeling just... nothing during kisses. Usually boredom, or mild discomfort if the kiss was getting a little too intense for his liking. Or just shock, in the case of Jimin's sudden kiss in the sound booth. Certainly he never seemed to feel what other people felt, and it took him a long time to understand why people even liked kissing in the first place. It always seemed bordering between awkward and messy.
But in the few seconds the kiss lasted, he felt... a creeping warmth. Well, Yoongi's body was warm so that should have made sense, but the warmth wasn't from body heat. But before he could figure out where it was coming from, the kiss was over.
Taehyung's eyes remained closed for a long moment, before slowly opening. When he saw Yoongi looking down at him, expression uncharacteristically vulnerable... he couldn't help but smile, the corners of his eyes crinkling. "...I hope that wasn't too bad."
Yoongi laughed softly at that, confused by the way Taehyung was looking at him. "That's what I should be asking you, you okay? That wasn't.. Too much I hope, I'm sorry if it is, I've... just been really... really curious for a while now."
"It wasn't too much," Taehyung agreed, because somehow saying it was 'fine' or 'okay' was shortchanging Yoongi's kissing ability. "It was... nice." Which was more than he could say about kissing literally anyone else.
After a moment, he shifted forward to wrap both arms around Yoongi's waist. He rested his cheek against the man's shoulder. "It's not the same as kissing or sex... but even if I can't be what you need, I can always provide hugs. Or be your body pillow."
"... Friends, right," Yoongi nodded, feeling a little bit like he had whiplash. He thought being around Taehyung was confusing before, but he was pretty sure it was going to be even worse now. "So, we still on for the studio today? I might have pissed off Jin and Namjoon too bad for them to go today."
Taehyung nodded against Yoongi's shoulder, reluctantly pulling back after a moment. "Of course. It'll be fun," he smiled up at Yoongi. "I'll try to be more help this time."
"We'll see about that," Yoongi snorted, getting to his feet. "Let's go see if we can wrangle the other two kids, Hoseok's got more work on his part to do."
"I don't know if they're going to want to do much work if you've got them there together," Taehyung pointed out, climbing up to his feet as well. Right now, he was just glad they seemed to be okay again. Even if the outcome of the conversation... well... there was no point wishing for something that couldn't happen.
"I don't think it would matter if it was just one or all of them, they've all got the attention span of gnats," Yoongi grumbled. "Uh... I think I'm going to take a shower first though, I'll meet you downstairs?"
"Sure," Taehyung nodded, nudging his stuff out of the way. He stooped to put his laptop away in his backpack and grab his phone, which needed to be charged but it would at least last him till they were in the studio. "I'll ask the others if they wanna come with."
"Sounds good, though I'd tip toe around Jin and Namjoon, they might be a little... angry," Yoongi said, giving him a sheepish smile.
"Angry?" Taehyung looked back at Yoongi in confusion. "Why would they be angry?"
"Oh... kind of sort of was harassing them this morning because they uh... fucked last night," Yoongi said, cringing a little. "Namjoon pulled my ear and threatened to delete my song if I didn't stop bothering them."
"Oh," Taehyung blinked at that. "Okay. I won't ask them if they had fun at the bar then. See you downstairs." He ducked out of the door, heading back down to the other room.
