8-Now.... kiss
Jin was pretty sure Namjoon had said something, and that it was important, but his head was still trying to understand the words. "You... want to? Again?" he asked, pulling his head out of his hands looking at Namjoon warily. He wasn't lying right? This wasn't Namjoon trying to be funny, cause Namjoon wasn't funny like that. "I... don't think it would be horrible," he said, the hope clear in his tone. Did this mean what he thought it meant?
Well... it wasn't an outright rejection. Though Jin was too nice to do something like that anyways, he would have at least made an effort to dissuade Namjoon from following through, right?
Gaze flicking away for a moment to gather his resolve, Namjoon turned more towards Jin. "...Can I?"
Trying to keep his breathing steady and willing his heart to stop beating so harshly against his ribs, Jin gave a small little nod. "Yeah, if you want to that is," he murmured.
Well, it was now or never. Namjoon doubted he'd get the courage to try again if he passed up on this chance. He took in Jin's expression, trying to judge what he might be thinking, before leaning in to kiss his cheek. It was by chance he was sitting on the same side of Jin as he had been at the party, lips pressing against the soft skin for a brief moment before pulling back a little.
He looked into Jin's eyes, still leaning in, their faces so close together as he judged the older man's reaction. Then Namjoon leaned in again, just enough to softly kiss Jin's lips.
It took every ounce of Jin's willpower not to pass out at the kiss on the cheek, and then came the kiss to his lips that him squeaking in surprise. Was this really happening? Was Namjoon actually kissing him? Yes, yes he was, and it was everything Jin had hoped it would be.
Somewhere inside Jin's mind a dam broke and before Namjoon could pull away, Jin's hands came up to the younger's jaw, framing his face to keep him still as he pressed for a firmer kiss.
Namjoon had just been planning... well... he hadn't been planning, really, he'd just acted. But he thought after a short, awkward kiss he'd pull away, and hopefully wouldn't have to salvage their friendship. But then Jin's fingers touched his jaw, holding him in place, and all thoughts of pulling away disappeared. One hand rested against Jin's knee for balance as they kissed, Namjoon's eyes closed.
At some point during this hasty kiss, Jin's brain caught up to what the rest of him was doing and it was like a siren went off in his head. Pulling back quickly and looking at Namjoon with wide eyes, Jin opened his mouth to say something, but words were escaping him and he gaped like a fish for a few seconds. "I'm... I'm sorry, I... that... shouldn't have.... I'm sorry," he mumbled in panic, looking for an escape, anything, but he forgot how to use his legs.
Caught off guard by the sudden break in the kiss, Namjoon opened his eyes, seeing the look of utter panic on Jin's face. "...Jin?" Had he misread? "I... that was... that was too much, wasn't it." He swallowed, leaning back. When he saw Jin was trying to stand, he quickly reached out, taking the older man's hand. "Seokjin... wait, please. I'm sorry, I thought... I must have misread. I'm sorry."
Taking in a deep breath, Jin closed his eyes to calm down. This wasn't as big of a deal as he was making it. It was just a kiss, and Namjoon had been willing, maybe even a little eager for it? Isn't that what he wanted? "No... you didn't misread," Jin said softly, opening his eyes. Looking down at the hand holding his own, Jin gently squeezed Namjoon's hand.
Namjoon blinked, looking down at Jin's hand. His neutral expression didn't do justice to his nerves, anxiously hoping that Jin meant what he thought he did. If he was wrong about this...
"Look at me?" Namjoon asked quietly. "I... really like you, Jin. I have for a long time."
Jin swayed a little at the confession.. This was not what he had been expecting, never thought Namjoon looked at him in such a way. Now, he just needed to not fuck this up. "Funny... I've... liked you for a long time too," he said softly, finally looking up at Namjoon's eyes. "This isn't a dream, right?"
Namjoon's lips formed a smile that was equal parts relieved and hopeful, his fingers linking more securely with Jin's. "I don't think so," he murmured. "Unless we're both having the same dream."
Jin's expression softened into a smile and he leaned forward a little, looking at Namjoon in question. "So... what do we do now?"
"I don't know," Namjoon admitted a little sheepishly. "I wasn't really thinking past confessing and having to salvage our friendship when you didn't feel the same way."
Jin let out a small laugh at that, unable to help it as he put his other hand over Namjoon's and stroked the soft skin. "At least you had the guts to do it," he said. "Um... I've never... been in any kind of anything with anyone so... I don't know how this works, but isn't the first step, a date?"
"...Yeah," Namjoon replied softly, smiling up at him. "Saturday, are you free? Gives us half the week to figure out what we want to do."
"Yeah, Saturday is good," Jin nodded. "Um.. so what song did you want to sing?" he asked, eyes dancing as he bit his lip, holding back a giddy laugh. This had to be a dream, even if it didn't feel like one.
Namjoon chuckled, reminded of what they had been doing. "No idea." He couldn't help but lean in again, pressing a soft kiss to Jin's mouth before he straightened. He kept his hand linked with Jin's as he shifted to look through the computer again. "Any of these look interesting?"
"Are any of these ones you worked on?" Jin asked, the smile unwilling to leave his face, and probably wouldn't for a while yet. "If you don't mind sharing any of them with me anyway."
"Sure, as long as you don't have high expectations," Namjoon chuckled. "A lot of them are still demos." He found one near the middle of the list, starting the track and leaning back.
"Demos or not, they always sound amazing," Jin said. "I have another confession to make, I've made Yoongi give me all the tracks you've worked on. I think I know them by heart at this point."
Namjoon blinked, then laughed at that, shaking his head. "I hope he hasn't given you the ones we've scrapped. Not all of them turned out decent." He looked at Jin with a wry smile. "So does that mean you can sing them with me?" Not all of his songs were strictly rap.
"I think I can hold my own," Jin nodded, leaning over him a little to point at a particular song on the list. "This one's my favorite. It's a slow enough tempo I can keep up, even if most of it is english."
"Alright," Namjoon grinned, leaning over to pick the song. He noticed Jin's phone blinking at them then. "You've got a message."
Picking up his phone from where he'd set it on the table, Jin's lips pursed a little. "Hoseok got back to me," he said, responding to the text. "And Yoongi was having trouble getting Jimin out of the bathroom but they're on their way back now. Letting Hoseok know what happened."
Namjoon frowned, turning the seat around to watch what Jin was doing. He leaned over Jin's shoulder to see what was being written.
While Hoseok had taken his sweet time responding to Jin's first message (apparently getting food was more important), when Jin messaged that Jimin had sent out an SOS, Hoseok's response was blinding fast. Where is he?
Jin responded, letting Hoseok know he was on his way to the studio with Yoongi. "For someone who likes to proclaim that he's straight as an arrow, sometimes I think Hoseok would bend for Jimin, he's got such a soft spot for the kid."
Namjoon blinked, looking up at Jin with a wry smile. "They did sleep together, once. Before Jungkook showed up. I'm surprised you haven't heard about it, considering neither of them have any idea what 'too much information' means."
"Sometimes when Hoseok talks I just think about... other things," Jin confessed. "He makes my head hurt. But I didn't know they had hooked up, guess that explains..." he trailed off when he heard footsteps outside and the door opening.
"Jin eomma?" Jimin shuffled in the door, seeing Jin his face crumpled and he began to bawl, coming forward as Jin got to his feet. Enveloping the younger in a hug, Jin walked him over to sit on the couch, cradling Jimin against him.
"Fucker was still there, pounding on the door," Yoongi, who had come in behind Jimin looked like a thunderhead. "Took off when he saw me so I didn't get a good look at him," he said to Namjoon, though his eyes were on Jimin and Jin.
Namjoon nodded to show he'd heard, most of his attention on the other two as well. His jaw clenched and unclenched for a moment before he sighed in frustration. "Did Jimin mention if he knew who it was?" he asked quietly once Yoongi had stopped beside him, so that he wouldn't disturb Jin and Jimin.
"No, he didn't really say much once I convinced him to open the door," Yoongi said, dropping into the empty chair. "What is it about Jimin that makes people go crazy? I don't get it. He's like... pure fluff, why does anyone want to hurt fluff?"
"You're asking the wrong person," Namjoon said quietly, watching them as Jimin bawled into Jin's arms.
It was about five minutes later when the door opened again, Hoseok stumbling in. He was panting heavily, looking around to see Jimin on the couch balled up in Jin's arms. "...Jimin?" He shuffled closer.
"Hyung?" Jimin's eyes were barely open, cheeks stained red from the tears and his lips trembling. "Hyung it was... that freshman, he... hyung," he couldn't even get the words out, collapsing back into Jin as he sobbed.
"I thought you and Jimin had class together Hoseok, you didn't see what was going on?" Yoongi asked with a bitter tone. "Where the fuck were you?"
Hoseok completely ignored Yoongi, making a beeline for the couch. He crouched down in front of it, hands resting against Jimin's arm. "That same one from this morning? Hey... you're okay now. I can go find him, make sure he never has kids." He squeezed Jimin's elbow.
"No, hyung, don't," Jimin shook his head, reaching out to place his hand on top of Hoseok's and holding it tightly. "I was just flirting with him, and I shouldn't have. I didn't... I didn't think he would react that way."
"React what way, did he get violent?" Jin asked softly, slowly stroking Jimin's hair.
Jimin didn't reply at first, head still buried in the crook of Jin's neck. After a moment, he pulled back to look up at him, brushing the bangs out of his eyes. There was a bruise that had formed at his temple. "He pushed me and... I hit the doorknob, and he tried kicking me, that's when I locked myself in the bathroom."
Yoongi saw red, already on his feet and halfway towards the door when he heard Jin's stern voice cut through. "Sit down Yoongi, and you too Hoseok, no one is going to do anything to him," Jin said. "I'll deal with it."
"That asshole deserves worse than an eomma lecture," Hoseok said, the forever-smiling young man's face shifted into an almost scary blankness. He reached up, gently brushing Jimin's bangs away to see the bruise better. "This is gonna need ice... I'll get you ice while eomma Jin cuddles away the tears, okay?"
Jimin looked like he wanted to protest but he nodded. "Okay hyung," he murmured, still sniffling a little.
"When you're feeling up to it we'll take you home," Jin said. "Make you some soup and tuck you into bed." He glanced at Hoseok, his eyes narrowed. "You better come back with that ice and not go looking for that kid, do you understand Jung Hoseok?"
"Taking care of Jimin is more important," was Hoseok's reply, not even looking up at Jin. He stood up, stooping to press a kiss to the head-full of orange hair before turning and heading out the door. Namjoon watched him go before glancing at Yoongi out of the corner of his eyes, seeing the older man still fuming.
It was relatively quiet for the next few minutes, no one sure what to say, though the silence was broken by the occasional sniffle from Jimin. He seemed to take note of where they were and sat up a little, rubbing at his eyes. "You guys recording something?" Jimin asked. Jin could tell he was trying to distract attention from what happened to Jimin, turn Namjoon and Yoongi's attention from finding some freshman and disemboweling him.
"Yup, Yoongi wants to submit an entry to the summer music fest," Jin said, smiling a little at Jimin.
"Oh? You three together?" Jimin asked, seeming to perk up.
"Well, I was going to ask you and Jungkook as well," Yoongi said, feeling a little awkward at the change of conversation. "But don't worry about it, we can talk about it later."
There was really nothing else to talk about though, and Namjoon could see that Jimin really didn't want to keep on the current conversation. Chewing on his lower lip, he glanced at the door when Hoseok returned with a small bag of ice wrapped in his sleeve.
"Here," Hoseok sat down on the couch's arm. He gently moved Jimin's bangs aside so he could touch the ice against it, keeping the cloth of his sleeve between the bag and his skin so it didn't sting.
"...Yoongi has the start of a track already," Namjoon said after a pause. "Did you want to hear it?"
"Sure," Jimin nodded, mouthing a thank you to Hoseok as he leaned into the ice. "I'm sure it's great, all of Yoongi hyung's tracks are good."
Flattering Yoongi was easily the best way to distract him from whatever he'd been pissed about moments before. Not that Yoongi wasn't still upset and wanted to murder whoever had touched Jimin, but it did divert his attention. "We haven't got any lyrics yet, but we've already done some good work I think," he said, reaching around Namjoon to start the track.
Hoseok smoothed his free hand through Jimin's hair as the song started to play, the piano notes flowing through the room. "What's this? Sounds nice."
"The start of something for the music festival," Namjoon said. "Taehyung's already agreed to perform it with us too."
"That was quick," Jimin chuckled. "I guess Taehyung hasn't been around long enough to know how to say no to Yoongi yet."
"Why would he say no, he's a voice major, he should have been begging me for this opportunity," Yoongi said. "So you want in or not?"
"Well I guess I kind of owe you for today," Jimin said, his eyes lowering to the floor.
"No, you don't owe me anything for today," Yoongi said immediately. "That's me being your friend. You singing for me is something else, name your price."
Jimin was quiet, but he had a sad smile on as he looked back up at met Yoongi's eyes. "Okay, I'll do it, but we'll talk about payment later. Alone."
Hoseok looked between the two of them for a moment. Then his lips pursed at Yoongi. "Yah. Why aren't you asking me if I want in? Do you think I can't sing?" Namjoon coughed into his hand, hiding a smile as Hoseok started to protest being left out. "Jiminnie, I can sing, right? Yoongi's being unfair."
"Of course you can sing hyung," Jimin chuckled. "Best singer in the world."
"Would you shut up, I didn't think I had to invite you because you're just going to invite yourself," Yoongi rolled his eyes. "I don't care what Jimin says, you're not that good of a singer. Maybe Namjoon can take you under his wing, you'll have to ask him."
"I don't need to be under anyone's wing," Hoseok wrinkled his nose at Yoongi with a huff. "Jiminnie says I can sing and his opinion trumps all of yours." He continued to smooth his fingers through Jimin's hair.
Namjoon chuckled, glancing at Yoongi. "Well, that's almost everyone." Only Jungkook left, though he had no idea how Yoongi was going to wrangle the youngest into performing.
"I don't care if his opinion trumps, it's my song," Yoongi fired back at Hoseok. Jimin sighed a little, though he was smiling as he watched Yoongi and Hoseok begin squabbling. Obviously not much work was going to get done for the next while, so he settled in against Jin and just watched until Jin had had enough.
"Hoseok, honey, take Jimin home, I'll be right behind you," Jin said, cutting off the latest round of quips from Yoongi. "If you're okay with going now?" he posed the question to Jimin who had nearly fallen asleep he was comfortable.
"Yeah, I kind of just want to go to bed," Jimin nodded, moving to get up.
Hoseok nodded, removing the ice bag from Jimin's temple and shaking his numb fingers out before hopping to his feet. "Will you lend me your hand, fair sir?" Hoseok gave a clownish, cheesy bow.
"Don't be weird," Jimin laughed, but he took Hoseok's hand and stood up. He didn't let go of his friend's hand, as they said their goodbye's and left.
Jin cleaned up a bit of the mess that was left on the table and made to leave as well. "Hey, Namjoon, can I talk to you outside for a second?" he asked, heading for the door.
"Yeah," Namjoon said, standing up and glancing at Yoongi. He picked up his bag, slinging it over his shoulder before following Jin outside the studio door. he looked up and down the hallway to see Jimin and Hoseok were already gone. "Are you okay?" he asked Jin quietly.
"Worried about Jimin, but that's not why I wanted to talk to you," Jin said, chewing on the bottom of his lip. "I guess, I felt our conversation earlier got cut a little short with drama, and um... I wanted to ask if you were going to come by for dinner tonight?"
Namjoon blinked, then a smile curled his lips. "...Sure. If you'll have me. I just need to stay here and help Yoongi clean up first, maybe distract him with some lyrics before he stalks down the asshole who hurt Jimin. I can be by in an hour?"
"Sounds good," Jin nodded, standing there a little nervously before leaning in to give Namjoon a kiss. He'd never been this forward in his life, but fuck it, he was happy.
Pleasantly surprised, Namjoon closed his eyes as he returned the kiss. His palms brushed against Jin's waist, holding him loosely before the short kiss ended and he leaned back.
He gave Jin a wide smile. "...See you in a bit."
"Yeah, looking forward to it," Jin nodded, unable to help how he was smiling or the blush that was slowly becoming a permanent feature to his cheeks. He turned and headed down the hall, not daring to look back or he'd just come back to kiss Namjoon silly again.
Namjoon watched him go, the smile lingering long past when Jin had turned the corner and disappeared from sight. Then he led out a long sigh, shaking his head to clear it before heading back into the room. "Today's gone entirely off the rails."
"Implying you thought today was going to go smoothly?" Yoongi snorted, already back at work, hunching over the mixing board as the track played. "Everything okay with Jin? Or is he still mad at me."
"...I think he's over that," Namjoon said once he remembered what Jin had been angry about in the first place. "Just wanted to check with everything else up in the air if he was going to have any company for dinner tonight." He slid down into the seat beside Yoongi. "You should get an early night tonight, considering your schedule tomorrow."
"Probably," Yoongi shrugged. "I really want to get some progress on this though." He glanced at Namjoon beside him. "I've been waiting all day, you have to have some lyrics for me by now."
"I have some in mind," Namjoon sighed, finding his notebook and sliding closer to show Yoongi what he had written. They probably weren't going to be moving for a while.
