[𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩 𝟏] the beginning.
being sent to detention again, evelyn—a renowned professional valorant gamer—carelessly glanced outside the window while popping her bubblegum. hardly a day went by peacefully without her attempting to skip classes, going to school late, or being involved in a fight—that was what made her completely intolerable.
however, there was someone, who tirelessly found ways to deal with her—he was elijah, the president of oasis high school's student council. he gently knocked on the detention room's door, knowing so well that evelyn was inside. then, he came in, and unsurprisingly, his expectation was not turned down—evelyn was there, subconsciously turning her head to see who had walked in. their eyes met—not romantically, but heatedly. in a furious tone, elijah called the unconcerned girl out:
– are you out of your mind? one more time and you are expelled. i'm not playing about that.
evelyn burst out laughing, responded sarcastically:
– pardon me. ex-what? excelled? i excel now, no need to worry.
the careless response added fuel to the massively burning fire:
– i told you i'm not kidding. fix your attitude and work on your grades. last term, you ranked 357/358. if you do worry about your future, stop neglecting your marks, or else you will fail high school.
– oh, is that so? look, i'm a professional valorant gamer, i make millions a day, i have loyal fans—i basically have everything now. why do i need to study then?
elijah let out a heavy sigh, then gave evelyn a whole lecture:
– if you yourself do not care about your future, then who will? listen evelyn, you need to be responsible—not only for your family, but for you. money is not everything, maybe now, you are earning a lot from your gaming career, but who knows if it dies out in the future? studying can help you going places more sustainably after all.
something elijah said seemed to trigger evelyn's resentment. she screamed at him:
– my future is not for you to judge. stop being all hypocritical and dramatic. you are not my dad.
after that, she stormed off, fuming with anger. she hated elijah with all her heart, as he always acted like he was superior to her and even dared to advice her. "who do he think he is? such a jerk." evelyn murmured. after getting home, she immediately turned on the pc to play valorant with her friends.
– hi evelyn, what caused you to go home so late today?
– just a few troubles with elijah...
– the president of student council? he's kinda cute. i think he seems pretty interested in you, evelyn.
– there is no way he is interested in me...he is so annoying and always preaches about future, which i do not ask for, of course. he is also a big fat nerd and a professional hypocrite. that's why i deeply despise him.
the next morning, at recess, as evelyn went out of her class to the cafeteria, she noticed a bunch of girls surrounded elijah. "i know damn well this two-faced jerk just pretends to be innocent around me. close enough, he is actually a heartbreaker." she was thinking to herself when he suddenly approach her:
– hey evelyn, where are you going?
– not your business. besides, it seems like you're having a good time.
as evelyn made her way to the cafeteria, elijah followed closely with a look of guilt on his face. she did not seem to care; however, it got to a point where she found it unbearable.
– could you please stop following me? you are harassing me and i find it very annoying.
– wait...it's not like what you think...
– so? i don't give a crap anyway. i'm not even your friend, let alone a girlfriend for you to explain.
her cruel words got to him, and he felt so embarrassed. it finally dawned on him that she despise his presence, and all along, he was just acting like a pathetic loser who craved her attention badly. it hurted like a true heartbreak, even though he barely had feelings for her. after that, he stopped caring too much about her. and as for evelyn, she was so relief because from now on, she will not be bothered anymore. that is good news to her.
a few months passed by, elijah eventually had a girlfriend named katherine. she was beautiful, smart, and kind-hearted. every girl envies her for having an immaculate life—an academic weapon herself, an equally perfect student council president boyfriend, and a crazy rich family that took her to school in a helicopter. of course, evelyn did not care anyway, she was too busy practicing for the valorant international tournament, and she would not miss a chance to show off her skills.
