[NAME] could almost feel herself drying up under the heat of the sun when she was walking outside. She was thankful to be indoors, but it wasn't enough. She saw black spots in her vision and felt dizzy as Shinobu, who was curious about the bodies of sirens, inspected her and gave her a check-up.
"Hmm... Your skin seems to have a sort of pallor..." she murmured to herself, scribbling it down on a piece of paper, "Alright! Now that I've seen this form, I'd like to ask if I could see you in your siren form? The one with your tail, I mean. Would you-?"
"Yes!" [NAME] gasped, feeling like she was about to pass out, "Water... Now..."
Shinobu blinked, watched her for a moment, and then helped her stand and led her outside to the courtyard. A girl with a side-pigtail sat there, playing with a coin with a small smile on her face. Shinobu sat [NAME] next to her and quickly went inside. [NAME] glanced at the girl with droopy eyes, watching her fiddle with the coin. She seemed to be in her own little world.
[NAME] looked up when she heard a small commotion. The door slammed open again, and three boys came out carrying a large tub. One boy had golden eyes and yellow hair while another boy had a very muscular body and a boar's head on his. The third boy... she recognized. He was that boy with the black and burgundy hair who stopped her and Muzan when they were at the market together.
"Where did you want this, Kocho-sama?" He called out, not seeming to notice her yet.
"Just there is fine," Shinobu replied, coming out with a bucket of water.
Another girl with black hair done up in pigtails and big blue eyes trailed behind her, carrying two more buckets of water. They poured the buckets into the tub, which only filled it about halfway, but [NAME] didn't care. She quickly stood and rushed over to the tub, almost tripping into it. She splashed the water onto her neck, bringing her relief. As she did, her legs tingled, and her tail appeared. It dangled out of the tub and nearly touched the ground.
"Incredible..." she heard Shinobu gasp softly.
When she was fully hydrated once more, [NAME] opened her eyes to look at them all. Shinobu seemed fascinated while the girl who brought water with her seemed both surprised and in awe. The other girl was looking over, seeming curious. The three boys all stared in shock, though the boy with the black and burgundy hair stared at [NAME]'s face with recognition.
"Aoi, please go get more water! And boys, thank you for your help," Shinobu said, quickly walking over to me.
The girl, 'Aoi', rushed off to get more water while the boys seemed hesitant to leave. Shinobu didn't really pay them any mind, though, and gently ran her fingers along [NAME]'s tail.
"Goodness... It's so beautiful..." she murmured.
[NAME] pursed her lips slightly, feeling a bit nervous. Siren scales. The thing that captivated humans so much to make them kill off an entire species. It made her worry. Was Shinobu captivated by them? Did she want to, perhaps... take them? Shinobu, sensing [NAME]'s tenseness, quickly backed off.
"My apologies. I was just so entranced, is all. I've never seen anything quite like this, so I'm very excited," she explained.
[NAME] nodded, watching Shinobu's eyes closely. They were slightly widened in a way that almost seemed... crazed. No... No, [NAME] was just being dramatic. That's what she told herself anyway. But, even then, she could swear she could hear Shinobu's heartbeat beating rapidly in her chest.
