Part 16 Change
Seeing Ratna's number flashing on his phone, Arnav gritted his teeth. Without any second thought, he attended the call.
Before Ratna said anything,
"Why did you call me now, to tell me that you have done a very good job?" He sneered.
Ratna was taken back. She couldn't understand anything as she didn't know Arnav recorded their conversation and heard it too. Who could even think Arnav can do it?
"Why are you pouncing on me? What do I do?" she asked with confusion.
"Didn't you tell Khushi to marry someone leaving me behind?" he yelled.
Ratna was shocked to the core. How did Arnav get to know about it? Did Khushi tell him? But why? Is she having a plan to do something with Arnav using their conversation? No way... Khushi would not have done that without telling her about it. She would not have said Arnav anything about their conversation because she knew it will create a difference between her and Arnav. So, Khushi would not have done that. Ratna concluded. She decided to ask her son about it.
"Why are you silent now? Will you talk only with your daughter-in-law to make her upset?"
Is not it news? Khushi was upset and Arnav was worrying about it.
"Wait... how do you know what we talked about?" Ratna questioned.
Now, Arnav got struck. In frustration, he dint think Ratna will raise this question.
"Why are you (she stressed) silent now?" She asked.
Arnav knew he could not lie to Ratna because she will ask Khushi about it for sure. What will Khushi think if she gets to know that he recorded their conversation?
"My phone was in the auto recording. Your conversation got recorded..." he tried to handle his mother with a lie.
Ratna was surprised. Was the phone on auto-recording...? Or, Arnav change it into auto-recording?
"Oh... so you heard our conversation..."
"Haan, I heard... and you don't have to recite to your daughter-in-law that I heard your conversation..."
Ratna rolled her eyes. This is what Arnav. Neither he won't accept he needs her nor will let her go. Ratna made up herself.
"Yes, I said... you are the one who wants me to ask her to leave Mumbai..." she asked.
"I want you to ask her to leave Mumbai... but I didn't ask you to advise her to marry someone" he sneered.
"What do you think? Her parents will surely get her married to someone if she leaves Mumbai..."
"It doesn't mean you should insist on her right away"
"Ok, as you heard our conversation, come straight to the point. I won't ask her anything right away... I mean for the next three months..." she said as if she was doing a favor for him.
Cutting her,
"You no need to ask her to marry someone..."
"Why? Why should not I ask her? It was me who asked her to marry you. So, I have all the right to ask her anything" She said with attitude.
"Mom, just let her do what she wants. Stop giving her stupid ideas..."
Ratna very well understood that he asks her to stay away from their matter... indirectly.
"Ok, I won't give her an idea for the next three months..."
Arnav rolled his eyes.
"You don't like her... you don't want her to be with you... Then why are you bothering about her decision of marrying someone? You should be happy because she will never interfere with your life if she marries someone..."
Arnav gulped down hard and couldn't answer his mother.
"Mom... stop this nonsense... she knows better than you and she understands better than anyone. So, you are not going to ask her to marry someone. That's final" Arnav disconnected the call, frustrated.
Ratna wanted to hop as she was happy. It seems his son got attracted to his wife... which means what she thought was right. Only Khushi's side of action could bring him out of the shell to the fullest. Khushi will be happy if she gets to know about Arnav's stand and she will continue pleasing him. It should not happen. Let her behave with him a little oddly. Then only he will think she will go away from him. That thought of him will make him realize what Khushi meant to him. Ratna thought.
Though Arnav was not nervous he thought Khushi would not take Ratna's words seriously because he knew Khushi. The much he observed her, she would not think of marrying anyone leaving him. He was damn sure about it.
The next morning
Arnav didn't find Khushi in the kitchen. Didn't she say her contribution will also be there in this house? He started cooking as he had no time to be waiting for her. Of course, he cooked for her too. But Khushi left the house as usual before half an hour to Arnav. Neither she had breakfast nor did she take a lunch box that confused Arnav. Why didn't she eat breakfast when she was not late? He shrugged the thought off and got ready for the office.
Khushi came to the office bringing bananas. She ate two in the morning as breakfast and decided to eat lunch in the canteen. She wanted to be within her limits. She doesn't want to get comfortable with Arnav sharing things. What if he doesn't give her a chance? So, she doesn't want to grow expectations in her heart. But... would she be distancing her heart from her husband? Never... she knows that.
For Khushi, the day went smoothly. But for Arnav, that evening brought disturbance. He was confused, seeing provisions arriving at his house from the nearby grocery shop.
"I didn't order anything... it must be for someone..." Arnav said.
That's when he heard,
"I bought it..." from Khushi.
"Check the list, ma'am," The shop worker who brought the provisions said.
Khushi checked the list and the things. She nodded ok and gave twenty rupees to the worker. He left the place smiling.
Khushi started arranging them in the kitchen. Arnav saw her bringing vegetables when she come back home. Why does she do this? He didn't know whether she has money.
"Why did you buy these?" He asked couldn't hold himself.
"Didn't I say my contribution also will be in this house? That's why" she said not looking at him.
"What's necessary?"
Khushi looked at him barely.
"I mean there is sufficient provision in the kitchen"
"I don't want to be a burden on your shoulder... that's why I want to share the expenses..."
Arnav gulped down. He understood that was the outcome of his mother's advice.
"oh... Do you have money?"
She simply nodded yes with a smile unusually. She didn't say that she got a mortgage loan giving her bangle as collateral to the lender.
Arnav didn't feel good vibes. Why suddenly she thinks that her contribution is necessary? Did she truly affect by Ratna's words? Is she getting ready to get separated from him after three months? The three months course between Ratna and Khushi made him restless.
After a week
Arnav sensed a constant difference in Khushi. She did her work without disturbing him. She didn't come out of the room when he was in the living room agitated Arnav. There was one thing that satisfied Arnav. Khushi stopped wearing a saree to the office after the day Arnav shouted at her. She preferred Suits that suited her well. That made Arnav happy because she obeyed his words.
On the other hand, Akash was also getting attracted to Khushi just like NK. Both liked her very much. They had fallen for her from tip to toe. they gathered in Aman's cabin for lunch as usual,
"Why are you late?" Aman asked.
"I was with Khushi discussing our tomorrow's photoshoot," Akash said.
"oh..."
"I think I'm in love with Khushi," Akash said.
Aman looked at him perplexed.
"Whaaat? Then what about me? I love her, man" NK said.
Aman looked at them wondering.
"Don't you know she is as same as my Angel?" NK advocated.
"It doesn't mean she is your Angel..." Akash said.
"This is not done, Akash..."
"Why? Why should not I? You love her... But she doesn't... She doesn't even know you love her. Then why not I?"
NK thought for a while,
"Ok... let's have a gentleman's agreement"
"Whaaat?" Akash asked.
"We have to have an agreement between us regarding this issue"
"What agreement?"
"We are friends... We should not fight for anyone... Not even for our future wife..."
Akash nodded yes thoughtfully.
"We both like Khushi. She will select one among them. One of us will get rejected for sure. We know that. We have to accept her choice. If she likes you, I will remain her friend. If she likes me, you should accept it and I don't have a problem if you continue your friendship with her because you and Khushi are good people..."
Akash smiled.
"You try in your way, I will try my best. We should not disturb or interfere with one another... What say?"
"Fantastic..." Aman smiled.
"Yup... I agree with you... Let Khushi choose what she wants"
"That's great"
They shook hands. They were fully set to get someone's wife as their wife... unaware of the truth.
To be continued...
