to give him/her advice on renting a suitable place to live

monthly rent, nearby places, traffic convenience, roommate....)

- Use structure for asking and giving advice
CARD 2 – UNIT 7
Discuss about choosing a house (a low-rise building) or an apartment (a high-rise
building)
- Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each type of building
- Decide which type of house is more suitable for different people (old couple,
young couple, youngsters....)
advantage of an apartment
Pros:
Location. Highrises are often located in premium neighborhoods that affording a single family or walk up unit would be extremely expensive. Living in a high rise often gives you walking access to great restaurants, public transportation and possibly your place of employment.Door Guard. Most highrises will have a professional 24hr door person, which is good security as well as ensuring you get packages that are delivered to you.Amenities. Highrises often have gyms, pools and public meeting rooms. they may also have some retail, such as a restaurant or dry cleaner at their ground floor. An elevator can make the unit more accessible for the disabled or elderly.Views. You can get a great view living in a highrise.
Cons:
Neighbors. In a highrise you commonly have neighbors above, below and to both sides of you. Obviously this can be a positive, but it has the more potential for trouble than when you neighbors are close, but a short distance away, as in a single family or walk up building. Your neighbors could be loud and partying all the time, or perhaps worse, they could complain every time you have 2 friends over for a couple drinks and aren't dead silent. In a lower rise, you typically have more control over the amount of interaction with your neighbors.Pets. Highrises often have restrictions on pets. Having a dog in a highrise has the added complexity of having to make a fairly lengthy trip each time the animal needs to do its business.Outdoor space. Lowrise buildings will often have more functional outdoor space, whether it is a patio, yard or deck. High rise units sometimes have balconies, but these are often not very functional, because of the limited size, high winds and limited views and access. high rises are also typically located in "concrete jungle" areas with fewer public green spaces in the vicinity, so this can be a concern.Building restrictions. High rises often have restrictions on which utility suppliers (including television and internet) you can use within their building. This can be frustrating if you work for a telecom or have some relationship with a different vendor and would prefer your own service

Discuss the following questions:
- What your life would be without social media?
- What are the differences between online and real-life relationships?
- In your opinion, social media makes your relationship better of makes it worse?9.2 Keeping You Company
Online Friends: Online friends are people you don't really really know but you met them once at a conference, on a social networking site, on Twitter, or maybe you added them to your Facebook because they're friends with someone you know. Plus they're hot, and you do enjoy collecting Facebook friends based on their hotness. An online friend is someone you know is available every time you see that little green dot next to their name, so you write them and say hello. But sometimes it's possible to have an online best friend who you've never met before in real life, but who keeps you company when you're writing a long paper or bored at work. You talk to each other at least every other day. You even have inside jokes and think about going out to visit them wherever they live, you know, to take things to the next step.
Real Life Friends: Real life friends keep you company when they can, when they're not busy with something else or watching a favorite television show. An online friend is available whenever they have that promiscuous little green dot beside their name, but your real life friends have things to do and you don't always know what they're doing or when they're busy. You can make plans with your real life friends for tea or brunch, and you can compliment them on their new haircut. Even if you talk to your real life friend online, you KNOW they're a real friend when they are 'invisible' and they will still talk to you.
Gossip And Life Problems
Online Friends: Online friends know all about your relationship drama and boy/girl crushes, because you've been asking them for advice for months. Hey there, Google Talk friend, Should I try to kiss him tonight? OMG what do you think? You feel comfortable talking to your online friends about all of your life issues because as far as they know your name is really "Katie Smith," even though it's not, and you could be making up all of your social problems. Plus, you've already bugged your real life friends about this stuff to death. Now you have a whole new outlet!
Real Life Friends: Your real life friends know you the best and are not afraid to tell you about yourself. Sure, your online friends can offer an opinion, even a decisive one, but there is nobody like a real life friend to tell you when you need to get it together. A real life friend says things like, Don't you already have a girlfriend? Should you really be talking to this other girl, no matter how hot she is? A real life friend will make you feel good even when you're feeling depressed about the job market or going through a difficult period in your life. An online friend can console you, but just doesn't have the same context.
9.3 We have complied some of the positive and negative opinions people express for social networks:
Positive Effects:
-Friends and Relations:
Social networks started as a place to connect with your friends in an easy an convenient way. Truly speaking, many of you might have found your old pals from school or college who were out of touch due to one reason or other, well I would say I have and I thank social networks for this. Social networks has provided us the opportunity to connect with people and build better relationships with friends with whom we are unable to meet personally, and let them know about our life and take input about their lives and events happening with them.
-Reducing Communication Barriers:
With social networks we are able to communicate our thoughts and perceptions over different topics with a large number of audiences, and raise our voice. The sharing feature available on the social networks makes your opinion about any topic reach huge number of people (even to those who are not on your friends list). We have the option to make groups with people who are like minded and share the related news with them and ask for their opinion or input about the topic. Simply there are a number of options available for us to communicate with others on these social networks.
-Opportunities for Businesses:
Social networks have become a crucial part of many of us. We don't even notice this but as soon as we open our desktops or laptops to access the web, we sub-consciously open our favorite social network just to see about the updates received. Businesses have noticed the value of social networks in our life, and they are using different techniques to promote their products. There are a number of customized applications being made on the social platforms, whose main purpose is to promote the product or brand. As social marketing is cost effective and brands have a huge audience, they are shifting more towards social marketing.
Negative Effects:
-Leads to Addiction:
Many studies have shown that the extensive use of social media can actually cause addiction to the users. Throughout their day, they feel to post something on their pages or check others posts as it has become an important part of our life.
-Lead to Isolation:
Extreme usage of social media has reduced the level of human interaction. Because of social networks the interaction with other people has become effortless and people have isolated their lives behind their online identities. Face to face communication and meetings has been reduced and many of us have lost the flavor and charm to be together under one roof.
-Affecting Productivity:
Mostly businesses use social media to find and communicate with clients. But it is a great distraction to employees, who may show more interest in what their friends are posting than in their work tasks. Wired.com posted two studies which demonstrated damage to productivity caused by social networking. Nucleus Research reported that Facebook shaves 1.5% off office productivity while Morse claimed that British companies lost 2.2 billion a year to the social phenomenon. New technology products have become available that allow social networks to be blocked, but their effectiveness remains spotty.
