The Blue Veil

CHAPTER 52

At the end of the day, when Daph and Viv lay in bed lazily after a spontaneous and warm outing in the midst of somewhat harsh weather, Viv was sleeping soundly, but Daph was still very awake.
She knew someone was stalking them. She silently observed him through her slightly narrowed gaze, catching him taking pictures of them at the restaurant, along the path, and in front of the hotel when they kissed. She could tell by the man's pattern — how he lingered a second too long, how the reflection of his lens caught light twice in the same minute. She was both amused and curious about who would spend their precious time and money to know about their "boring" life.
Maybe "they"?

Daph kissed Viv's forehead gently, then pulled the blanket over both of their shoulders. Even whoever "they" were, it wasn't worth worrying about. "They" could not threaten her domestic life.

And Viv could feel it too — the stalker.

The next morning, she told Daph about her concerns, but it seemed they weren't worried about the same person.

"Are you sure that's not her?" Daph's eyes gently looked at Viv. She had planned to take Viv to her favorite shop, but she had to postpone it because of some events Viv didn't intend to tell her about until today.

"I think they are former prisoners... that I triggered them, I..." Viv mumbled, her eyes wavering slightly while recalling the memory from a few months ago.

Daph squinted at Viv, her facial expression no longer gentle but serious. She didn't think Viv would hide something from her, and that made her a little disappointed. Daph folded her arms and sat opposite Viv, who was pensive in bed, her gaze fixed seriously on Viv.

"You can tell me now," she said.

Honestly, Viv thought it was just some little thing she had done to accelerate her plan in prison, not worth mentioning. Viv had almost forgotten about it, but the stalker and Daph's serious gaze forced her to remember.

And as she started recounting, the air in the room seemed to shift — time folding backward, dragging her mind into the dull grey walls of the prison.

At the time, she used all the information received from Daph's chip to fix every possible issue in Pen's favor. But some small problems temporarily hindered the plan that had been going well.

A tough middle-aged lesbian woman, known as the "Top Dog" in prison, was trying to entice Pen into transporting drugs. Deep down, she craved to make Pen her pet — both in business and sexually. Viv knew that if Pen sank into this trap, her chance of getting out would vanish.

The "Top Dog" and her ally — the nurse who worked in the prison medical ward — had a fairly close relationship, as the nurse helped "Top Dog" smuggle drugs into the prison so she could distribute them to other junkies. Viv once saw Lux exchange something briefly with her, but Lux hardly looked like a junkie. Viv guessed she sold it to others when she was bored and enjoyed watching people lose their senses and beg her for drugs.

Viv needed to find weaknesses in the Top Dog or the nurse. God heard her — that night, Viv intentionally caught both of them pleasuring themselves in the medical office. The sound of moaning spread throughout the room; she bet they dared to do such a dirty thing because the medical room was quite far from the prisoner resting area. They would never know their little secret would ruin them slowly.

Viv's hand was consciously injured the next day. When she was able to stay alone with the nurse — whose name tag read "Diana" — Viv noticed that she looked like a nurse full of standards and ethics. But who would have thought that inside, she specialized in transporting drugs into prison?

Diana coldly checked Viv's hand. Viv's eyes were fixed on her face, observing every movement to spot any trace of panic beneath her mask.

"Your hand is fine now," Diana said dryly, turning away and walking toward the sink.

"Hmm... Umnn... Ahh... I'm cumming..." Viv suddenly moaned, with a hint of teasing in her tone.

Diana immediately turned to look at her in panic, her eyes unable to hide the indescribable shame.

Viv had no intention of stopping. A small smirk appeared on her lips as she teased innocently, "Seems like someone at night would be a naughty nurse."

Having said that, Viv stood up and walked out of the medical room. When she reached the door, she turned back to look at Diana and said softly, "Don't worry, I won't tell."

Half of the plan was completed.

For sure, the "Top Dog" — called Amelia — sensed something. She started targeting Viv more than usual, which distracted her from Pen. Amelia's harassment kept increasing; she started to pick fights with Viv and constantly threatened that if Viv dared to say anything about their secret, she would be punished.

It had been days since Viv had eaten or rested properly, but that was okay — it was all part of the plan, and it would soon come to an end.

On one hand, Viv constantly teased Diana with innuendos; on the other, she took advantage of Amelia's harassment and her clique, along with the fake crime Viv used to break into prison — a sarcastic drug addict.

She pretended to reach the limit of being bothered by the Top Dog's gang and, at the same time, started acting out her cravings for drugs and went to Amelia and her gang to ask for them.

This was the time when Pen was extremely panicked and confused as "Alex" became a different person — behaving strangely and often ignoring her, because "Alex" spent most of the day looking for Amelia.

"If you need this shit, just find me... I have enough to satisfy you."

Lux leaned on the wall, her eyes fixed on "Alex," who was standing alone in a hidden corner, observing Amelia. Viv said nothing, her eyes constantly locked on her target. Only she knew that she needed the drug not because of addiction but for something else.

"You can't... only her," Viv answered curtly, then left to go toward Amelia, leaving Lux standing there in contemplation, her eyes never leaving Viv. "Alex" seemed no different from a normal addict on the outside, but Lux knew something was wrong — something too sudden, too different, a subtle change. She couldn't prove it.

Maybe this time Viv was too hasty and impatient.

Amelia requested Viv to meet her in the bathroom at midnight. In return, Viv was given a syringe and a pill hidden in a plastic bag. Viv had previously endured ridicule and humiliation from Amelia and her gang for daring to threaten her business, but in the end, she shamelessly asked for the drug and was then forced to become her henchwoman in transporting it — "Alex" officially replaced Pen.

Viv came to the bathroom, hiding behind the curtain of the last stall. The syringe filled with liquid drugs was hidden in her sleeve, just waiting for Amelia to appear.

A sound — sticky noises and loud banging on the door — echoed throughout the bathroom. Amelia and one of her subordinates were entangled with each other. It turned out she did that to all of her subordinates, not just the nurse — they were all just toys to her.

Viv deliberately made noises to attract their attention. Both of them suddenly stopped. Amelia walked toward the last stall, pulling open the old shower curtain. Viv was pretending to be half-sitting, half-lying on the floor, her back against the wall — looking like she was high.

The scene surprised Amelia. Then a smirk appeared on her face. She signaled for the subordinate girl to leave immediately. When the girl left angrily, only Viv and Amelia were left in the bathroom. Amelia squatted down, her massive body blocking all the dim light that shone on Viv. Her eyes looked at Viv with both amusement and contempt.

"I thought you were just a fake boring nerd who pretended to understand all the books in the library." The more she spoke, the closer she got to Viv until the air around Viv was filled only with her breath.

"Vause... you're just a fool who can't read... Do you think I don't know you intentionally kept me from reaching Prescott?" Suddenly, her hand slowly moved up and down Viv's thigh.

"You bitch will replace her..."

Disgusting. Viv suddenly took the syringe and stuck it straight into Amelia's neck, pressing her hard onto the floor. Too surprised by the attack, Amelia was quickly subdued. She screamed loudly as Viv used all her strength to pump the liquid into her body.

"Relax... that's your pill."

Viv clenched her hands and sat on Amelia, not giving her a chance to escape. Her eyes no longer showed addiction but returned to their sharp state — her sarcastic words mixed with an innocent tone.

"Enjoy your last pussy."

Nurse Diana was also later arrested for drug possession, evidence that someone had deliberately left behind and reported to the prison guards. Amelia, after being discovered in the bathroom (thanks to Viv deliberately inciting her juniors to look for her), was treated and transferred to another prison.

Alex then returned to her "normal" state after being sent to SHU, accused of assault by the girl who had been with Amelia in the bathroom. Pen was even more confused about what was happening.

Actually, Viv didn't need to go this far with Top Dog — she did it for other reasons. Amelia and her gang specialized in luring and bullying new prisoners, forcing them to sell drugs or endure abuse. Viv could have made herself invisible to avoid being targeted, but other girls couldn't. One had to be really clever — or as cunning as Lux — to fit in. But most people like Pen and other normal girls who had just made mistakes weren't like that. So Viv had to teach Amelia a lesson at all costs.

"And then?" Daph, after hearing everything, still showed no surprise on her face, but her eyes seemed sharper.

"Then there was the riot... you know that too," Viv muttered, her voice getting smaller and smaller. Daph remained silent after that. The atmosphere in the hotel was awkward and tense. Finally, Viv had to break the silence and continue:

"As far as I know, Amelia had only a few months left before release, but after the drug possession incident, it became uncertain... I heard she had someone outside — she must have been angry about that."

It was extremely rare for Viv to show such confusion and regret that she couldn't hide. Both her voice and her fingers clearly indicated that she was extremely flustered at the moment.

"It was all my fault... I was too impulsive at that time..."

"Come on, it's okay." Daph immediately stood up and went to sit next to Viv to comfort her. She couldn't blame Viv at this point — it was all because she tried her best to end things quickly. "You better not hide anything from me next time," Daph gently reminded. Viv was calmer now. Even though she didn't say anything, her eyes looked at Daph like a promise.
