The Blue Veil

CHAPTER 7

valakdeptrai

Today, someone calling himself "Pen's fiancé" wanted to meet Viv.

It's been more than three months since she went to jail to help her customer, and for that same amount of time, she hasn't contacted with her partner. No phone, no camera, no surveillance—just her and whatever misunderstanding this man is bringing to the table.

"You're Alex?"

A tall, thin man stood there, looking like a Minion in an absurdly shiny yellow shirt. Viv wasn't sure if that was really Pen's type, but he kept calling himself "Pen's fiancé" and was giving her a nasty look.

"You should know that Pen and I are willing to marry when she gets out of here," he said firmly. "Don't touch her. Leave her alone."

"I see. She's all yours. We're done," Vivienne said in a flat, tedious tone, cutting through his mood. She didn't even know his name.

"Oh... but wait!" He stepped in to block her from leaving. "I think we need to clear something, Miss Vause," he added, clearly embarrassed.

"What do you want?" Vivienne had almost no patience left.

"I was told you were thrown into SHU because of... you know... something called 'homosexual behavior'—" he hesitated, "—with Pen."

Vivienne had already guessed where this was going, but stayed silent.

"I know this because of Pen," he went on. "You had some time in... the secretary?—" he stumbled over his words, "—and I think Pen might be having some kind of... affair with you."

Vivienne paused for a moment, then chuckled.

"What the hell?"

She looked straight into his eyes with pity.

"I have no relation with your future bride—or any of your fucking delusions."

"But she refused my confession," he said, trembling, afraid tears might spill. "She scolded me... and admitted she had sex with you."

Vivienne's expression turned to contempt.

"If she actually had sex with me, it's because she came to me willingly."

Then she leaned in slightly and whispered:

"I'm not your problem."

Vivienne moved closer to him, her voice soft:

"This girl dragged me into a warehouse and fucked me."

She smiled—a perfect lie.

"She's a fuck-up. You and I are in the same boat," Vivienne said, convincing him just enough before adding:
"I'm the one who needs to be reassured—and to stay out of your pre-marriage drama."

Vivienne stood up and walked away, leaving the man behind, still unable to process what had just happened.
