Code Blue
{10}
Maya's POV
Everyone had gathered in the dining room to eat dinner, something that we had planned to do since early morning. Today had been one of the most interesting days of my life, my parents and I had found out that Lucio had a demon inhabiting his mind for a while.
Although, it had escaped now.
One of her abilities, due to the light gene, enabled my mother to banish an extremely powerful, evil demon, Satanevos, to a place she called 'The oblivion'. She was absolutely sure that he could not come back, so he was definitely ruled out. Her light gene enabled her to spot demons roaming around, however big, small, or powerful they were.
I couldn't help but feel bad for Lucio, all of this must've come as quite a shock. My parents and I had explained what we could to him, leaving out the light gene and it's abilities. It was something we had sworn to keep a pack leaders secret.
However, it seemed like Lucio knew we were hiding something.
If Lucio and I end up as close as my parents, I wouldn't be able to keep it from him.
"I want seconds." Kyle announced, chewing on his last mouthful. He had opted to sit next to Luca, who he had formed a strong bond with in just a day.
"Me too!" Luca exclaimed, holding his plate in the air. "Feed meee!"
Ivy rolled her eyes at them, holding back a smile, as she pushed three large pots of food towards them. Their eyes brightened at the sight of more food, and piled their plates up high with various dishes.
She pulled the pots away from them with a glare. "Okay, that's enough! Leave some for us, you hungry hippos!" She retorted, shaking her fist at them.
Enzo wore a thoughtful expression as he regarded Ivy closely. It seemed that she noticed too, but hadn't bothered to say anything.
The more I had observed Luca, the guiltier I felt about accusing him of controlling Lucio. Lucio himself was adamant that I was wrong, and laughed at my reasoning. As much as I hated being wrong, I had to take my L and accept it.
Luca wasn't a suspect anymore.
But his father was on my radar now.
Kyle spoke up, as though he could read my mind. "Luca, you really resemble your dad. Lucio, though, not so much."
I didn't miss the way Luca's bright expression faltered a little, at the mention of his father. "I think it's the eyes, I inherited his red eyes." Luca said sheepishly. "Lucio inherited our mother's golden eyes, which honestly looks way cooler."
Ivy tilted her head at that. "Red is cool too."
He cringed a little, looking a little dejected before smiling. "I guess. Although, it does make me look mean, right? People like to assume I'm like my father; cold, brutal and menacing."
Lucio chuckled at this, showing emotion for the first time. "You're like the complete opposite of father."
Ivy noticed how the conversation was effecting Luca. "I'm sure people get over their prejudice when they meet you." She said with reassurance. "You're a really friendly guy, you know."
Luca sat up a little straighter after hearing that, grinning at her. "Damn, thanks Ivy."
Enzo couldn't help raise an eyebrow at her, before saying something. "Guys, doesn't Ivy remind you of Carlos?" He blurted out with a laugh. The question was directed to the BloodRose members, as they all frowned in thought.
"I thought the exact same, actually." Lucio admitted, his golden eyes glimmering with interest. His warriors nodded and exclaimed in agreement, watching Ivy in amazement and wonder. Luca hadn't bothered to stop eating, his red eyes glued onto his meal.
Ivy paused her eating session and asked, "Okay, who's this Carlos guy?"
"Our Beta." Lucio replied simply. "Maybe you're so similar because of your roles."
"And my best friend." Luca added happily, raising his fork. To my surprise, Kyle shot him a disgusted look, to which he grinned at in response. "I guess you are too."
She rolled her eyes before her attention settled on Enzo. "So that's why you were wearing that thoughtful expression all this time."
He shrugged and leaned back, causing his dark, shiny curls to fall over his forehead. "My bad. It was bugging me."
Suddenly, my mind turned foggy before showing me red images. I stood up immediately, my stomach churning with uneasiness and worry, getting everyone's attention. The red images didn't stop, they just kept on flashing before me, curtesy of one of my abilities.
Being able to sense threats within my pack, a pretty useful one.
This one made me feel sick.
I've sensed this before, and I had prayed to never sense it again.
Why was this happening again?
More importantly, how?
Ivy and Kyle stood up too, understanding that something was wrong. "Alpha?" Kyle called out seriously, pushing his food away. "Alpha?"
"We've got to leave, something's happening." I began to say, my voice sounding distant. "Grab your weapons."
I hadn't heard or seen Lucio move, but suddenly he was beside me. "Maya, are you okay?"
At that moment, the dining room doors opened with a bang. Two of my highly ranked warriors rushed in, bowed their heads and said, "Alpha, we have a code blue - yet again."
"Got it." I told them, snapping out of it. "I want Lucio, Kyle, Enzo and Ivy with me. Everyone stay here."
Two warriors opened their backpack cases and handed Lucio his two swords. One tall BloodRose Clan warrior spoke up, standing from his seat. "What does a code blue mean? Are you sure you don't need assistance?"
I walked out the room as I said, "Don't insult me, boy. My pack and I can deal with this."
"Then why are we here?" Enzo asked from beside me, referring to himself and Lucio.
I held back the urge to glare at him and said, "You both need to see this, as the leaders of my most important ally pack. A code blue refers to a public attack, similar to what had been a problem a couple weeks ago. A problem we had believed to have been overcome by our alliance, or so we thought."
I stopped by my rack of weapons, and picked my usual ones; my precious machete and sword. I fastened the belt with the sword, as Ivy grabbed her eight daggers. Kyle always carried his weapon, not that he could be separated from it.
Lucio frowned at this. "An attack? By who, have you been infiltrated?"
"No, impossible." I responded, yanking open the heavy, front doors. "We'll be sprinting there instead, the short cut by foot is quicker than the car route. Any objections?"
Silence.
"Then I suggest you try to keep up." I told them, before taking off in a sprint.
As I suspected the only person out the group who was able to keep up with me was Lucio. Kyle, Ivy and Enzo were closely behind, not losing sight of us.
We definitely had not been infiltrated somehow, or I would've sensed it. We either have a traitor, or it was the work of that demon that escaped. Although, I had a strong feeling it was the latter. The wind was beating my face because of the speed I was travelling, my long, dark hair was blown back.
The scenic view in front of me was breathtaking.
The plains of green grass and blue flowers was really pretty to admire. The tall trees to the side made the picture more interesting, which hid animals of different species. The sky was painted by the different colours of a sunset; orange, yellow and pink.
I had been enjoying myself before the smell of blood had reached my senses, making me lowly growl in anger.
"Alpha, we have narrowed down three suspects." A warrior mind-linked me. "We're pretty positive it was them."
Three suspects?
What?
"Apprehend them, and arrest them under my command." I ordered. "I'll be at the scene very soon, so don't go yet. I want to see them for myself."
"As you wish, Alpha."
The connection was cut, and I began to sprint even faster, making Enzo exclaim in surprise. "You can go even faster?" He yelled in shock, watching the distance between us increase.
I could go much faster, because of the light gene.
To my surprise, Lucio was able to easily fall into step with me. I was extremely impressed. I was pretty sure that no Alpha could reach my speed, I was surpassing normal Alpha limits. He wore a surprised expression too, looking like he was wondering why I was so fast.
No, why are you so fast? If I had time, I would've asked.
Before we knew it, we had arrived at the scene. The street was blocked off as a crime scene, as many worried onlookers watched from the side-lines. Sensing their Alpha, their attention was drawn to me and my company.
Relief had appeared on all their faces, glad to see their leaders appearance.
"Alpha, please help me!" A lady ran up to me, her eyes brimming with tears. "My son, h-he is considered a suspect! He was framed! Please, please believe me."
She pleaded as she fell to the ground on her knees. Feeling startled, I managed to grab her arms in time and began to help her up.
"I'll have to look into this, before I say anything." I told her gently, patting her hand. "I'm sorry, I can't give you any reassurance."
She hiccupped, sorrow clouding her features. "T-that's alright. I'm sorry to have bothered you, Alpha. Please look into it properly, I know he's innocent!"
Ivy and Kyle stepped by my side then. "Ma'am, we will do everything in the name of justice." Kyle said, narrowing his eyes at her. "Please step aside."
As though reality had finally hit her, she stepped aside with her head hung low. I walked passed her and walked straight onto the scene.
I heard exclaims thrown around like, 'lock them up!', 'kill them!', 'give them a beating, Alpha!'.
I turned the corner to find a number of warrior surrounding three suspects, who wore silver collars. They all turned towards me and bowed. "Alpha, I'll be updating you." One spoke up.
I stayed quiet as he filled me in, my eyes glued onto the three. Two of them were knocked out and the other was eying me with caution.
"So eight have died?" I repeated, my voice heavy. "Are you sure there aren't any more culprits?"
"Yes, Alpha. We're sure it was only these three."
"Have you identified the bodies?" I asked, the stench of fresh blood was bothering me.
"We're currently in the process of doing that."
"How did they attack them?" I asked, folding my arms. "Weapons?"
"Um, so no weapons was used." He responded, looking hesitant and wary. "The murders were done by hand, so we're taking extra precautions."
"By hand?" I repeated with a frown. "Does anyone know their occupations?"
They definitely weren't warriors, that's for sure. I could tell.
"This one is a medical student." Another piped up, harshly kicking the awake suspect's back. "I recognise the scum."
"He is already apprehended, no need for unnecessary violence." I warned the warrior, making him bow in submission.
Lucio and Enzo raised an eyebrow at me, wondering why I cared. I turned away from them, I couldn't care less about the culprit. However, we have to be level-headed people who don't behave like savages.
We weren't rogues or humans, after all.
I walked up to the suspect, and crouched down beside him. "How did you kill them?" I questioned, my mood darkening at the sight of blood on his clothing. My aura had changed as I began to showcase my true presence as his Alpha.
His eyes widened in fear as he saw my eyes change from grey to silver, I had purposefully brought my wolf closer to the front of my mind, letting him know not to anger me.
"Speak!" I barked, making the guy jump in terror.
Tears spilled from his eyes, trailing down his cheeks. "I didn't do it! I didn't kill anyone!"
My gaze moved onto his bloodied clothes and hands, before settling on his face again. He glanced down at himself, confusion and terror etching his face. "I don't know why I'm covered in blood! Please believe me! I don't remember anything! I didn't kill anyone...please..."
The warriors around him scoffed in disbelief, anger clouding their features. "This little fuck! Why is he denying it? The evidence is clear. He was found at the crime scene too."
"Why hadn't you fled the crime scene?" I calmly asked the guy.
Another scoffed and said, "Because he knew we'd catch his murdering ass anyway."
I let an angry growl rip from my throat, silencing him and everyone.
"Leave!" I roared, feeling extremely annoyed of his presence. He took a step back, his eyes wide with shock, before leaving.
"I don't know why I was at the scene in the first place, I don't even live anywhere around here!" The suspect responded, tears trailing down his face. "When I came to, I was with two bodies, covered in blood and miles away from my home."
"He's telling the truth."
Everyone looked at Lucio, regarding him as though he was mad. I had thought the same thing as him, but it wasn't something to announce just yet. I was seventy per cent sure that that demon was involved somehow, but I couldn't draw the conclusion to that.
Not yet, anyway. So what was Lucio doing, and how could he be so sure?
"Are you serious?" Another questioned, frowning at Lucio. "Like, are you really fucking serious?"
Lucio's expression darkened considerably. "Are you questioning me?"
She shrugged and said, "You aren't exactly my Alpha."
"Well, your Alpha is telling you to respect him." I snarled. Why were they all annoying me today?
She swallowed her pride and said, "In that case, I apologise."
"As for what Lucio said, I'm leaning towards this man's innocence. I have my reasons and conclusions, to which I will investigate thoroughly with a selective force of warriors. Be assured that no decision will be made lightly, so don't concern yourselves in this business no more. You are all dismissed."
"But the prisoners..." Another piped up, not leaving to guard them.
I held his gaze steadily as I said, "There are two Alphas, a Beta and two Gammas; don't embarrass yourself further and leave."
They all reluctantly left, leaving my group with the three suspects. I turned towards Lucio and glared at him. "That wasn't smart of you."
His golden eyes held my silver ones with seriousness, before grinning a little. "You know, you've always reminded me of a cat when you glare."
Silence.
Kyle choked on nothing, dramatically grabbing his throat.
Ivy snorted in efforts to stifle her laughter..
Enzo stared at his Alpha, his mouth hanging open.
I simply went, "Huh? A cat?"
He simply nodded, not bothering to elaborate. Enzo turned to look at me, his eye taking in my features. "I think it's the eye shape."
I said nothing.
"Lucio likes cats." He blurted, earning a hard smack on the head by his Alpha.
Kyle laughed at this, finding it hilarious. "But you're a doggie!"
Ivy smacked his head. "So are you!"
He halted in his laughter, taking that in. "Oh shit, we're all doggies!"
"Doggies? We're werewolves!"
"Moving on..." I interrupted, still feeling confused. "It wasn't smart of you to say that earlier, Lucio. You can't just outright say this guy is innocent."
"I didn't say he was innocent." Lucio retorted, shaking his head. "I'm just pretty good at telling who's lying, and who isn't."
I raised an eyebrow at that. "Is that so."
"Very so." Enzo responded to that. "He's incredible when it comes to that."
"Yeah, well. It isn't a reliable method of testing someone's innocence, so I'm doing it my way." I told them. I mind linked some of my closest warriors and assigned them to this case, they were on their way.
Lucio raised his hands in mock surrender, looking very amused. "Of course."
"However, I wish to speak with you about my thoughts on this case. I'll let you know when I'm available tomorrow." I told him, resting my hand on the pommel part of my sword. "Looks like there's no fighting..."
Kyle chuckled at that. "You almost sound disappointed."
That surprised me. "Really?"
I guess I kind of wanted some action, as bad as it sounded. Lucio's curious gaze was lingering on my sword. "When do you ever use that sword? I've only ever seen you wield the machete in battle."
I frowned at him. "But, you've only ever seen me fight once."
"You know what I meant." He sighed, looking away.
Feeling exhausted, I decide not to answer, waving him off.
"Maya only ever uses the machete in fights and battles." Ivy confirmed for him. "Maya always fights with the sword around her waist, but doesn't use it. Honestly, don't hold your breath and expect her to use it."
Enzo and Lucio exchanged confused looks.
"Basically, she only draws her sword when she needs to fight for real." Kyle explained. "Otherwise, she only relies on her machete."
I nodded at what they said, it was pretty accurate.
"So if Maya draws her sword, then that's probably the biggest compliment her opponent will ever get." He continued, glancing at my sword. "Also, if you could believe it, Maya is better at handling a sword than her machete. So, her drawing the sword is basically, 'game over'."
I flushed at Kyle's wording and compliments. "Okay, that's enough." I grinned at him because he looked proud of me.
"When have you ever drawn your sword then?" Enzo asked curiously.
"Only twice." I responded. "Against my parents."
They both visibly paled at the thought of fighting my parents, with silver no less. Let's just say my parents were...on the wild side.
The five warriors I had mind-linked earlier had finally arrived. They greeted us before taking the three suspects with them. With a sigh, I suggested to go back to the Alpha Manor. The sun had completely set, the sky was a pretty blue with a few clouds decorating it.
I had a lot of damn work to do tomorrow...
"I need to arrange a meeting..." I mumbled to myself, before taking off in a full sprint. I heard everyone sigh at the thought of running back, before they ran.
"I feel funny." Kyle commented, frowning ahead of him. "Oh no..."
We all looked towards him. "What is it? Any concerns?"
His frown deepened, making my worry increase. "I think...shit..."
"What Kyle?" Ivy asked, her blue eyes wide.
"I think I ate too much, I'm gunna throw up."
"Oh for fuck sake, Kyle!"
