Plans for Lucio and his six warriors to stay in my pack, for the next three months, had been put into action right away. I gave them three days to have their belongings flown over, and for them to properly settle in.

I had offered five of his warriors to live in the Knight Manor, whereas Lucio, Enzo and one warrior were living in my manor. Alfonso, Lucio's father, had flown back to his pack to aid the Beta to run it. Right now, I was heading towards the room I had told Lucio to meet me in.

We were going to be talking about pack, and possibly mate, business.

Everyone had finished breakfast and was going about their day as normal. His unique and attractive scent had filled my home, increasing as I got nearer to him. I pushed the large door open, knowing he was behind it, and walked right in.

He was sitting on a leather sofa, leaning back as he scrolled through his phone. He wore casual clothes, wearing grey joggers with a black T-shirt. I tried hard to not stare at his well built, toned body, as I sat opposite him.

Although his phone was right by his face, his golden eyes were following my movements since I had arrived. He slowly brought the device down, turned it off and set it down on the coffee table in front of him.

He leaned forward, hands on his knees and smirked. "You're late."

I glanced at the time and scoffed. "No, you're early."

Annoyance flashed across his handsome face. "It's better to be early, than be on time."

I blinked at his logic. "Why would I waste my precious time like that?"

His jaw ticked at my response, before heavily sighing. "Alright, let's start."

"Rumours have already circulated about our alliance." I started to say, crossing my legs. His golden eyes darkened considerably at the sight of my long, tanned legs. I was wearing shorts today, due to the warm weather.

His eyes returned to it's original colour, almost immediately, as he got his emotions in check. He controlled himself so well, that if it had been anyone else in my place, they wouldn't have noticed.

Nonetheless, I pretended not to notice and carried on. "We need to officially confirm the rumours. This will be a big announcement, so let's go all out. We need to make it as big a deal as it is."

"Sounds good. Everyone needs to know." He agreed, cracking his fingers and nodding. "When shall we do this?"

"Tomorrow?" I suggested. "Why wait?"

"Why not today?"

"I'm busy, that's why. Or I would have the announcement done today."

We fell into silence, leaning back in our seats and holding each other's intense gaze. Three days ago he initiated the mate bond, completing the first, simple stage of skin to skin contact. There is no doubt that there is more attraction between us, we could both clearly feel it.

"Three days ago, you initiated the mate bond." I started to say, my eyes narrowing at him. "I don't recall giving you permission to do that."

He raised an eyebrow at me. "Permission? You said you were ready."

"Are you familiar with the concept of consent?" I asked patronisingly. "Consent is what I'm referring to."

"Ah. Do you regret it?"

I thought hard  about that, wondering if I did. "I can't reply with a yes or no. It hasn't benefited me nor has it troubled me. I think I'm more intrigued about your reaction."

"My reaction?"

He's asking a lot of damn questions, it's getting annoying.

"Yes, you said 'this would work'." I told him, remembering his comment. "What did you mean? It didn't sound like you were referring to our relationship."

Recognition appeared on his face, remembering his words. "Ah, that."

I stayed silent, waiting for him to explain. He sighed and ran his hand through his dark hair before saying anything.

"I actually was referring to our relationship, us being mates. If I'm going to be honest, when I realised you were my mate, I was sure that it wasn't going to work out."

The pit of my stomach churned with hurt, a reaction to his words. Despite this, I kept my expression neutral and impassive. "And why is that?"

He paused uncertainly, choosing his next words carefully. My sharp eyes narrowed at him, what was he hiding? After a couple of seconds of him thinking, he slumped in his seat and sighed. "Sorry, Maya."

My eyes narrowed even further, taken aback by his sudden apology. I didn't know he was capable of such a thing. I definitely knew that I was one of the very few that had the privilege of getting an apology.

He sheepishly scratched the back of his head, and shrugged. "I'm not supposed to say anything."

What the hell was he talking about?

"Okay, so you have this secret that affects our relationship?" I asked, possibilities rushing through my mind.

"Not directly. And it's not my secret, it just a secret that I know is true." He corrected me, before pausing unsurely. "I think."

"So that means someone told you this secret, or you found out yourself." I murmured to myself.  "Likelihood is that someone told you and asked you to keep it a secret, that's why you're so hellbent on keeping quiet about it. You clearly respect and trust that person, so you'd never spill it to anyone. Not even your mate."

His grip on his knees tightened, as his eyes flashed a dangerous red. "Don't think too hard into it, you'll regret it Maya. You really will."

I held back a smirk, judging by his reaction, I was definitely on the right lines.

"You should know by now, that very little things have the ability to scare me." I told him, feeling insulted by his warning.

"Things, huh? How about people?"

My eyes changed, transforming from their usual stormy grey colour into icy silver. "I fear no one."

Maybe my parents though...

He put his hands up comedically, and chuckled. "Alright Miss Alpha, calm down."

My eyes don't change back as I scrutinise him. "It may surprise you to know that I actually don't care about the secret. However, this secret is the reason you're hesitant about us. Correct?"

He didn't need to answer, I knew I was right.

What was this secret about?

"Let's stop talking about this." He suddenly said, looking away. "I don't want to talk about it. When I initiated the mate bond, I did it only because I saw hope of our relationship working out."

"But why wouldn't it work out?" I asked with frustration. I already knew he wasn't going to answer my question, his neutral expression revealed no clues.

I breathed in deeply and outwardly too, twirling the ends of my hair. Let's look on the bright side of things. At least we were getting somewhere, he had communicated to me a little. It's better than getting no response.

Okay, time to bring in the big guns.

"Does it involve your mum?"

His eyes shifted, immediately turning blood red when I said that. His entire body was on high alert and stiff when he asked, "What makes you say that?"

I rolled my eyes and said, "Your reaction gives me all the reasons to believe that is the case. As for the reason I brought it up, you brought her up four days ago; on the day you fought those abnormal rogues. You asked me if I had met her before, so randomly too. Remember?"

His fiery eyes stayed glued on me for a while, before he calmly closed them. "I do remember. How stupid of me."

"What does your mother have to do with me or our relationship?" I asked cautiously, feeling my eyes turn back to grey.

He opened his eyes, revealing those intense, crimson coloured irises. He was furious and on the verge of attacking me, I could feel it. "Watch your mouth, Maya." He snarled as his intense, raging aura seeped out from him.

I knew that his mother had passed away in this country, does he think we had something to do with it? I didn't know the details of her death, I think it may have been murder. I'm sure was kept in the dark about it since I was only fourteen. But I'll learn more about it soon.

So, did his mother not like me when she met me eight years ago? What was it?

"I will not say anything ill about her, Lucio. I only met her once, and I thought she was wonderful. Everyone respected and still respects her as the great Luna she was, why are you so defensive about me speaking about her?"

He stood up suddenly, not looking me in the eye. I could clearly see the conflict of emotions on his face, making me stand up with concern. I was actually concerned about him, who made him so paranoid about this 'secret'?

"I can't do this. I'm leaving."

"When the conversation gets tough, you leave? How weak-minded you are." I snarled, crossing my arms.

He viciously snarled back, equally as annoyed. "No, it's the sensible thing to do, idiot."

Idiot?

A loud angry growl ripped from my throat, not accepting that disrespectful tone of his. Regardless if he's an Alpha, my mate or ally, no one can speak to me like that. However, he carried on like he hadn't heard me.

"I need time to gather my thoughts and calm my rage, or I'll take it out on y-."

"Then go run off, you coward!" I roared, letting my anger get the better of me.

He suddenly punched the wall beside him, making a huge hole in my wall. I clamped my hand over my mouth in horror, as I stared at the damage he had done. All the conversation we had just had flew from my mind, as I registered the seriousness of the situation.

If my mum saw this...

Shit.

"My mum is going to kill you." I blurted out loud, my voice barely a whisper.

His eyes widened a little, as his irises cooled down to his normal golden colour. "Wait, what?" He questioned, retracting his hand from the wall.

"I heard something." My mum mind-linked me, sounding concerned.

My panic filled our connection, making her more worried. "Maya?"

Panic followed guilt, making her suspicious. "Maya Hunter, what did you do?"

"I don't know?" I responded unsurely, making it sound like a question. I think I'm paired with a crazy, bad-tempered doggy.

"Should I be worried? I'm about to leave the manor, right now."

"No, mum. Sorry, I worried you." I reassured her, masking my real thoughts. "See you later?"

"Alright, I'm not convinced but I'll see you later." She told me with a chuckle. "You better have not damaged anything!"

"I've not!" I responded honestly, before the connection cut.

Lucio's striking eyes were on me, taking the opportunity to let his gaze slowly trail across my body. Who in the name of bi-polar shit am I paired with? Once I stopped talking to my mum, I faced him completely.

"I think I've just increased your life span, be grateful." I told him, pushing past him.

"You didn't rat me out?" He asked, glancing at the damaged wall with some guilt. "That's unexpected."

"Only because I need my ally alive."

It's good that my mum rarely uses that room, if ever. I need to somehow get it fixed so she doesn't find out, or who knows how she'll blow up.

"Hmm, Elisia Hunter-Knight." He murmured, saying my mother's full name. "How does it feel to have legendary parents?"

"It was pressurising, although my parents had tried to make it better. The pressurising expectations mostly came from outsiders, not my parents. It's not so hard to deal with now that I've gotten much more powerful, I don't feel the pressure so much anymore."

He curtly nodded, but didn't say anything. We were heading towards the living room where we heard some people hanging out. I gave him one last glare, to let him know I was still mad at him.

When we walked in, we were greeted with an interesting scene.

Enzo and Kyle were arm-wrestling each other, with one BloodRose warrior and Ivy cheering them on. They barely glanced at their Alphas who had walked in, and continued to yell.

"Come on, Kyle!" Ivy yelled, fisting the air. "I didn't raise no damn weakling!"

"But you didn't raise me." Kyle responded with a squeaked.

"Shut up and win, you weakling!" She roared, as if she was in battle.

"Wow." Lucio commented, taken aback by her roughness.

Lucio, once again, saw Ivy's harsh and blunt side. It was quite hilarious, because Ivy was mostly a calm and sweet person. Seeing Lucio see this side of her every time her saw her, was hilarious to me.

She finally took notice of me, and beamed her usual warm smile. "Hey, did you eat yet?" She asked softly, a calm, pleasant aura emitting from her.

I smiled back, ignoring Lucio's confusion on how quickly she had changed. "Breakfast? Yeah, of course."

"Good." She nodded in satisfaction. She glanced at Lucio and clarified, "She would sometimes miss breakfast for the sake of doing work."

"Uhuh." He responded uncertainly, unsure how to judge her character.

Enzo and Kyle started puffing as they struggled against each other's power. Gamma verses (future) Gamma. Their strength was almost on the same level, I wonder how long they've been at this.

"They've been going for almost ten minutes." She told me, crossing her arms. "If no one wins by ten minutes, it's a tie."

Ten minutes of constant strain on your muscles? I glanced back to the arm wrestling match, they were really dedicated. They struggled to push their opponents hand down, and the time eventually reached to ten minutes.

They let go of each other's hands and fell back, panting from how intense it was.

"I'm not doing that again, ugh." Kyle complained, rolling his arm and massaging its muscles. "You know, it felt like being forced to go down in an elevator when you wanna go up."

Silence.

"What...?" Lucio spoke up, confusion etched onto his face.

Enzo sat up from his previous position and frowned at Kyle. "What the fuck does that even mean?"

Ivy and I remained quiet, watching the scene in amusement.

"I get what you mean...but that was a weird way to put it." Lucio said, pausing to give Kyle weirded out looks.

Kyle made an elaborate hand gesture and stated, "It's because we are on a different level, Alpha boy. It is how it is, there is nothing you can do about it, golden eyes."

Lucio opened his mouth to respond, and then closed it again. He turned to me, still looking helplessly confused and shrugged. "I honestly do not know how to respond to that."

"That's because you know I'm right, Alpha boy." Kyle chuckled, standing up triumphantly.

The only BloodRose warrior who was here, awkwardly stood by Enzo, stared at Kyle in disbelief. "Alpha boy?" He repeated, looking stunned.

Enzo scratched his head in disbelief. "I don't know what he's talking about anymore."

"That's because you're not on his level, you've got to get on his level to understand." Ivy told him seriously, rolling her eyes like it was obvious. Kyle nodded in approval, earning her a high five.

I held back a smile as I admired my best friends, they were incredible.

"Okay, let's move on from this." Enzo retorted, shaking his head at us. "So, when will the alliance announcement happen?"

"Tomorrow." Lucio and I respond in unison.

Ivy nodded at this. "Nice."

Kyle's curious gaze never left Lucio. "You know, whenever I try to remember you from that visit, eight years ago, I can only think of your brother."

Lucio chuckled for the first time, his expression brightening at the mention of his brother. "Ah, you met Luca then?"

I raised an eyebrow at his complete change of character, it was pretty interesting to see.

"Yeah, he was a cool guy." Kyle retorted as he reminisced. "We got very close really quickly, even though he's much older than me. I remember him being so kind, and funny."

"Yup, sounds like him." Lucio confirmed with a small smile.

"Although, I'm surprised that he didn't end up as the Alpha of your pack." Kyle carried on, with a quizzical look.

Lucio chuckled at that, looking deeply amused. "Everyone says that, but honestly, Luca was never interested in becoming Alpha. It sounds weird to others when they come to know this, but it's the truth."

I watched Kyle smile and nod at this, giving me an idea. "We could arrange a reunion, if you want."

"Reunion?" Kyle repeated with a loud laugh. "I literally knew him for several days, about eight years ago. But that still sounds good."

Lucio seemed happy to hear this. "Luca can come here, to your territory?"

I shrugged, putting my hands on my hips. "I don't see why it would be a problem, lets do it!"

I hadn't seen him since eight years ago, nor do I know much about him. Unlike his younger brother, Lucio, he stayed out of the limelight. If I looked hard enough, I'm sure I'd find a somewhat recent picture of him. I was curious to know the person who had the power to make Lucio smile like that.
