Chapter 2
I'm so confused right now, about everything. What does my sister mean "I'm an Immortal?" My mind is fighting really hard to deny it but I can still tell that my sister was telling the truth despite how crazy she sounds. The only way to find out completely what's going on is for me to do as Collete said and talk to my parents.
I walk down the steps and into the living room. As soon as I get into the room my parents whispering stops. I don't say anything and silently hand them the note from Collete. They read the note and get up and hug me. "It's going to be okay Nicole. We will help you get through this. You will be ready to save your sister." "How? How will I save her?" I start yelling at them frantically. "I'm going to be 13 in one week. A 13 year old can't fight anyone, let alone kill anyone." I'm breathing hard now and my parents are staring at me with sad looks on their faces. My mother is the first one to speak. "Nicole, we will train you to be able to fight. You will learn how to use your powers. In one week you turn 13 and that is when your training starts. Go to school and enjoy your youth before the training begins. And here," She hands me a gold chain. "It's for your heart. Always wear it because without it you could show the humans your true nature." I'm too tired and upset to protest. I go upstairs and get ready to head to school for the rest of my classes.
The second I get to school I feel the stares of my schoolmates and the whispers behind my back. My friends Ava and Bree run over to me and start asking questions like I knew they would. "Oh my gosh Nikky are you okay?" Ava hugs me and I stare at her like she's nuts. "No of course your'e not okay. That was a stupid question." "It's okay Ava. I'll be fine eventually. I just wish people weren't staring at me the entire time." Bree answers me this time. "They'll all get over it eventually. Don't worry about them." I smile at both Bree and Ava and think that I'm glad to have such good best friends.
Pretty soon a week has past and my 13th birthday had arrived. I shouldn't have been surprised after all that happened but I was. My entire family came to celebrate my turning 13. I have to laugh at all the presents I'm recieving from them. One of my aunts gave me a vial of poison "in case I ever needed it." But the most elaborate of the gifts was the one from my parents. They gave me a silver dagger with a pink rose encrusted along the handle. The handle is hallowed gold and the rest is pure silver. Rubies are encrusted in the handle in between the leaves of the rose. The entire dagger looks deadly but there is also an undeniable beauty to it. It fit perfectly inside the black leather sheath I recieved from my cousin Damon. He's in 9th grade and 15 years old. "I'll be in charge of your training, not your parents." He smiles at me as he tells me this and I recieve the unspoken message: "since your sister can't."
