the spiderwick chronicles

chapter 2

Ashl0390

Brandon was staring at the broken vase that was just thrown at him by some invisible force. He was trying to wrap his head around it, before he slapped himself.

''Focus Brandon! You found a creepy note that was telling you to leave this place, then you got a vase thrown at you by who knows what.'' Brandon quickly realized that this must have something to do with the book.

He let out a sigh before travelling to the front door, having to dodge another vase and a book. When he got to the front door, he noticed that Ash wasn't there before something close to the ground shimmered. It shimmered for a few seconds before a strange, green creature appeared and screeched at him.

It jumped towards closet to him and was letting out a quiet growl. Brandon wasn't sure what to do until a small voice whispered in one of his ears.

''Use your bat to fight it. And when it throws something at you, use your bat to block it right before it hits you, and it will prevent it's attack from harming you.'' Brandon looked around with a look of confusion before he shook his head and narrowed his eyes at the creature infront of him.

Brandon let out a low growl before jumping towards it and hitting it with a bat. He than jumped back, just as quickly as he had jumped forward. The creature let out a growl before grabbing a vase and throwing it and Brandon. Brandon waited until the vase was just about to hit him, before he pulled up his bat and blocked it. He than jumped towards the creature again and hit it once more before jumping back.

The creature let out a growl before running off towards the kitchen. Brandon stared at it for a few seconds before he heard the voice again.

''Read the book.'' He did as the voice had said before finding a page with the same creature he fought.

''It must have been this boggart thet was causing trouble around the house...'' Brandon wasn't sure if he was talking to himself or the mysterious voice.

Brandon knew that there was honey in the kitchen, so he decided to follow the boggart and head to the kitchen. He had to dodge a potted plant in the piano room, and a teapot in the kitchen, but he did manage to find the honey. He grabbed about five bottles before putting them in a satchel he had found earlier, which seemed to be bigger on the inside than it is kn the outside. He wasn't sure where the boggart had gone, when he heard the voice again.

''In the attic.'' Brandon smiled before responding.

''Why, thank you mysterious voice.'' He could have sworn that the voice let out a quiet chuckle, but didn't stop to think about it.

He went into the dumbwaiter before bringing himself up to the attic. He walked towards where he found the chest before seeing the boggart. He pulled out his bat once the boggart noticed him, but still had a question in his mind.

'How am I going to get him the honey?'' That question was soon answered by the mysterious voice.

''Throw the honey bottle at him.'' Brandon nodded before opening his satchel and tossing a bottle at the boggart.

It happily ate the honey before it's form changed into something different, causing Brandon to decide that he'll look at the book later to find out a bit about the brownie.

''Now that you seem to have calmed down. It's nice to meet you, my name is Brandon.'' The brownie gave him a small smile before introducing himself.

''O friendly intruder, Thimbletack is my name.'' Brandon chuckled before Thimbletack continued.

''Thanks for the honey all the same.'' Brandon nodded before asking him a question.

''Hey Thimbletack, some strange voice was helping me when I first ran into you, do you have any idea what it could have been?'' The brownie went into thought for a moment before speaking again.

''It's a creature of the fantastical world like me, so you look through a special stone in order to see.'' As Thimbletack finished, he pulled out a round stone that looks like a ring.

Brandon looked through it and noticed that there was something small fluttering next to him.

''Hello there, I'm guessing that you're the mysterious voice I heard earlier?'' The creature nodded before introducing himself.

''My name is David, and I'm what's known as a mix Sprite." (Doesn't exist in the game but I don't actually care)

Brandon sent a smile to the Sprite.

''Well, thanks for your help David.'' David smiled before he flew to Brandon's shoulder and sat on it.

''No problem my friend, after all, your uncle, Arthur Spiderwick, has helped my family in the past.'' Brandon let out a hum in acknowledgment before he heard Thimbletack speak up.

''There is a fell smell in the air. I suggest you take care.'' Brandon was confused and was about to ask what he meant when David spoke.

''You don't mean... them... do you?'' Thimbletack sighed before answering.

''I am afraid so... especially since a spiderwick hasn't been here since so long ago.'' David sighed and Brandon was confused.

''What do you mean?'' Thimbletack spoke once more.

''Could be trouble, could be not, but it seems my warning came too late. There is now no hope for your family's fate.'' Brandon was even more confused.

''What do you mean by that?'' Thimbletack sighed once again.

''Goblins live inside the woods. And it doesn't look good.'' Brandon suddenly got a bad feeling, causing him to walk to the window and look out, not keeping the stone infront of his eye.

He let out a gasp when he saw Ritchie, who suddenly fell sideways from getting knocked over by some type of invisible force. David had seen what knocked over the human's younger twin, causing him to let out a gasp.

''Brandon! Look through the stone!'' Brandon didn't hesitate and placed the stone over his eye, allowing him to see that Ritchie was barely conscious and being dragged away by two creatures.

''What are those?!'' Brandon was horrified but was planning on saving his brother.

''Those are goblins!'' David exclaimed before Brandon spoke once again.

''I'm going to save him.'' He turned to leave but froze when David flew into his satchel.

''I'm going with you. I just made a friend and I don't plan on losing him.'' Brandon nodded and quickly made his way to the door, not feeling any fear until Thimbletack spoke his next rhyme, causing fear to creep into Brandon.

''You must make haste! Goblins think that children have an excellent taste!!'' Brandon nodded before rushing out the door that lead to the main hall, not even bothering to look back.

'Don't worry Ritchie, your brother's going to save you'

Before I give my usual goodbye, this is what the page for the brownie looks like in the nds game.

Remember to always try and have a good day/night. Bye wolf pups!!
