Futures between them.
He loved her.

If he leaned in,

Farther.
Without him.
She loved him.
She knew it.
But love, to her,
was a wound.
Every time she reached before,
she bled.
Every time she trusted,
she broke.
So she kept her hands in her pockets.
Safe.
Empty.
They spoke around it.
He asked about exams.
She asked if he ate.
They laughed about nothing.
Sent memes at 3 a.m.
Pretended it was enough.
But sometimes—
in the silence between messages,
in the static of late-night calls—
the truth hummed.
Loud.
Unspoken.
