One week later
Because it was midterm season, Sol A was busy studying, so she hadn’t been to the hospital for the past two days. As usual, today after class she planned to visit the professor. When she stepped into the lobby, it suddenly started raining. Everyone else had already left, but since she had forgotten to bring an umbrella, Sol A had no choice but to wait for the rain to stop. Suddenly, she saw a very familiar figure holding an umbrella, walking toward her. The man came closer and looked up at her.
“Gyosunim”
Before Professor Yang could reply, Sol A ran into his arms and cried loudly. Her sobs were even louder than the sound of the rain outside. All the sorrow and longing burst out at once. Professor Yang didn’t know what to do other than hold her and try to comfort her. His stomach wound hurt terribly, but seeing Sol A like this hurt even more.
“Sol A, mianhae, jongmal mianhae”
Hearing his voice, Sol A cried even harder. She had missed the man in front of her so much.
Five minutes later
Sol A finally stopped crying and looked up at him. He gently wiped away the tears mixed with pain on her face.
“Sol A, I’m so sorry, sorry for making you worry about me like this”
Sol A didn’t know what to say anymore. Her love for him couldn’t be expressed in words.
“Saranghaeyo, jongmal saranghae”
Professor Yang didn’t answer her words directly but gently held her cold, small hands.
“Gaja”
They walked together in the rain.
“Do you want to go somewhere?”
“Let’s go to Busan”
“You want to see the sea?”
“Umm”
Professor Yang drove Sol A to Busan. Along the way, Sol A held his hand tightly, never letting go.
“Wae? Are you afraid I’ll leave you again?”
“Umm, I’m really scared”
“Don’t worry, I will never let go of your hand”
When they arrived, he got out of the car and opened the door for her. Luckily, it wasn’t raining in Busan. The two of them walked hand in hand along the white sand beach. The sea was calm, and there was no one else around.
“While I was unconscious, I could still hear your voice”
“Jinjja?”
“Umm, I heard you crying a lot. Every day you came, you cried. I wanted to hold you, but I couldn’t”
“I’m sorry I didn’t come for the past two days”
“Thanks to that, I finally woke up. If I had to hear you cry one more time, maybe I would’ve been in too much pain to ever wake up”
“You really could hear everything?”
“Umm, while unconscious, I could only hear your voice. So I don’t know if anyone else came”
“Many people came to see you”
“Nugu?”
“Professor Park, Professor Kim, Joon Hwi, Ye Sul, Sol B, and many others. Almost the whole school came to visit you”
“Is that so?”
“Umm”
“I heard you’re preparing for midterms, right?”
“Nae”
“Then focus on studying. Don’t worry about me anymore. You’ve suffered a lot because of me.”
Professor Yang gently stroked her hair as he spoke.
The two of them talked for hours, from afternoon until night.
Since Sol A had class the next day and Professor Yang also had to return to school, they decided to go back.
“Let’s go home, I’ll come pick you up tomorrow”
“Nae”
He drove her from Busan back to Seoul. Because she was tired, Sol A fell asleep in the car. When they arrived at the dorm, she was still asleep. Professor Yang didn’t want to wake her, so he just sat beside her, gazing at her face. His eyes were soft and sweet, only for her.
One hour later
“You’re awake?”
“Why didn’t you wake me?”
“I can wait for you”
“I’ll go in now, remember to take your medicine”
“Umm, I’ll pick you up again tomorrow”
“Nae” Sol A slowly stepped out of the car.
“Annyeong”
Professor Yang waved goodbye, but he still didn’t want to leave her.
Time passed, and thinking that he had already gone home, Sol A called him.
“Have you reached home yet?”
“Umm, I’m home already” In truth, he was still standing outside the dorm, looking up at her room.
“Don’t forget to take your medicine and go to bed early”
“Umm”
“Jaja”
“Jajayo”
After hanging up, Sol A turned off the lights and went to sleep. Only when he saw her room lights go dark did Professor Yang finally drive away.
