When Professor Yang returned home, he opened his laptop and received an email from the school. He was ordered to go on a business trip to Switzerland for quite a long time. He couldn’t refuse because it was a directive from the Korean Embassy in Switzerland. The mission was dangerous, but what worried him more was Sol A, since her leg still hadn’t fully healed.

The next morning

“Yeoboseyo?”
“Nae”
“Have you had breakfast yet?”
“Ani”
“I can’t come to school today, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, but why aren’t you coming to school?”
“I have personal matters to handle, so I don’t think I can see you today”
“We can always meet another day, don’t worry, just take care of your work”
“Umm”

Sol A had no idea that in the coming days, Professor Yang would be leaving for Switzerland. He also had no intention of telling her, afraid that it would make her sad.

Sol A asked Ye Sul to help her get to school and buy her breakfast. That day, they had Professor Yang’s class, but instead of him, another professor walked in to teach criminal law while Professor Yang was away.
“Hello everyone, I’m Han Tae Sung, a new lecturer, and I’ll be in charge of criminal law.”

The whole class erupted in excitement because of his good looks.
“How old are you, professor?”
“I’m 35 years old.”
“Do you have a wife?”
“No.”
“What about a girlfriend?”
“None either.”

The class went wild again, screaming, because Professor Han was not only handsome but also single.
“Since tomorrow Professor Yang has to go to Switzerland to investigate a case, and it may take quite a while, I’ll be teaching in his place for now.”

Sol A was shocked to hear this, because he hadn’t told her anything. Ye Sul and Joon Hwi also looked surprised and turned to ask her.
“Did you know about this?”
“Ani”

Sol A couldn’t concentrate the entire lesson. She sat restless, not listening to Professor Han’s lecture. Even after class, she still couldn’t fully grasp the fact that tomorrow Professor Yang would be leaving Korea.

That night, Sol A went to the park, waiting for a call from him. She waited until late at night, but he never called. Tears began to fall, though she tried to hold back her trembling voice as she called him.
“Yeoboseyo?”
“Why are you calling at this hour?”
“Could you come meet me for a moment?”
“What’s wrong? Why do you want to see me so late?”
“I just… miss you.”

In fact, Professor Yang had already been there, watching her from afar. He just didn’t know how to face her.
“Where are you?”
“I’m at the park in front of the dorm.”
“Don’t cry anymore, I’m coming right now.”

As soon as Sol A looked up, she saw him standing before her. She couldn’t hold back anymore and burst into tears.
“Were you really going to leave without telling me?”
“I’m sorry, I just didn’t know how to say it.”
“I could understand, why would you hurt me like this?” she sobbed loudly.

Professor Yang sat down and held her in his arms.
“Mianhae, jongmal mianhae.”

She couldn’t stop crying, only clutching him in despair.
“Please don’t cry anymore, I’ll leave and come back to you soon.”
“Alright, I’m sorry, but if you cry like this, how can I even leave?”
“Please stop crying.”

After a while, Sol A finally calmed down, but their time together was already running out.
“You’ll come back soon, right?”
“I’ll be gone for about a month, maybe longer. But I’ll finish quickly and return to you.”
“You’re leaving tomorrow, right?”
“Ani.”
“Then when are you leaving?”
“In two hours, I’ll be on the plane.”

At those words, her tears fell again, though she no longer cried out loud. He gently wiped them away and kissed her on the lips, the last kiss he gave her before leaving. Since there wasn’t much time left, Sol A went with him to the airport.

On the way, she leaned her head against his shoulder, holding tightly onto his hand without letting go. Professor Yang gently stroked her tear-streaked face, his eyes full of reluctance. They arrived at the airport just in time for his flight. He turned to her with final words of care.
“Make sure you eat properly, don’t skip breakfast, okay?”
“Nae”
“I won’t be able to call or text you for a while, but don’t worry, I’ll come back soon.”
“Nae”
“I’m going now.”
“Nae”

As soon as he turned away, Sol A’s tears fell again. She tried to hold them back and smiled at him so he wouldn’t worry. Just the thought of not being able to see him or hear his voice made her heart ache. Knowing it was a dangerous mission only made her fear for him even more.

To be continued.
