In the morning, everyone began packing up to return to school, as there had been an announcement that a new professor would be joining that afternoon.

When all the students arrived back at campus, they prepared for the welcome ceremony. Entering the auditorium, each sat down in different spots and started talking about the new professor.
“Sol A, do you know if the new professor is male or female?”
“I don’t know. The school didn’t say.”
“Why don’t you ask Professor Yang?”
“No way. Professor Yang is so annoying.”
“Wae? Don’t you usually follow him around?”
“No, it’s him who follows me.”
“You’re lying again.”
“Yaaa.”
“You like Professor Yang, don’t you?”
“Are you crazy? Why would someone like me fall for him? He’s cold, mean, and definitely not my type.”
“Are you sure about that?”
“Yaa, Ye Sul.”

The sound of the doors opening interrupted their conversation.
“Hello, professors and students. My name is Park Soo Jin. I’m the new professor here at Hankuk Law School, and I will be teaching Administrative Law.”

The room erupted into applause. Everyone was excited, because Professor Park was very beautiful.
“Wow, she’s really pretty.”
“How old do you think she is?”
“Maybe around thirty, she looks young.”
“Yeah, I think so too.”

After the ceremony, the professors went to dinner together to welcome her. They exchanged greetings and chatted throughout the evening. It was late when they finally parted ways.

Since Professor Yang lived nearby, he walked home. Professor Park followed alongside him.
“It’s been a long time. Have you been well?”
“Yes, I’ve been well.”
“Why didn’t you choose to become a prosecutor? Why become a professor instead?”
“Because I wanted to work with you.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes.”
“Don’t tell me you still like me?”
“Aniyo,” Professor Park answered with a smile.
“Where do you live?”
“Near here. And you?”
“Also nearby.”

They walked a bit further until they reached Professor Yang’s building.
“This is my place. I’ll head in.”
“Nae.”

But she followed him into the lobby.
“Why aren’t you going home?”
“My place is here.”
“Jinjja?”
“Nae.”

It turned out they lived in the same building, Yang on the upper floor, Park on the lower.

The next morning

Professor Yang headed downstairs to go to school, only to run into her again.
“Today’s your first lecture, right?”
“Nae.”
“Have you had breakfast?”
“Not yet.”
“Let’s eat together then. I drank too much last night, so I didn’t prepare breakfast.”

He took her to the same sandwich shop where he had once eaten with Sol A. While they were eating, Sol A happened to walk by and saw them.
“They’ve only known each other for a day and already seem close. He’s even eating with her. She’s so pretty, and now she’s next to Professor Yang… is that okay? Ugh, this is irritating.”

In class that day, Sol A wore a sulky expression. Professor Yang noticed, but didn’t know why. Throughout the lecture, she didn’t look at him once. Instead, she focused on writing something in her notebook.
“What are you writing so seriously that you’re not listening to my lecture?” he asked, stepping over to her desk.
“Nothing.”
“Give it here.”
“Wae?” Sol A shot him a fiery glare.
“Come to my office after class,” he ordered, before returning to the front.
“What did he call you to his office for?” a classmate whispered.
“Molla.”

When the lecture ended, Sol A went to his office.
“Professor, I’m here.”
“Come in.”
“Why did you ask me to come?”
“What’s wrong with you today? You weren’t paying attention at all. Do you want to fail my class?”
“Aniyo.”
“Are you upset?”
“Anilagoyo!” she snapped, then stood and stormed out, leaving him stunned. He still didn’t realize that she was jealous of Professor Park.

That evening, wanting to make things right, Professor Yang went to find her.
“Want to eat?”
“Go eat with your Professor Park.”
“Wae?”
“Didn’t you eat sandwiches with her this morning?”
“So you saw that?”
“Nae.”
“Does it bother you that I ate with her?”
“Nae.”
“Then I won’t eat with her anymore.”
“Wae?”
“Because I don’t like it when you’re unhappy.”

Sol A was shocked. The cold, strict professor was actually trying to comfort her. The feeling was a strange mix of happiness and embarrassment.
“What do you want to eat today?”
“Anything is fine.”
“Then let’s have barbecue.”
“Nae.”
“Kaja.”

So the two went to a barbecue restaurant together. Sol A’s anger faded, and they began showing more care and warmth toward each other.
“Another bottle of soju, please,” Sol A ordered.
“You’re going to drink?”
“Nae. Won’t you?”
“I have class tomorrow, so I can’t. You go ahead.”

He grilled meat for her while she ate and poured out all her frustrations from the day. One bottle turned into two, then three. Professor Yang tried to stop her, but she kept drinking until she couldn’t even sit upright anymore.

To be continued.
