"I don't know. I don't know how the Murthy brothers are related to the women. How did they file a case in a day?"
Arnav drowned in thoughts.
"Could you get anything?" Arvind asked, knowing Arnav would provide a solution.
"They didn't leave the Palace. They didn't call anyone. And, the women called Nirmala and Kanaka filed a habeas corpus. How? That means the Murthy brothers should have told them they can be cornered anytime in the Palace. The women might be their lawyers."
"I think no, because they would not have two lawyers. They would make any decision by discussing with each other. They would not have had different lawyers for themselves."
Arnav nodded.
"Yes, you have a point. Then who are they?"
Arvind nodded no.
"What will happen now?"
"The police will not enter our village. I should find out who the women are before making any move"
"But as per the habeas corpus, the police should surrender the victim in the court within twenty-four hours. Then what will the police do?"
"See, Arnav. This is their house. They are with their respective wives and daughters. I'm his brother-in-law. They have no relatives other than Ratna. Then, who could file the case? The court would not have taken the case just like that. Nirmala and Kanaka would have submitted their identity. We should know why they filed the case and who they are"
"Mmm... Appa, is there any chance for them to be their mistresses?"
Arvind looked at him in shock.
"They didn't leave the Palace for just a day. They didn't have their phone for just a day. Only their CLOSE relatives would be worried about them if they don't get a response from them for a day. In that case, their families are with them. Then, who would be concerned about them in a day?"
Arvind nodded hurriedly.
"These idiots would have had mistresses."
"Where are their phones?"
Arvind removed them from the table locker and gave them to Arnav. He switched them on. In no time, the notifications about the missed calls started appearing on the phones. Both phones had many missed calls from a particular number.
At the same time, Arnav got a call. He attended.
"Tell me"
"............"
"Yes..."
"..........."
"Oh..."
"............"
"That's great. You have done a wonderful job"
Arnav disconnected the call and smiled at Arvind.
"My guess is right. They are their mistresses."
"How do you know? Who was on call?"
"Our SPY team head, Siva,"
Arvind wondered.
"Spy team? Did you form it again?" he asked, getting amazed.
Arnav nodded yes.
"But, how did you do that? When did it happen?"
"The very next day, you gave me the list of your spy team."
"Have you gathered them?"
"Yes, through Siva, I gathered them and they started working too."
"That's great. What did he say?"
"He said the woman who filed the case is their mistress"
"How does he know about it?"
"The policemen talked about them when waiting for you there. Siva heard it and told me."
"Ok, what are we going to do now?"
"I'm not going to do anything but you", Arnav said contentedly.
"Me? What do you want me to do?"
Arnav told him what he should do. Arvind nodded smilingly.
"They are going to pee..."
Arnav chuckled.
"Let's go"
They ordered the guards to get the Murthy brothers and their families in the same room. The guards gathered them. All of them looked rigid as if Arvind and Arnav had done something wrong.
"Who are Nirmala and Kanaka?" Arvind asked.
Chandra Murthy and Krishna Murthy looked at him, horrified. They looked at each other and gulped down.
"I... don't know..." both said in the same tone.
"If you don't know them, why did they file habeas corpus cases in the court? Why do they worry about you? Why are they nervous just because you didn't show up for just a day and didn't pick up their calls?"
"Habeas corpus?" Lalitha asked, frowning.
"Yes, the police called me and told me about the case. When your wife and daughters are here with you, who are they to bother about your absence?" Arvind intentionally said that to seed suspicion in Savithri and Sarojini's minds. He was succeeded.
"Who are they?" Asked Sarojini.
"How do we know?" Krishna Murthy said.
"There are forty-six missed calls on your phone from Kanaka," Arvind said, showing his phone.
All looked at Krishna Murthy.
"And, fifty-three missed calls on your mobile from Nirmala", Arvind said to Chandra Murthy.
"Who is she?" Savithri asked.
Chandra Murthy gestured for her to be quiet and signalled not to talk in front of Arvind and Arnav, but Savithri was not satisfied.
"And the important point is, they filed the case only for Chandra and Krishna. Not for you, people." Arvind said, looking at Savithri and Sarojini teasingly.
They glared at their respective husbands.
"I don't know why they are concerned about your husband... more than you have...! See, how bothered they are that they filed habeas corpus cases in the court, just because they could not talk to them for a day."
All of them understood what Arvind was highlighting. That made all of them nervous in different ways because they knew Arvind would not say anything that was not true. He would talk only if he was sure about it.
Savithri and Sarojini were gulped down. Were Kanaka and Nirmala sharing their husbands? They felt a shiver down their spine. Chandra Murthy and Krishna Murthy closed their eyes, seeing their wife's condition. They didn't know what to do. They were unsure that they could even coax their respective wife after Arvind's doubtful statements.
"Kanaka and Nirmala were cousin sisters, living in the town. People in that area were thinking they were your..." Arvind stopped and looked at them.
"No... It's not true. Kanaka is not my wife but my lawyer. I discussed some business points with her. That's all." Krishna Murthy said hurriedly.
"But, I didn't mention KANAKA's name. then why did you take her name? And, at first, you said you don't know her?"
"I was confused. I didn't know who you were talking about. That's why I said I don't know her"
"Do you trust this?" Arvind asked Sarajini, who glared at Krishna Murthy.
"Don't get angry, Sarojini. You didn't stop him when he cheated me. Then, how do you expect him to be loyal to you?" Arvind asked.
"Mama, what you are thinking is wrong", Krishna Murthy panicked.
"I can prove it, Krishna, as they filed habeas corpus cases. I have to surrender both of you to the court. I will reveal everything because they will also come to the court."
"No, Mama. They would have called us to discuss our hotel shares. As we didn't pick up their calls, they would have filed the cases as they knew we would not go anywhere other than the palace."
"I don't know what to say. I'm going to tell the police that you are safe at my palace with your family. And will surely meet Nirmala and Kanaka."
"I will ask her to withdraw the case if you let me talk to her." Chandra Murthy said.
"How could you do that? Will she listen to you?"
"Yeah, I could..."
"Let me see, how you talk to your lawyer", Arvind extended the phone, smiling mockingly.
Taking the phone, Chandra Murthy called Nirmala. The call was attended.
"Lawyer madam..."
As Chandra Murthy didn't expect, before he said anything, Savithri snatched the phone and turned the speaker on. That was precisely what Arvind wanted to do, but Savithri took the lead.
"Hello, what happened to you? Why didn't you come home yesterday? Do you know how eagerly OUR SON waited for you without cutting his birthday cake?"
Savithri seethed in anger, and that was visible on her face. Arvind and Arnav smirked at each other.
