26 Fire...backfire...
Part 26 Fire...backfire
Subhadra stood, sweating badly. She couldn't believe that she is seeing Khushi and Garima alive. She couldn't guess how could they escaped from the fire. Words were not coming from her mouth.
"Please, come in, Garimaji." Arvind greeted her.
Garima was looking at Subhadra sternly.
"She doesn't want to stay here, Dad... she has not agreed to it yet," Arnav said.
"Please don't deny Garimaji...where will you go?" Arvind asked.
"That's what I'm also asking her Dad..."
"No, Arvindji, it won't be good to see me in my daughter's going to be in-law's..." Garima said calmly.
"No, Garima, you don't have to think about it... we won't let you go... you should be with us. Please stay here." Rana said.
"Haan, Garimaji... then only my Babuji's soul will rest in peace." Arvind said.
"But, Arvindji..."
"I think she will listen to only Dadi's words...Dadi... you tell her to stay here..." Arnav asked Subhadra to say.
Subhadra gulped down.
"Stay with us Garima..." Subhadra said.
"See, Dadi also tell you... stay here, aunty." Arnav said.
"She will be with us...am I right Garima?" Ratna said.
Garima nodded ok and said,
"Only until the marriage..."
Ratna smiled delightedly.
"Let's go to the guest room" Ratna took them to the guest room.
Arnav followed them.
"Don't know how the fire accident happened." Arvind talked to himself and Subhadra left the place.
Ratna and Arnav settled them in the guest room.
"I will ask Aman to bring your laptop, aunty. You can work from here. Arnav said.
"Ok."
"How did you escape from the fired house?" Ratna asked.
Garima smiled looking at Arnav.
"They were not there last night," Arnav said.
"What does that mean? Do you know about the fire accident before itself?"
"No... I don't know but I guessed something may happen. So, I made them stay somewhere (he didn't say that they were staying in Aman's place not even to Ratna) I don't want Dadi to know about their whereabouts. So I made her believe that they are in Parvathy Nagar only."
Ratna thought something but she stayed silent because she doesn't want to talk about it, in front of Khushi and Garima.
"I will bring you something to eat." Ratna left the room hurriedly.
"Call me if you want anything," Arnav said.
Garima nodded ok.
Arnav saw Khushi standing near the door.
"Be careful... instead of calling me, don't call Subi baby as you are habituated calling her," Arnav said teasingly.
"I will do... definitely do...I can't be talking to her you know..." She countered back.
Arnav left the room smilingly.
Ratna came to Arnav and dragged him to his room.
"What Mom?"
"Chotte, Is Maji the reason for the fire accident?" she asked nervously.
"Might be..."
"Thank God..."
"Mom... I said might be... that means there is a chance to it."
"Don't you know it? Did she talk anything about it on phone?"
"She didn't talk anything on the phone about it."
"Then why do you doubt?"
"There was no chance for the fire accident to happen in that house that too in the mid-night."
"I don't think she could go to this extend, Chotte..."
"Don't be so innocent mom... just recall whatever she had done from the beginning"
Ratna sighed.
Subhadra was pacing in her room as Sumesh's phone was engaged. She was trying his number again and again. At that time, the land line rang. She rushed to it and attended it thinking that that call was from Sumesh. She got stuck, hearing
"Hey, Subhadra..." the voice sounded rude.
Subhadra understood who is talking. She gulped down.
"I never expected that you could stoop so low..." She gritted her teeth.
"What do you mean?"
"I know very well that you are the one who burnt Khushi's house..."
"No..." she shouted.
"Yes, it's you... just because you are shouting, the truth can't be changed."
"You are mistaken..."
"I know you... I will soon prove how dirty you are."
"You can't..."
"Oh, really? Subi... luck is not in your favor... You tried to finish Khushi's chapter by putting a full stop. But your grandson turned it into a comma by bringing her into your house. Fire...backfired... She is going to be with you. You both are under the same roof, darling... don't you dare do any stupidity. Or else you will get caught..."
Subhadra disconnected the call annoyingly. Khushi put the phone in her suit pocket and came to the kitchen. She saw Ratna pouring the milk in the glass and saw Khushi.
"Khushi... come..."
"For whom this milk is, aunty...?"
"For Maji, beta..."
"Shall I give it to her?"
"But..." Ratna hesitated. She doesn't want Khushi to go to Subhadra's room right now.
"Give it to me aunty I will give her." Taking the glass from Ratna's hand, she asked.
"Where is her room?"
Ratna thought something and said.
"First room on the upstairs..." she said contently.
Khushi came to the room and Subhadra was not there. She got in and kept the glass on the table.
"See... how lavishing this oldie is enjoying her life..."
She looked here and there and her eyes got glued on the photo hanging on the wall. Arnav was posing in it stylishly. She stood forgetting herself for a while in his smile.
"Look at his face... how haughtiness in his look...he thinks he is so handsome..." She said making a wired face.
She turned around and saw Arnav standing smiling at her. Khushi took very a few minutes to come to the composure.
"What did you say?"
"I said the truth..." She said with attitude.
"You will get to know the truth after our marriage..." he said running his eyes on her tip to toe.
"We are talking about something... why do you mean something?"
"What I mean?" he asked taking steps towards her.
"I know what you mean..." she said looking somewhere.
"Tell me what..."
"I understood that and I don't have to tell it to you."
"Really? That's nice, you understand... I don't have to teach anything to you..." he said in double meaning.
"Whose room is this?" She asked not giving importance to his words.
"Undoubtedly, mine..."
"Aunty said this is Dadi's room..." she pouted.
"Why do you go there?"
"To give this milk..."
"No need... you don't go..."
"Why?"
"Khushi, listens, this is not fun..."
"I know...she can d nothing..."
"Of course, but your presence may make her irritated and she may do something to cut you off"
"Won't she do that after our marriage?"
"Once we got married, it will be different... let the marriage happen... we will deal with her then."
"She will definitely try to stop the marriage no matter if I go to her room or not."
Arnav rolled his eyes and clutched her upper arms.
"Khushi try to understand... I don't want any problem to occur before marriage."
"Why are you scared?"
"It's because I'm not ready to lose you. We didn't expect the fire accident... fortunately you are safe. Don't underestimate her, Khushi... she is dangerously dangerous..."
Khushi was stunned, seeing him so attached. She uttered something unknowingly that Arnav didn't expect.
"When you are here to protect me, why would I get scared....?"
Arnav's grip on her arms loosened. His lips curved into a beautiful smile. He nodded YES.
Khushi left the room taking the milk glass, looking at his smiling face, again and again.

Subhadra was shouting at Sumesh.
"Don't you dare to come in front of me..."
"Maji... trust me... we were there in the Parvathy Nagar until the house got burnt completely. We had not seen anyone coming out of the house. I can't understand how they escaped from the fire."
"Stop giving excuses... they are alive and sitting at my house...."
