〘CHAPTER 10〙
Trembling as he held his phone, Dom sat at the edge of his bed, the glow of the screen casting a faint light across his anxious face.
He stared at the message he had rewritten for what felt like the hundredth time - each word weighed down by hesitation.
His thumb hovered uncertainly over the send button, heart pounding like a drum in his chest.
The words were all there - simple, straightforward yet loaded with everything he had been carrying in his heart for months.
"Hey Yuna, would you like to go out with me this weekend? I've been wanting to tell you something important... I planned something special - just the two of us".
He read it again.
And again.
Then he sighed, gripping the phone tighter.
"Come on, Dom! Don't be such a coward" He muttered to himself, running a hand through his messy hair "It's just a message, just a girl, just the girl you've been crushing on for almost forever".
He let out a shaky laugh, trying to ease the pressure building inside him.
All day, he'd danced around this moment - typing, deleting, drafting alternate versions, pretending to be brave while caving every time his finger got close to sending it.
He had imagined every outcome.
Rejection, confusion, laughter.
But what if she said yes? What if she felt the same?
He thought of her smile, how it made everything else blur when she looked at him.
He thought of the way her laugh made his chest ache - a beautiful kind of ache.
And that was enough.
"Be brave! Dom" He whispered, sucking in a deep breath "You've already planned everything, it will go smoothly, you just have to be confident".
With a final gulp, he clenched his eyes shut and pressed send.
Meanwhile, Yuna was curled up on the couch in her oversized hoodie, flipping through channels aimlessly, not really paying attention to the show playing.
Her mind kept drifting, mostly toward one person.
She had been meaning to talk to him lately, maybe ask him to hang out - just the two of them.
She had gone over how she might say it, even rehearsed in front of the mirror.
But she'd always chickened out.
She was mid thought when her phone buzzed on the armrest beside her, she glanced at the screen.
Message from Dom.
Her heart skipped, she sat up straighter, suddenly wide awake.
"What did he send me?" She whispered, tapping the notification with hesitant fingers.
When she read the message, her eyes widened, her cheeks flushed with heat.
From Dom🍘:
"Hey Yuna, would you like to go out with me this weekend? I've been wanting to tell you something important... I planned something special - just the two of us".
Her heart fluttered "Oh my god! He actually..." She breathed.
She couldn't stop smiling - a grin so wide it made her cheeks hurt.
With a nervous giggle, she buried her face in her hands, peeked at the message again to make sure she hadn't imagined it.
Yuna didn't hesitate this time, she texted back.
To Dom🍘:
"Sure, I'm excited~".
Then phone still in hand, she squealed into her pillow, cheeks burning "I can't believe he beat me to it!".
She whispered into the fabric, laughing softly "I was going to ask him out too...".
Her fingers traced the phone screen lovingly, the thought of seeing Dom that weekend made her heart feel light.
"No more hiding" She whispered "I'll tell him how I feel too! It's time".
Back in his room, Dom lay on his bed staring at the ceiling, his thoughts spinning.
The message was out - no going back now.
"What if she thinks I'm weird?" He muttered "What if she just says no to be polite? What if...".
His phone lit up.
He sat up in a panic, heart slamming into his ribs, he snatched the phone and opened her reply.
From Yuna🍊:
"Sure, I'm excited~".
Dom blinked.
Once, twice.
He read it again.
And then he jumped to his feet, fists clenched with joy "YESS!!!" He screamed, spinning in a circle.
He grabbed his dog - Jordan and hugged him tightly, nearly squishing the poor creature in his excitement "She said yes, Jordan! She actually said yes!".
The little dog gave a half hearted bark, his tail wagging lazily.
Dom collapsed back onto the bed, laughing, kicking his legs like a little kid.
He felt like he was flying, the date he had planned felt even more magical now.
"If this goes well... I won't be single anymore" He whispered in awe "I'll be with Yuna, I'll finally be with her".
For the first time in ages, he felt like the world was finally moving in his favor.
And in that happy moment, Yuna looked up at her ceiling with the same smile on her face, her heart whispering "It's really happening".
The two of them, lying in their separate rooms, didn't know it yet.
But something beautiful had just begun.

The night air was cool and soothing as Shelly stepped out onto the porch, her feet grazing the wooden steps with quiet care.
She spotted Jay standing by the railing, his back to her, his posture stiff, shoulders slightly hunched as he gazed up at the stars.
The distant flicker of the night sky seemed to mirror the tension she could sense in him.
She approached him quietly, her steps soft like a whisper.
As she drew closer, she smiled to herself, her heart heavy with concern but determined to lighten the mood.
With a gentle movement, she covered his eyes with her hands from behind, the coolness of her palms surprising him.
"Guess who?~" She teased in a playful voice, hoping to coax a smile from him.
Jay's lips curled into a small smile, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. He reached up and held her hands lightly, his voice low but affectionate.
"My girlfriend" He said softly but tired.
Shelly let out a quiet laugh, her heart lightening a little but she could still sense the weight on his mind.
She pulled her hands away, turning to face him as she held out a lollipop with a gentle smile.
"That's right~" She said gently, her voice soft and teasing "And your reward is a lollipop".
Jay took the candy with a faint, appreciative smile, his fingers brushing against hers for a moment.
"Thank you" He whispered, his gaze lowering as if he wasn't quite ready to look her in the eyes.
They both stood side by side, the soft breeze tousling their hair and bringing with it the cool, calming scent of the night.
Shelly felt the quiet pull of the universe around them, the sky filled with stars and for a moment, everything felt peaceful, if just for a brief moment.
Shelly glanced at him, her voice gentle but concerned "So... why did you come out here tonight? It's late... did you sneak out again?".
Jay let out a soft, almost shy sigh, taking the lollipop out of his mouth and giving her a small nod.
"Yeah... I couldn't sleep" He admitted quietly "Sorry for calling you out here, I just wanted to be with you".
Shelly's expression softened, her concern deepening but she stayed quiet for a moment, letting him gather his thoughts.
After a beat, she asked gently "Jay... is something bothering you?".
He didn't answer right away, his eyes still focused on the candy in his hands, his fingers turning it slowly.
The silence between them was heavy but Shelly didn't push him to speak.
She waited, her heart quietly aching for him, giving him the space he needed.
Finally, he sighed, almost reluctantly and began to speak.
He told her about the argument with his mom, about how it felt like he couldn't live up to her expectations, how she was trying to make choices for him in a way that felt suffocating.
He didn't mention the part about his mom telling him to break up with her, he couldn't bring himself to say that out loud.
Shelly listened quietly, her eyes never leaving him as he spoke.
When he was finished, she placed a hand on his, her touch light and reassuring.
"Jay..." She said softly, her voice filled with understanding "She's your mom~ of course she's worried. Moms always worry, that's kind of their job".
Jay closed his eyes for a moment, the tension in his face softening just slightly.
"I know..." He whispered "But the way she says things... it's like she doesn't trust me to make my own choices. Like I'm still a little kid she needs to control".
Shelly gently squeezed his hand, her voice warm with compassion "Maybe she just doesn't know how to let you make those choice. It's hard for a parent to let go, especially when they're scared".
He looked at her, uncertainty flickering in his eyes but she saw the faint trace of hope in them too.
"You think I should talk to her?" He asked quietly.
"I think if she loves you and she does then she'll listen, maybe not right away but she'll hear you eventually" She reached up and gently touched his cheek "It might not be easy but I believe she'll try".
He studied her face for a long second, as if trying to memorize every detail.
Then slowly, he leaned in and pressed a kiss to her lips. It wasn't rushed or fiery - just a soft, tender promise that lingered longer than words ever could.
"Okay" He whispered against her lips "I'll try, thank you for being patient with me".
Shelly smiled back, a warmth in her chest as she leaned into him, resting her head gently on his shoulder.
"I'm always here for you~" She murmured.
Jay's arm wrapped around her, pulling her close as he rested his cheek against her hair.
For a while, they stood there together - silent, just listening to the wind rustle through the trees and the distant hum of the world around them.
It was peaceful, comforting like nothing else mattered in that moment except the two of them standing there.
Side by side.
And for the first time that night, Jay felt a little lighter, the weight on his heart just a little easier to bear.
