Waves Rose X Suzy

If it weren't for the ungodly amount of caffeine she'd consumed before she arrived at the station, Chaeyoung would've passed out on stage.

"We're on in 5!"

The waiting room buzzed continuously, stylists and staffs equally alike running up and down to prepare for the recording except now instead of being used to it, the noise drilled its way into her skull. Chaeyoung was currently sprawled out on one of the couches like a starfish, not giving a horse's shit about messing up her recently fixed hair or outfits anymore.

"Chaeng, you've been real weird since yesterday. You even messed up the choreo. What's going on?" Lisa plopped down on the spot just above her head with a bag of gummy worms.

Chaeyoung felt no physical strength (or patience) left with her to explain anything to anyone at the moment. She settled with, "I'm just tired, I guess. I need sleep."

It was true, she needed sleep. Or she was going to give nothing but a half assed performance later.

"Was it because of yesterday?"

Chaeyoung saw it coming. Lisa could confuse a racoon for a cat but the girl was strangely observant when it came to these things. Chaeyoung was just skeptic about ranting about her shitless love life to her best friend in a noisy waiting room.

"Yes and no," she visibly relaxed when Lisa began stroking her locks. "I'll tell you about it soon enough, I promise. Just........not now. I'm really tired."

Lisa nodded and hummed understandingly. Despite not giving her a verbal answer, Chaeyoung was aware of what she wanted to say. They laid there in the position for a couple more minutes, Chaeyoung mindlessly tracing lines on the ceiling while Lisa shifted her attention from her hair to the accessories attached to it.

"Chaeyoung?"

"Hmm?"

"I wish you'd tell us more of whatever you're going through, you know," Lisa paused to adjust an earring. "You're always facing things on your own and stressing over them alone. It's not fair for us and yourself, you know?"

Chaeyoung hummed again in response, even as her mind was actively taking in every word Lisa said. The said girl continued, "It's okay to let it out every once a while, you get me?"

"Yeah......," She stretched her syllables, feeling guilt anchor down in her heart.

"Promise."

"Seriously now, a pinky promise?" Chaeyoung and snickered in a good natured way at the other girl outstretched pinkie.

Lisa whined," Are you going to do it or nah?"

"God, you're such a child." She needed up complying anyways, hooking her little finger with that of Lisa's. Who was she to say no to that pouty face anyway? Chaeyoung felt the weight of the promise standing down on her, as trivial as it was.

Let it out.

And it seemed the God that she'd spent most of her teen years singing in the choir for had recognised her distress and decided to answer her prayers, because just as she was about to leave the waiting room for the broadcast recording, all geared and warmed up, her phone beeped with a new notification.

Chaeyoung, however couldn't care less at first. She'd waited in line with the other girls for their recording but then, the broadcast team ran into another technical problem (the 3rd one of the day, to be precise) and soon, they were back to loitering around in the waiting room once more. She picked up her phone eventually.

Suzy texted.

Her thumbs jumped into action as she pressed on the new notification. Chaeyoung felt a rush of excitement at the actual possibility of what her girlfriend might have texted her after over 2 weeks of complete silence.

hey

you're recording today, right?

can we meet after

the usual place?

Chaeyoung felt her nerves endings tingle as she giddily typed a reply. Lord knows how long it had been since she'd actually seen Suzy in flesh and Chaeyoung genuinely missed her girlfriend.

sure love ;)

i guess 7's ok?

She left her phone at that, the loud calls for broadcast preparations already ringing in her ears. She sluggishly dragged her feet out of the room soon after, still struggling to keep her eyes open and walk straight simultaneously. She couldn't wait for the day to be over.

Because by then, something had grown inside of her. A newfound vine of hope that she clung onto, no matter how tiny it  was she was going to hold onto it for the tiniest speck of hope that she could gather. That she was going to be okay. They were going to be okay.

Hopefully.

--------------------------------------------------------------

The streets were dead quiet for some reason and it wasn't even 8 in the evening. Chaeyoung scurried down the pavements clad in what might have been the darkest outfit she'd seen herself wear along with the mandatory mask and bucket cap.

She'd left her lens at home as they'd been irritating her eyes the whole day but Chaeyoung was soon going to regret it with how her glasses were fogging up from her own breath. It didn't help that it had drizzled earlier.

God, I hate directions.

Apparently, she'd been lost, circling around the same street thrice and Chaeyoung had to be reminded of how unfamiliar she'd become with the place. That happens when you haven't visited in months, she thought. If it hadn't been for the kind highway patrol pointing out that she had been spiralling, God knows how long Chaeyoung would've been circling in the same place like a fool.

She let out a relieved sigh as she caught a glimpse of the well lit cafe at the far end of the street. Fucking finally. Chaeyoung quickened her steps as her heartbeat matched her bounce in her feet. She pretty much barged into the building as her feet automatically carried her to the usual little corner that she and Suzy had anonymously claimed as theirs.

Chaeyoung could feel her pulse throb as she spotted a familiar head of red hair from behind. She walked hastily to where the woman was seated, eager and excited to finally see her girlfriend after weeks of staring at her photocard and wishing she would somehow magically pop out of the synthetic paper (yes, she had a Suzy photocard shrine in her room, what about it).

Chaeyoung sneaked up in the other woman with the goofiest grin on her face. Her insides squealed in excitement as she engulfed her girlfriend into a hug from behind.

Chaeyoung felt herself melt into a puddle when Suzy whipped her neck at her in surprise with the most adorable pair of eyes she'd seen and it took everything in her to not squeal at how soft her girlfriend looked.

"Hey, you." Her voice went by muffled as she smooched the side of Suzy's face.

Said woman only smiled faintly, Chaeyoung could barely feel her cheekbones being raised.

Chaeyoung rocked them back and forth from their position, her heart feeling full for the first time in a while. The angle was a little awkward, considering how Suzy was basically in a headlock and Chaeyoung was hunching her back to match her level. Not to mention there could be leeches taking pictures of them from the unused telephone post right by the window.

But Chaeyoung couldn't care less. She had her girlfriend in her arms finally, her face was squished close to hers and oh my god, describe a more blissful moment. Chaeyoung's willing to wait. They lived in a heteronormative society anyway.

"Chaeyoung?" Suzy spoke up after after a minute of swaying.

"Yeah?" came the muffled reply from the crook of her neck.

"Let's talk."

The newfound joy of finally having Suzy in her arms filled her to the brim and for a moment, Chaeyoung missed the weight of the sentence that had just been spoken.

She promptly sat down on the seat opposite to Suzy's, eager to catch up on whatever she's been missing from her girlfriend's life since the past few weeks.

"I missed you." She reached for Suzy's hand across the table and intertwined them with hers. The older woman grinned back at her in the way that reminded Chaeyoung of a newborn bunny and grasped her hand tighter.

"I missed you too, you dork."

"Was it because of the hug?" Chaeyoung asked sheepishly.

"That and the smooch. You're literally the cheesiest, you know that?" Suzy teased her fondly, eyes crinkling into little crescents exactly how Chaeyoung loved and Chaeyoung was absolutely, completely smitten.

She was falling in love all over again.

"Nothing can ever top the balcony serenade, though," Suzy laughed softly. "The ukulele and the Elvis wig were the funniest thing I've seen this year after Gowon became XAE A-12's godmother."

"Actually, I had a Suzy appreciation banner planned out but Jennie told me she'd revoke my shelter rights if I went around carrying that."

Suzy guffawed in response, her head thrown back whilst clapping her hands like a seal. Chaeyoung could've sworn that it was the preetiest sound she'd heard and she's heard many things in her life as a musician.

Chaeyoung shook her head fondly and took a sip of her girlfriend's caramel macchiato. There was probably atleast 3 bags of sugar in it and twice as much as cream and it was such a Suzy thing to have such a hideous order. Chaeyoung could consume caramel macchiato until she got diabetes if she got to see Suzy up this close everyday.

"God, you have no idea how long I've been wanting to see you. We haven't talked to each other in forever! I knew you were busy with your shoot and everything and I shouldn't be so clingy but bottom line, I missed youuuuuuu," Chaeyoung rambled.

Suzy chuckled at her girlfriend's hyperness. She drew small figures with her thumb at the back of her hand and exhaled. "Yeah, about that, I wanted to talk to you."

"We have all the time in the world, babe," Chaeyoung's eyes basically drooped at this point, smitten, supporting her chin with her unoccupied palm.

"Listen," Suzy breathed. She averted her gaze to their enjoined hands. "Whatever I'm going to say, no matter what, just- hear me out first. And you know that I always love you, right?"

"Yeah.......?" Chaeyoung suddenly grew wary of the sudden shift in atmosphere. The mellow air was abruptly disturbed and was instead replaced by an oddly unsettling tension. Staring into Suzy's fidgety gaze, she started to get apprehensive of her girlfriend's odd behaviour.

"Babe, what's going on?"

"Chaeyoung?"

"Yeah?" Chaeyoung furrowed her brows. It was the second time Suzy had called by her name since she'd arrived.

Suzy rarely called her by her name. Something's off.

"Let's break up."
