29 How?
Part 29 How?
"Are you the same girl?" Arnav asked unbelievably.
Khushi nodded yes.
"But why didn't you meet me? If you had met me without playing hide and seek with me, everything might have changed." Arnav regretted.
"Maybe... but I was scared of rejection. I saw many girls behind you, and you didn't give any of them heed. That was why I didn't dare propose to you. I decided to create an expectation in your mind. So, you would like to meet me. After creating such an expectation in your mind, if I had come before you, I hoped you would like me. It's not because I'm beautiful...! I thought you would create an image in your mind about me, and I was confident I would be fixed in it. Don't I?" she asked hopefully.
Arnav nodded no.
"No?" she raised her eyebrows.
"I didn't expect the girl would be so beautiful and sincere in her love. My expectation was so much less than what you thought. I had never seen you in our college. How?"
"We were in different departments. I'm a criminology student. We were always in the field, with horses and guns..." She smiled.
"I see. Are you a criminology student?"
She nodded yes.
"Yeah, that's why your mind worked like a criminal..." he teased.
Khushi laughed.
"We can't catch the criminal if we don't think like a criminal. That's what criminology taught us."
This was why she got selected in CBI, Arnav supposed.
"By the way, how did Nandhini not find your real identity? Didn't you give your Aadhar card to her?" he asked the million-dollar question.
"Every detail of the CBI officer who is on a mission would be deleted from the main system. Their details would be kept secret. Likewise, my complete record was also removed from the department system. That's why she could not find anything about me."
"If it is so, how do you prove yourself a CBI officer?" he again raised a valid point.
"I have all copies of my record..."
"Oh... Does Aman know about you?"
"No... how could we let him know about us? After all, he is your friend..." she smirked.
Arnav didn't wonder if she knew who Aman was. They had his complete history.
"Aman doesn't know about us, but RAHUL... your inspector friend..."
"Rahul?" Arnav was dumbfounded.
"Did Rahul know about you?"
"Yes, he was the one who shared your and Aman's personal details with us. After all, he is a policeman. He was the one who told us about NK's sister's wedding, and Aman was going to attend it. So, we planned accordingly." She smiled.
Arnav sighed.
"And, your father is safe..."
Arnav jerked.
"Is he in your custody?" he asked hurriedly.
"Not in our custody but with us..." she corrected his sentence.
"What about Nandhini's men? They are so dangerous. How did you tackle them? My father and I had a plan to defeat them..."
Cutting him off,
"With the help of sleeping doze... right?"
Arnav was about to ask her, 'How do you know?' He stopped. Because Rahul was the one who provided him with the sleeping dose. He gave it to his father and asked him to start providing them with food and coffee. So that they would mix the sleeping dose into their food at the right time and escape.
He rolled his eyes.
"Yes, we used the sleeping dose to arrest them. That's why no one knew about their removal. We did that at night, after your neighbour slept."
"But how do you do that?"
"Through your father..."
"Through my father?"
"Yes, you planned to save your father by making them sleep. We did the same..."
"But how did my father help you?"
"He didn't help us... I sent a message from your phone and asked him to mix the sleeping dose in the dinner. He thought the message was from you and implemented it. Our men went there and took your father with them."
"But Rahul didn't say anything to us when we searched for my father."
"It's because he didn't know about your father. We got his help. It doesn't mean we would share everything with him."
Arnav wondered.
"Now, are all your doubts cleared?" she asked smilingly.
"I appreciate your guts. But what if something had gone wrong? What if your plan backfired? I might have been wild and barbaric... Nandhini would have been worse than what you expected... what would you have done?"
"I would have killed you..." she said simply without any expression on her face.
Arnav looked at her in shock.
"Whaat?"
"Then what? Nandhini is a lesbian. She brought a girl for you. Still, if you hadn't considered it, why should you be alive?"
"So, you came with the plan to kill me?" Arnav smiled.
"What do you think?" she folded her hands.
"Would you have lived happily after killing me?"
"I wouldn't have been alive after killing you," came from her without a delay.
"What? Have you gone mad?" Arnav chided her.
"Yeah, I'm mad about you. Can't you understand that after knowing what I did for you? I took a risk to death, yaar..."
"Why?" his voice softened.
She shrugged her shoulders.
"I don't know. I really don't know what attracted me to you. I tried to get the answer many times, but I just couldn't. At the same time, I couldn't forget you either."
Arnav looked at her for a few seconds, adoringly and smiled. He extended his hands towards her. She kept her palm on his. He pulled her close to him and circled her waist. In no time, Khushi leaned on his shoulder, wrapping him around. They stayed for a while.
"What about Nandhini? Would your department have arrested her?" Arnav asked.
"I think so..." she said, leaning on his shoulder.
.....
In the meantime,
The police surrounded Nandhini's bungalow. In fact, they reached there long ago, even before Khushi escaped. They waited there for Nandhini's move. As they had expected, a helicopter came towards the bungalow over the Yamuna River. The CBI officers waited there without reacting. The helicopter landed on the terrace of the bungalow.
Nandhini and Natasha rushed to the helicopter with the bags, which contained the needed things, including important documents. She tried to get into the helicopter but took a step back, seeing a few men jump from the helicopter with guns. She was taken aback.
"You are under arrest, Ms Nandhi and Natasha..." the old man in the team said.
"What charge?" Nandhini asked as if she knew nothing.
"We have evidence to prove you guilty. Get in..." He gestured for her to get inside the helicopter.
"Why should I get into it? I will not come with you. What if you kill me?" She argued.
"If we want to kill you, we can even do that right away. Why should we bring a helicopter? Our force surrounded your bungalow already. We just waited for the documents in your hand," he said sarcastically.
At the same time, they heard a gunshot sound, which made Nandhini and Natasha jerk. Nandhini heard his men shouting. Nandhini looked at Natasha miserably.
"Do you hear? Your men are OUT." He said.
"Listen, I will give you a hundred crores... let us go..."
The man raised his brows.
"Will you give me a hundred crores?"
"Yes... You will get it in hot cash. No one knows... live your life lavishly."
"Ok, get into the helicopter. I will drop you somewhere safely. You will be under my control until I get money."
"Ok..."
Nandhini and Natasha got into the helicopter with the old man's crew.
The helicopter started. It fled over the Yamuna River. In no time, it blasted into pieces.
To be continued...
