6 Perplexed Khushi
Part 6 Perplexed Khushi
Nandhini saw Arnav coming swaying as usual. Before he saw Khushi, she looked at Aman and said,
"Take her inside. Arnav is coming. Quick..."
Aman held Khushi's hand and dragged her inside. Without understanding anything, she ran with him. Aman took her inside, but he didn't take her aloof because he wanted to see what was happening there. He didn't believe when Nandhini said Arnav started drinking alcohol.
Arnav was confused, not finding Aman and the girl there. Where were they? He understood Nandhini would have sent them inside. Yet, he was not ready to leave it. He came to Nandhini and asked,
"Why are you standing here? What are you doing here?" he asked as if he didn't see Khushi and Aman.
Nandhini looked at him like, What question was this?"
"Go and search for a girl for me... I will give you one day. If you don't bring a girl to me, I will dive into the Yamuna river after writing a letter that you are the reason for my death."
"Tonight, a girl will be in your room..."
"I won't accept a one-night stand..."
"No, she will be the one forever..."
"That will be right for you because I'm a one-woman man... but you didn't understand that. If you had understood that, you would not have missed the chance to be the one. Any woman would feel great to be one..."
Aman looked at Khushi, who was confused. Didn't Nandhini say she was a heart patient? Then, why was her husband talking like this? Didn't he know she was a heart patient? She smiled at Aman awkwardly. She didn't know if she could ask him about it.
"Arnav, please go to your room. Stop drinking alcohol." Nandhini said.
"Why? Do you feel insulted to say I'm your husband? Why don't you let me go if you feel so?"
Nandhini looked in the direction Aman had taken Khushi. She huffed in relief, not seeing her there. But she didn't know she was there, only standing behind a wall, listening to them.
Nandhini made sure that Khushi left. She carried her guards and ordered them to take him to his room. They took Arnav to his room.
"Lawyer Bhaiya, who is he?" She asked to confirm if he was really Nandhini's husband.
"He is Arnav. Nandhini's husband."
"But she said she is a heart patient. Doesn't he know that?"
Aman didn't know what to say. He nodded without choice.
"Yes, Nandhini didn't tell him. That's why he is angry with her."
"I feel bad for both of them," Khushi said.
"By the way, Khushi, did you notice my conversation with Nandhini?" He diverted the topic.
She nodded.
"I gave five lakhs to your uncle."
She nodded.
"But, Nandhini said, she gave ten lakhs..."
She again nodded.
"Didn't you think of asking me about it?"
"Five lakhs or term lakhs, however, it doesn't belong to me. Then why should I bother about it?"
Aman felt bad about her. What a life she had leading! The primary source of the money was HER! But she had no right to the money.
"I deposited five lakhs in your name. I know your uncle will not give you a penny. That's why I didn't tell him about the real amount. You have five lakhs in your name. This is your bank passbook." He removed it from his coat pocket and gave it to her. "
Without talking about it,
"You said I will be with HIM for the whole life. Then, why do I need money?"
"It doesn't matter. This is your money. Keep it for you. It will help you in the critical time."
"Keep it with you, sir. I will get it from you if I need it."
Aman sighed and kept it in his coat pocket.
That was when Aman got a call from Nandhini. As Aman put it in the vibration mode when he entered the premises.
"Let's go..."
He headed to the main hall, and Khushi followed him.
Nandhini smiled at her.
"Why did you send me away from you, Didi?" Khushi asked.
"For a purpose..."
"Oh..."
Nandhini looked at Aman and said,
"You can leave. I will take care of her."
Aman nodded and looked at Khushi.
"I'm leaving, Khushi. Take care..."
She nodded. Aman left the place. Nandhini smiled at her. She gestured to her guard something. He nodded and brought someone. Khushi looked at the woman. The woman bowed before Nandhini.
Nandhini said something in sign language. She nodded and said,
"Jee..."
"Khushi, she is Durga. She is dumb. You will be sharing a room with her only. You can ask her anything you want. I already instructed her about you. Just follow her comments."
Khushi nodded.
"Durga, take her..." Nandhini said, not to Durga, but to Khushi.
Durga took Khushi with her. They came to a room that was at the end of the long corridor. There were a few more rooms. All the rooms were occupied by the servants.
It was a 10*10 room. There were two single cots with two lockers.
Durga showed the empty locker and gestured for her to keep her stuff in it. Khushi kept her bag in the locker. Durga said something through sign language, but Khushi couldn't understand it; she understood that she was trying to make her comfortable.
Night
Durga asked Khushi to take a bath. Khushi did. She asked her to make herself up. Khushi asked her why. Durga tried to make her understand. Khushi widened her eyes as she understood what she said. She was going to go to Nandhini's husband's room. That meant it was her first night. Her hands started shivering. She didn't know what was going to happen to her. Without a marriage, without a mangal sutra, she had to sleep with someone and give birth to his child. She could not claim the child as hers. She felt like choking.
Khushi thought about her parents. If they had been alive, she would not have faced the terrible situation in her life. How essential parents were for a girl! Yet, she was a little lucky to meet Aman Bhaiya. Otherwise, her condition would have been worse. She would have been with various men every day. Thankfully, she didn't lead such a loathsome life. It was much better to live for one man. She consoled herself.
Durga asked if she was ready. Khushi nodded.
"Do you have virmillion?' Khushi asked, gesturing.
Durga nodded and took it from her locker. She gave it to her and gestured something. Khushi understood that she had brought it from a temple. She smiled. Taking a small piece of paper, she folded the virmillion in it. She pretended to keep it in the locker, but kept it inside her blouse.
Durga took her to Arnav's room. Khushi went with her heart full of fear. She headed to Arnav's room. Nandhini was waiting in the main hall. She saw Khushi coming with Durga. Khushi hesitated to see her face. After all, she was the wife of the man with whom she was going to share a bed.
When Khushi came close to Nandhini, she saw wetness in her cheek. It was clear that Nandhini cried. Khushi looked at her miserably.
"I'm sorry, Didi... Because of me, you cried."
"It's ok... It's all my fate. Go and behave yourself. God bless you."
Khushi felt bad for her. That was when Arnav came there swaying. Nandhini wanted to bang her head on the wall. She didn't know what she would do with him. Khushi hid behind Nandhini in fear.
"Where is she? Why didn't you send her to me yet?" He shouted.
His eyes fell on Khushi.
"Oh... Is she?"
Khushi pulled her head down and hid behind Nandhini.
"Come..." He pushed Nandhini away and clutched Khushi's hand.
He pulled her with him. Khushi looked at Nandhini miserably. As she didn't walk with him, he lifted her on his shoulder and headed to his room, swaying. Nandhini stood looking at them. When he entered his room and closed the door behind him, Nandhini huffed in relief and went to her room.
Arnav put Khushi down and stood, folding his hands with a sharp gaze. Khushi was perplexed, seeing him standing steadily.
"What's your name?" He asked sternly, making her dumbfounded.
To be continued...
