Part 18 Receiving
Arnav's car entered the RM premises. Khushi felt a kind of nervousness. She agreed to go to his house readily when he invited her. She didn't know what he told his mother about her. Though she had already met them, that meeting was unexpected. But this meeting would be different.
Arnav stopped the car and got out. He opened the door for Khushi, who was still sitting in the car.
"Don't you want to get down?" he smiled.
She gulped, looking at the house.
"Come..."
She got out and stood hesitatingly.
"Let's go..."
Arnav walked, and Khushi followed him with slow steps. Arnav was about to hit the calling bell button, but she stopped him. Arnav looked at her questioningly.
"I'm nervous."
"Why?" he chuckled.
She was stuck. What did she say? What reason could she give? She nodded her head from left to right. Arnav rang the bell. Khushi closed her eyes and prayed to God. The door was open. Ratna smiled at Khushi.
"Khushi... you here?" she asked excitedly.
Khushi smiled.
"Did you come alone?" Ratna asked.
Khushi pointed at her right side and looked there, but Arnav was not there. She was horrified. Where did he go? What would she tell Ratna now?
"Chotte, did you bring her?" Ratna asked.
Khushi looked around, but she could not see Arnav there. Arnav stood up, tying his shoelaces. Khushi huffed in relief, and Arnav smiled inwardly.
"Yes, Mom, I brought her," Arnav smiled.
Khushi looked at him, embarrassed. Didn't he tell his mother about her arrival?
"Come..."
Khushi entered.
"How are your parents, Khushi?" Ratna asked.
"They are fine, aunty."
"I thought you would come here with your parents, all together..."
Khushi looked at Arnav awkwardly.
"Mom, she wanted to visit our house. So, I brought her..."
"Is it?" Ratna asked.
Khushi smiled, embarrassed.
"I would have prepared something if I had known you would come..." Ratna said, feeling sad.
"Mom, enough of playing... she would think I didn't tell you about her arrival," Arnav said, smiling.
"You played with her like you were tying your shoelaces and made her think you were gone... likewise, I also played..."
Khushi dropped her jaw. Were they playing with her?
Arnav and Ratna laughed, seeing her expression. Khushi pouted.
"Ok, ok, take your seat. I will just come..." Ratna went to the kitchen.
"Did you play with me?" She asked Arnav.
He nodded, pressing his lips.
"You think I vanished... didn't you?" he smiled.
"Good welcoming..." she turned her face, pouting.
She saw Ratna coming with a tray. She kept it in front of her. The tray was full of sweets. Khushi looked at her, awestruck.
"Mom, are you going to make her diabetic?" Arnav asked.
"Why would she become a diabetic? A young girl like her should eat everything. In fact, this is the age to eat anything..."
"I don't think so. She would have been on a diet to maintain her figure, I suppose. Am I right, Khushi?" Arnav asked.
She nodded no.
"Really?"
'I don't keep diet control. I can't... I eat everything..." she smiled.
"That's my girl... this guy is opposite. He eats concisely..."
Khushi took a sweet and had it.
"It's all mom's preparation," Arnav said.
"Is it, aunty?" she asked surprisingly.
Ratna nodded.
"Wow... it tastes so good..." she stuffed the next one.
"Don't eat more, Khushi. My mom is ready to stuff more on you..." Arnav warned.
She looked at Ratna, widening her eyes.
"He is talking about breakfast and lunch," Ratna said.
"I eat everything but not much..." Khushi said.
"No problem... You can just taste..." Arnav said.
"By the way, how did you guys become friends? When we met in the temple, you guys didn't look so comfortable with each other like you are now..."
Arnav smiled at Khushi.
"We became CLOSE after the temple meeting..." he said.
"Is it?"
Khushi nodded.
That was when they heard,
"Welcome... welcome..."
Khushi smiled at Arvind, who was in a casual dress.
"We have been waiting for you since morning..." Arvind said.
"Are you waiting for me?" She asked, perplexed.
"Haan, Chotte said you are coming today. So, I cancelled my schedule and stayed home."
Khushi was stunned. Did he stay home just for her? It was unbelievable for her.
That was when she heard the calling bell sound. Ratna was about to go, but Arvind stopped her.
"Wait. I will go..." He sent to open the door.
Khushi saw Anjali and Shyam coming.
"Hi, Khushi, when did you come?" Anjali asked.
"Just now..."
"Mom, what did you prepare for Khushi?" Anjali asked.
"Look at the plate in front of her..." Shyam countered.
"This is just a trailer...I'm asking about the main picture..." Anjali laughed.
"Then what? Is it a simple thing to have Ms Gupta at our place or what?" Arvind asked, smilingly.
Khushi was suffocated.
"When is your birthday, Khushi?" Anjali asked.
"17th September..." Arnav said.
"Oh... shall we expect your invitation?" Anjali asked.
"What question are you asking? She is here to invite us only. Am I right, Khushi?" Ratna asked.
Before Khushi answered, Arnav did.
"Of course, she will invite you, but she is here not just to invite you but to get comfortable with you."
Khushi was stuck. She didn't know what he meant by comfortable. In fact, she was there only for Arnav. But she liked the way they treated her.
"Let's have breakfast..." Ratna said.
Arnav stood up and gestured for Khushi to join him. She too stood up and followed Arnav. She stopped seeing a beautiful painting on the wall.
"Wow... this painting..."
Cutting her off,
"Ravi Varma's painting..." Arnav said.
"I like paintings..." She smiled brightly.
"Is it?"
"Yeah, I have a few great collections."
"That's great... we will discuss it later. Now, come and eat..." he took her to the dining table.
On the other side,
Rajesh Malik was driving the car towards the Airport to drop off his mother. She was going to Malaysia for a deal.
"Thanks, Mom..." Rajesh smiled.
"I don't want your verbal thanks. I want the deal... I want you to prove yourself."
"Sure, Mom. I have already built the strong foundation to get it..."
"That's my boy..."
Rajesh smiled.
That was when Amrita got a call. She attended it.
"Whaaat? Oh, God..." she sighed and disconnected the call.
"What happened, Mom?"
"The conference is postponed..."
"Oh... what's now?"
"Take a U-turn and go back home."
Rajesh nodded and took a U-turn and headed to the Malik residence.
"Mom, I would like to buy the best gift for Khushi for her birthday."
"What do you want to give her?"
"I don't know what to give her..."
"What kind of man are you! It's your wife's birthday, and you haven't decided on the gift yet... too bad..."
"What about a diamond jewellery set?"
"Do you think she doesn't have one?"
"Of course, she would have, but girls like jewels no matter how much they have already..."
"Not every girl comes into that list. Come out of the jewellery stuff and think about something special and great."
"Special and great? What's that?"
"Who is going to marry her? You or me?" She asked teasingly.
Rajesh grinned.
"Think better..."
Rajesh nodded ok.
Rajesh stopped the car, and a servant rushed to take the luggage. Amrita walked majestically with Rajesh. They saw the living room was silent.
"Where are others?" Amrita asked in a low tone.
Rajesh was about to answer her, but she stopped him and gestured not to talk. Rajesh looked in the direction, and his blood froze seeing his father and Roshini hugging each other.
To be continued...
