Chapter 5
After "that thing" moved away,the room fell in heavy silence again.From the ceiling,the strange liquid dripped down the floor.Liu Feng decided to turn on the lights but Ning told him not to turn on the lights during this time.
-"Don't turn on the lights if you want to live..."-Ning warned.
-"B-But why...?"-Liu Feng asked in confusion.
-"I can't say it right now,when it's raining heavily,it's better not to turn on the lights"-Ning said.
-"Okay...? You actually locked the windows few hours ago so yeah..."-Liu Feng understood his actions.
After that, they couldn't sleep anymore so they decided to share the same bed,neither one of them cares about that now, they're in a dangerous situation.
(WARNING: The original Chinese author of the novel itself doesn't support homosexual or LGBTQ+,there's only one transgender character in 6th Blood Door.)
The next day morning.
-"Ning...check this out, what the hell is this? God...it's so fucking stinky!"-Liu Feng looks at a stain on the floor.
Ning kneel down and check what was it.
-"Fat of a corpse...,it usually leaks when a corpse is decaying heavily,it seems that-"
-"Alright! Alright! Stop,please! I...I understood..."-Liu Feng said.
-"What on earth happened on the third floor?"-Liu Feng thought to himself.
Suddenly,the silence was broken by a scream outside the hallway.
-"Let's go and see what's happening..."-Ning said.
-"What happened?"-Ning ask the other people, they're standing outside the girl in the pink top's room, they're trembling.
-"W-wait...you wouldn't like to see the scene inside that room"-The man in the blue shirt warned,his voice trembling.
Ning nodded and then entered the room.The room was a mess,blood splattered everywhere and the girl's body lying and motionless on the bed,her eyes are opened but lacks of life,her organs were gone.
-"She's dead..."-Ning said with a calm tone.
-"Holy sh...,this is so fucking creepy!"-Liu Feng said.
-"Wait...there is something wrong..."-Ning said and then ran outside the halls.
No one wanted to stay on the second floor for any longer,decided to follow Ning to the first floor.
-"Hey,dude,what are you doing in the kitchen?"-Liu Feng asked.
-"A set has gone missing..."-Ning replied.
-"A set of what?"-The man in the blue shirt asked.
-"A set of a steak knife and a fork"-Ning replied.
-"What does this have to do with anything?"
-"The wounds on that girl's corpse was caused by them (the set of knife and fork)"-Ning explained.
Everyone was shocked but Ning doesn't say anything,looking at the 2 girls
-"Did you hear anything from her room?"-Ning ask the girls.
-"No,we didn't,we were fast asleep..."-the girl in the blue top said.
-"I heard the sounds of metal screeching last night"-The man in the white shirt replied.
Everyone went speechless, Ning tells Liu Feng to make soup.
-"Liu Feng,you go make soup,remember to add more meat, I'll go check the old woman..."-Ning said.
-"What about us?"
-"You guys are coming with me"-Ning said.
As Ning and the other people enter the room,they stiffens as the set of knife and fork is on the table next to the bed,where the old woman is lying. The girl in the yellow sweater panicked and ran away.Ning come closer to the bed.
-"Fuck...Ning,are you insane?! That old hag was a murderer! She is probably not human"-The man in the blue shirt said.
Ning doesn't mind his warnings, he checked the set of knife and fork.
-"These things aren't just clean, they don't even have strange smells"-Ning thought to himself.
Ning leans closer to the old woman,whisper to her ears
-"Ma'am, perhaps you're alone here most of the time,right?"-Ning ask her.
-"Meat..........Not......"-The old woman said.
-"You're saying that the meat supplies were tasteless?"-Ning said
Liu Feng came with a bowl of soup.
-"Here,the soup has been cooled off..."-Liu Feng give the bowl to Ning.
-"Alright then..."
Ning feed the old woman with the soup,she still vomit all the meat out.She started repeating two words.
-"Meat......Not......Meat.....not....."
Ning leans his ear down near her mouth,this action of his was being considered as very risky by everyone. Because if this old woman was the killer who killed that girl last night,Ning's actions will be considered as suicide.Luckily,she didn't bite his ear off.However,this risky move has helped him get an important information.Ning thought to himself.
-"The meat weren't done, the third word wasn't "taste",it was "done"...But why...why the meat weren't done then?"
-"No...it were done,the meat must have been done"
Ning turns back,gazing at Liu Feng with a sharp stare.
-"Liu Feng,go and make a bowl of soup with no meat.Now."-Ning said.
Liu Feng was confused but follow his command, immediately went downstairs and make a bowl of soup.
A few minutes later.
-"Okay bro,here is another bowl of soup"-Liu Feng give the new bowl of soup to Ning.
Ning feed the old woman again...
Surprisingly, the old woman ate up the entire bowl of soup, didn't vomit again this time.
-"What the hell? When she eats the meat soup,she will vomit all the meat out but when she eats the normal soup,she didn't vomit,even a bit"-Liu Feng was very confused with the situation.
Ning left the room,Liu Feng catch up with him.
-"Hey, dude! What the hell was that situation?"-Liu Feng asked.
-"It's complicated,I'll tell you later..."-Ning replied.
-"Wait... where's that young girl in sweater?"-Ning asked.
Everyone realized that she was too panicked and ran away.
-"Hey! Where are you?! It's dining time!"-Liu Feng calls out but no response.
-"Let's go downstairs..."-Ning said.
-"We don't have to look for her,she escaped outside..."-Ning said, looking at the opened entrance.
At this moment,they remembers back the overweight guy that jumped out of the bus and then died in a gruesome way. Liu Feng thought to himself.
-"Our task was to take care that old woman,if we leave the villa,what will happen?"
"Bro? What are you looking for?"-Liu Feng asked,seeing Ning check the shoe rack.
-"No shoes for men..."-Ning said.
-"Wait..."-Liu Feng feels something wrong.
-"The owner of this villa said that her husband has gone working,but there's basically no shoes for men in this villa..."
-"Wait...so that means-"
-"There are two possibilities...First,her husband has left this place for some unknown reasons.Second,..."-Ning thought for a moment.
-"Bro, what is it? I'm curious"-Liu Feng asked.
-"....She doesn't have a husband..."-Ning said.
Liu Feng stiffens at Ning's theory.
-"She...she doesn't have a husband?!"-Liu Feng ask in deep confusion and awe.
-"But... that doesn't make any sense,did you forget that she had a daughter?"-Liu Feng ask.
-"Since when you thought that girl was her daughter? Just because she held her hands?"-Ning explains.
-"...That does make sense now, there is no evidence whatsoever to prove that girl was her daughter."-Liu Feng thought to himself.
Then,Ninh take a look outside,he felt a chill ran down his spine,as if something horrible is watching him from afar.Ning closed the doors and went back to the living room.After just one day,two girls has gone,now there's only five people remain.
-"Hey,what did that old hag said earlier?"-The guy in the blue shirt asked Ning.
-"It was inaudible... However, you guys has been fooled, that old woman didn't want to say "The meat wasn't done",she wanted to say something different..."-Ning said.
-"Who the hell cares about what she was saying,she was the killer and the set of knife and fork were used to kill that girl, perhaps she has eaten all her flesh..."-The man in the white suit said.
Liu Feng glance at Ning,who was deep in thoughts.
-"Hell,his calm expression always makes me feel relief"-Liu Feng thought.
-"Hey bro, do you have any ideas?"-Liu Feng ask Ning.
-"I have a theory,I need a person that have the guts to go with me tonight..."-Ning said.
Everyone remembered the disturbing things happened last night, immediately went silent.
-"Dude,why do I have to go with you tonight? Can we do it tomorrow?"-Liu Feng asked.
-"No."-Ning said.
Liu Feng wanted to reply but went speechless at his sterness but seeing the sharpness in his eyes.
-"Okay,I'll follow you"-Liu Feng replied.
After spit it out,he just wants to slap his mouth hard.
-"Fuck...Why can't I control this fucking mouth?!"-Liu Feng thought to himself.
-"Okay, you're coming with me tonight"-Ning said.
Suddenly,a scream can be heard from the second floor.
-"No! Please! No! Don't kill me please!"
When they go upstairs, they were surprised because the blood stains on the floor and the door has gone/disappeared as if nothing has happened.
-"Guys! Look!"-The girl in the blue shirt said.
A large streak of blood seeped out from under the door. Ning doesn't seem to be in fear,he approach the door.
-"Hey! Are you crazy?"-The man in the white suit asked.
Liu Feng follows Ning, everyone gathered all their bravado and then followed Ning.
After they went inside the room, the girl in the yellow sweater is being hanged,her organs went missing and it's even worse than the previous girl.
Ning noticed the window was opened but he remembered that that window was locked in this morning,it couldn't be opened no matter how strong the wind was, something has opened it to get inside...But,the window itself was designed to lock or unlock from inside the room.Ning has always keep an eye on the old woman's room and she didn't go out.
-"She couldn't open this window...While we're looking for this girl, no one could go upstairs and open it either...Then? Who opened it? Isn't that girl (the previous girl) died?"-Ning thought to himself.
Ning closed the window then approach the corpse.
-"The way they got murdered...it's the same...made by the same person.Was it the old woman?"-Ning thought but he remembered the words that the old woman said,he suddenly realized something.
-"Hey! Did you guys forget? The corpse of the previous girl has gone!"-The man in the white suit said.
Surprisingly,the corpse lying on the bed has gone,even the blood stains disappeared.
-"Okay...Now let's go back to the first floor..."-Ning said.
-"Wait! What about her? I mean her corpse..."
-"You don't have to worry about that...Someone will clean it up."-Ning replied.
-"Hey...who is that person?"
-"That thing..."-Ning said.
After a few hours,they were speechless,the fear has sank them all like a big wave.
"I'm going to prepare for dinner..."-Liu Feng said and went to the kitchen.
"I'll coming with him...During this period of time,I urge you guys to think twice before acting alone"-Ning said.
In the kitchen.
-"Ning... you're going upstairs (the third floor) tonight?"-Liu Feng asked.
-"Hah... you're smarter than you look,isn't it?"-Ning sarcasm.
-"Dude,I am confusing...Why we cannot go to the third floor in the morning? Why it must be at night? The third floor must be very dangerous,right?"-Liu Feng asked.
-"The third floor is obviously very dangerous, especially at day"-Ning remarks.
-"Wait...if you say so...it means "That thing" wasn't that old woman.It lives and rests in the third floor at day but it goes out at night for...food!?"-Liu Feng said.
-"Yes,the old woman was completely a normal person...she was used as a bait by "That thing".Besides,I have a bad feeling...but I can only prove it tonight..."-Ning said.
Ning was looking for a pack of meat in the refrigerator but he saw a strange piece of meat.
-"Liu Feng... Unzip this"-Ning said.
-"Bro,what the hell is this?"-Liu Feng asked.
Liu Feng unzip it...
-"Holy fuck..."-Liu Feng curses under his breath as he check the meat.The meat was weird and different from the others, like human's hair on legs.
-"Shit,shit,shit... isn't this thing human...human's flesh?!"-Liu Feng curses and then vomit after the realization.
-"I understand why did the old woman refuse to eat the meat.Before we came here, someone has fed her with this and this made her has a deep fear with meat.Besides, don't you feel something wrong?"-Ning said.
-"What? I...I don't understand..."-Liu Feng asked.
-"The old woman was completely paralyzed, but the window was reinforced with many metal plate,as if keeping her from escaping"-Ning said
-"Also,there is another thing wrong with this villa..."-Ning said.
-"W...What is it? I'm curious"-Liu Feng said.
-"Don't you realize that this family doesn't even have a single photograph?"-Ning said.
-"He is right...After many years,even if the wife and the husband divorced,there must be some pictures of their family remains.But in the first floor and the second floor,there is nothing affliated with the girl or the family.Why is it?"-Liu Feng thought to himself.
-"Also,I have...ugh, nevermind, I guess we will find the answer tonight,just prepare to make a meal for dinner."-Ning said.
-"This guy...even if it was the motionless skin of that overweight guy and the unexpected,horrific events after,he didn't express too much panic or overreacting, Ning always have that strange calmness,I've never seen this kind of mentality.Is he really a veterinarian in reality?"-Liu Feng thought to himself.
During the dinner time
-"Liu Feng,why you haven't eat yet?"-The man in the blue shirt asked.
The man noticed that Liu Feng just take a very small amount of rice for himself. Liu Feng haven't eaten anything from now on.
-"Um...I don't feel so good tonight,so yeah..."-Liu Feng lied.
Both Liu Feng and Ning have decided not to tell anyone about the "meat" packs in the refrigerator. Moreover, two people in their group has gone/died,if they confess this unacceptable truth,the others will only be panicked and it doesn't any valuable for their lives right now in this situation.
After everyone finished, they faced a new problem-Where the only one girl (the girl in blue top) left will sleep? She couldn't sleep alone.
-"I-I don't want to sleep alone!"-The girl said,her voice pleading.In this godforsaken place, sleeping alone would like a suicide act.
In this kind of situation where the line between life and death is very fragile,she doesn't care about sleeping in the same room with two men.
-"So tonight I and this guy next to me will sleep in the same bed and you'll sleep in the second bed,okay?"-The man in the white suit said.
-"If "that thing" hid in the shadows of the villa and wanted to kill more people,even if there was 100 people in same place,it would still useless against "it"-Ning thought to himself.
-"Okay,it's a bit late now, everyone should go take a rest.Also, check the doors and the windows and keep them locked.We've survived today and we can leave this place after three days"-Ning said.
After they have retreated back to their rooms, Ning turn off the lights.
When he is going to take a step ahead,he could hear the sound of the steel gate to the third floor opened and he could feel "someone" is standing right behind him
-"Sh*t...Am I going to die here? I need lights..."-Ning thought, trying to be calm.
As he reach for the light switch,he suddenly remembered the the strange letters he received.
"Do not lighting lamps when the wind blows;
do not lighting candles when it rains;
do not go upstairs during the day;
do not close your eyes at night."
-"Don't lighting lamps when the wind blows"-Ning repeated the message on his mind.
Ning took a deep breath and slowly take the steps forward,the "thing" behind him followed him.
Ning finally made it to the bedroom's door,when he looks back, that "thing" disappeared.
-"Was that just my hallucinations?"-Ning thought.
After he get inside the bedroom, Liu Feng asked him.
-"You okay,mate?"
-"Yes, I am..."-Ning replied.
Liu Feng moved closer to Ning, touch his arm to check if he was still alive.
-"Man, you're amazing! I thought you couldn't come back.But hey, was that...was that "thing" outside?"-Liu Feng praised Ninh but also ask him some questions.
-"Yes...it was..."-Ning said.
-"It didn't kill you?"-Liu Feng asked in confusion.
-"I guess...it cannot kill us freely...unless we activate the "death conditions""-Ning said.
-"So...Did you know what was the "death condition" ?"-Liu Feng asked.
-"Just a part...I told you earlier...but I don't know the exact number of "death conditions", perhaps only that "thing" knows..."
-"Now, we must investigate and get out of this place as fast as possible"-Ning said.
-"Investigate the truth... But that seem doesn't help much with our lives,right?"-Liu Feng asked.
-"The truth might reveal its' weakness.Do you remember what the mid aged man in that lodge told you?"-Ning asked.
Flashback:
-"The world behind the Blood Door, there is certainly more ways to survive,it may seems dangerous but it's not completely irresistible or inescapable."-The mid aged man.
-"Besides,that woman in the red dress (the owner of this villa) wasn't allowed anyone to go up to the third floor.There must be something important in the third floor..."-Ning said.
-"Okay...? So when do we go? I'm coming with ya, at least we die together, call it a "friendship", eh?"-Liu Feng asked playfully.
-"Don't rush, few more minutes..."-Ning said.
At midnight...
*metal grinding sounds*
-"Bro, that thing came out and it's looking for food...!"-Liu Feng said.
Ning is also feeling uncomfortable,he took a sip of tea.
-"Bro! How could you drink tea in this situation?"-Liu Feng asked in deep confusion about Ning's strange behavior.
-"I'm also stressed but everyone's intense reactions are always different...I always drink or eat something when I fall into this kind of situation..."-Ning said.
Suddenly, that "thing" has stopped at their door,both Liu Feng and Ning are trying to be silent.
After that "thing" have passed, Ning went to check the door carefully.After a moment, he opened the door.
-"Let's go now,come on..."-Ning said.
They both went to the third floor and the steel gate was opened...
-"Shit...this place is so fucking stinky!"-Liu Feng thought to himself and cover his nose.
They went to the third floor and it was like hell, the floor was covered in a stinky, decaying liquid.
They continued to walk,Liu Feng looks down the floor.
-"Fuck...how many bodies does it take to dispose this liquid on the floor...the entire floor...!"-Liu Feng thought to himself.
They finally made it to the first room, Mình opened the door and the scene inside was unimaginable.
-"Holy shit...so that liquid on the ceiling was from here...! But why are there so many corpses?! Was it-"-Liu Feng said
-"Perhaps... The absence of the civillians in this town have proven it... we're not the first ones here.There were many bedrooms downstairs with private bathroom for the nurses that came here..."-Ning said.
-"Bro...Can we go back now?...I-If that fucking "thing" come back, we're so dead!"-Liu Feng
-"Okay, big guy... Don't be afraid... We're almost near to the truth... aren't you curious? About that "thing" that consumed everyone in here?"-Ning said.
-"I see that you're not afraid of death...! Isn't your life more important than the truth?"-Ning said.
-"Do you seriously think you could get out of this villa? I certainly don't know if there was another "death conditions...I guess...since the first day we came here,we have already activate its' "death conditions",we were just lucky.Besides,it's looking for food downstairs,the more people died, the more dangerous the situation we're in..."-Ning said
-"Okay... I trust you this time..."-Liu Feng said.
They continued to explore the third floor,they stopped at a well cleaned room,there was no corpses' liquid or blood stains around the door as if it doesn't belong to this place.
-"The truth is here,let's go and check it out."-Ning said.
They opened the door,there was a skeleton inside the room,it seems that the skeleton was stuck in here for a very long time.
The size of the skeleton is matching to a 14-15 years old girl.
-"This girl wasn't being eaten, there weren't any fork or knife marks..."-Ning said.
-"If she wasn't being eaten,then how did she die?"-Liu Feng asked.
-"It's highly likely that she died from starvation,maybe that "thing" couldn't enter this room but that doesn't mean this girl can get out..."-Ning explained.
Ning raise his head,looking at the window.
-"Look, that window was also reinforced with steel planks,rusted. These planks must've been placed here for a very long time ago.Perhaps, when she was a child, her family was afraid that their daughter would accidentally jump over the window. But since something terrible happened to this villa,these planks have smashed all her hopes."
Liu Feng feel a chill ran down his spine and he is having a thoughtful look on his face now,he could imagine the absolute desperation and hopelessness of this girl.
-"Bro,look! There is a notebook behind the skeleton!"-Liu Feng pointing at the skeleton.
Ning took the notebook and read it:
1st June, 2037
Grandpa told mom that grandma won't make it and request mom to pay them a visit.Although mom was a grateful daughter to her own mother,she rejected the request without hesitation
9th June, 2037
She didn't go to work,she seems scared...but why?
12th June, 2037
The weather is rainy and I see mom crying. I asked mom why...She didn't say anything and then hugged me tightly and it was suffocating.
